T28 stock boost & Nismo ecu concerns

I searched and didn't find exactly what I was looking for.

I'm lookin at picking up a local car. What would a stock S14 T28 boost to with no boost control of any sorts? The ecu was replaced with a nismo unit and the car doesn't have a boost gauge. I'm worried the thing is boost spiking to who-the-hell-knows-what.

I know it's an internally gated turbo, but can't remember if the actuator acts by itself or needs some sort of outside control from like an MBC, elec. unit or the ecu.

Oh, and what do you guys think of nismo ecu's? The removed rev limiter and fuel cut makes me a bit apprehensive. Can it be remapped to have a fuel cut or some other aftermarket rev limiter for some more peace of mind? Is there a way to check the engine for any overrevving damage?

The wastegate actuator cotrols the boost...it should stay at 7 psi, unless its an adjustable aftermarket wastegate. As for the ECU...learn to shift no higher than 7k, or find somebody whos willing to take that ecu off ur hands and give u their stock one.

fliprayzin240sx – I’d rather have some form of rev limiter, especially with how easy it is to loose traction and hit the limiter in first gear. I couldn't remember if the actuator went back to stock boost or deactivates with no external control. Thanks!

s14 blacktop - Tell you what.. you find me a thread where someone is running a Nismo ecu, no other forms of boost control and discusses this very issue and then you can ride your high horse. I don’t know if I like the Nismo ecu or not -- that’s why I asked what others thought about it, asshole.
