ok how is a blower powered and how does it compress the air. what are the pros and cons and where is the power found when you put on a blower?

blowers are belt driven
pro is no lag
to change boost on blowers you change the pullies
cant really answer all your tech questions(sorry)

there has to be a difference though if not they wouldnt have diff. names just one more question... what can make more power Blower Vs. S/C?

im sure blower is just a redneck term for s/c.....

blowers and superchargers are the same thing
the blower is what was on the charger in the movie fast and furious.

oooo thtats what it is. Is there a difference between a blower and a supercharger in a maxima. Also do s/c have different boost levels liek a turbo or is it all one in the same.

no i believe the boost is set by the size of the little thingy that gets spun by the belt, but if i read that right it was sarcasm and your saying that a blower has control over how much boost it puts out....right? <img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/confused.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt='???'>

Yes..... the bigger the pulley the more boost it will turn out...

Actually, it would be more boost with a smaller pulley....

pro's:
belt driven
little lag
easy to install
con's
parisitic loss
boost may not always come at the right time (i.e. on a centrifugal blower, u may make 1 or 2 psi of boost at idle, but u wont make peak boost until say 5000 rpm, and unless your motor is matched with cams, intake, exhaust, ignition, fuel and pulleys, boost delivery will not be optimal)

Actually, not exactly true, one thing that is nice about the "supercharger" being either roots-style or centrifugal is that the power curve is so friggin' LINEAR! The more you mash the pedal, the more power is accumulated!
To speak VERY briefly on this subject, (for a change) The supercharger is JUST LIKE a turbo on the compressor side (shiny part) and works exactly the same- forcing air into the intake ports as quickly as possible. Now, that being said, again- you don't make power with a supercharger, OR a turbo, OR nitrous oxide! Those things are put in engines only to be able to increase the FUEL DELIVERY into the combustion chamber! Nothing else! The fuel is what burns, and the "forced induction" system only allows for more fuel to be used.
The only real drawback to the s/c (blower if you drive trucks-ack) is the parasitic loss of power created by turning the little shaft that runs the s/c. You have to USE power to MAKE power on the s/c setup. (You really wouldn't believe the drag on that pulley till you felt it for yourself-believe me)!
So, how does a "blower" work? (Centrifugal- like a turbo. Roots-style is different) Pulley on pulley-side of engine on a belt turns shaft across motor, gears in s/c that connect to shaft spin blades inside s/c. That creates more air to ADD MORE FUEL via ecu, injectors, fuel-pressure regulator, or a combo. of all-
And that's how you make more power! YEE HAW!!!!
Sorry about the lengthy post (DAMMIT! Why can't I have one-sentence replies! LOL)!
I hope that sheds some light!
PeaceOut! <img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/cool.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=''>

Im not saying your wrong, but on my old car. '89 Mr2 S/C I got bigger aftermarket pulleys to get more boost....
whats up with that. like i believe the one i bought was the HKS it was 12MM oversized.....
Check this out.... <a href="http://www.mr2sc.com/websites/tech/crank.htm" target="_blank">S/C Pulley Info For MR2.... (I know MR2 but still same idea!<img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=';)'></a>
Like i said im not saying ur wrong but i just don't see how a smaller pulley can create MORE boost when its doing less work...

smaller pulley on the supercharger = the blower spins faster creating more boost
larger pulley on the crank = the blower spins faster creating more boost

so we were both right just talking about different things.... <img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/hehe.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':hehe:'>

Yeah, I figured you were talking about the pulley on the S/C itself.
