i was talkin to my datsun friend, he has a '71 240Z with a 350, and he was tellin me about the ZR200, a Z31 chassis built in japan with an RB20DET. he explained that any RB series motor will fit in the Z31, so why not drop in an RB25 or 26 in a Z31 and make it haul ass with out a lot of fabbing?
any thoughts welcome.

Well the stock bottom end of the VG is said to be good to over 500hp, so it's not like there is a power advantage to swapping in an RB. Plus VG parts are a dime a dozen, so a few sacrifices can be made in the pursuit of power, where as with a semi exotic RB you have to be more conservative.

I am doing a RB20DET into a 71 240z. It is one of the guys in my Club. (Velocity Cali.) After talking to a couple of guys in Japan and Aus. they said we should get about 350hp out of it with simple upgrades. (Timing, fuel pressure, and Turbo off a RB25det)
So watch out for any 240z's running around in SOCAL..

Hey Grumpy, I might be getting my hands on a mid to late 70's 280Z and want to put a RB25DET in it if I get it. Is there alot of custom fab involved, and what are you using for fuel management? Are you going to the San Diego meet this weekend? I will be there so maybe we can talk then. Also how much would you sell me an RB25DET for if I can pick it up from your shop?

There is not alot of Fab. work as far as I can see. The car is coming in next week for the transplant.
We are using the stock ECU and stuff. Easier and cheaper for the owner. Plus, we talked to alot of guys in Aus. and they said it is really easy to tune and get good HP......
I'll be down there this weekend. I'll be driving a 240sx...... heheheheh no really.... I'll be there so we'll talk more later....
