ok i just did a full tune-up on my car to get it smoged and i think its running rich. i got new oil, oil filter, fuel filter, rotor, rotor cap, o2 sensor, plug wires and plugs. when i checked the old ones they all were like an ash grey color, thats normal if i remember right, right? i also did a compression check cause when it step on the gas i dont have much power and i blow black smoke, that and i go through like a quart of oil every 2 weeks or so. like i said, none of the plugs showed any oil fouling. the compression came back 175 175 165 165. anyone have any ideas at all??

Your inline engine temp sensor may be defective and reporting incorrectly. Any cels being thrown on the ECU? Also, do you have the Air Intake Temp sensor on your car? If so, check for blockage or test it. Sometimes the MAFs needs to be cleaned, but is rarely the problem. Also, if you still have all of your emissions equipment, verify that all vacuum hoses are good and not ripped or missing. One last thing that has caused lots of black smoke on the KA24E is the PCV valve being gunked up. Take it off (the intake manifold) and shake it after cleaning with some degreaser and it should freely move. otherwise, the excessive crankcase emissions will sludge up and rot your valve seals, allowing blow by but from the top instead of the rings. How is the O2 sensor doing and is your coolant a good color?
Those are good numbers BTW!

no CEL, band new O2 sensor. the coolant has a bit of rust in it. ill check the PCV tonight. i know there is a breather hose that goes to a black box on the block next to the alternator, should i check that too? i do have the air intake temp sensor so ill check that and the coolant temp sensor. when i checked the vacuum i fist just teed off the main line and it read 20, but when i just put the gauge on the nipple it read 55. would a vacuum leak cause it to run rich?

The hose should run from the black box up to the pcv valve in the opening on the intake runners. A vacuum leak could cause all sorts of problems. What main line are you talking about?

its near runner #4 and the fpr. from there it branches off to all the vacuum stuff. i know there are some up front on the plenum(sp?) but the dont have uch vacuum cause they are in front of the TB.
