Hi Guy's, I'm new to the forum so you will have to bare with me. I currently live in Canada and I'm looking to buy a s14 240. It seems like it will be way cheaper for me to buy one from the states and drive it back. The major question I have is there any place in the states that I should be aware of buying a 240? By this I mean in Canada we try to avoid buying cars from the east, because they use a crap load of salt on there roads in the winter which causes rust like crazy. Do you have the same problems out east? Also if anyone has a s14 240 they are looking to sell feel free to pm me. I'm looking very hard right now.

ahhh...since no one else is posting...personally, i would look for west coast car:
1. rarely will you find rust on a west coast car
2. ca emissions are more strict so if you look up carfax, there is a more consistent and accurate odometer trail. however there are still ample ways to mess with that, but better than some states that have only a few records.
but...
3. more expensive due to the hype
4. if you find one you like for a good price; better not beat around the bush and make the seller an offer. 240s go like freakin hot cakes...yes, hot cakes
5. in accordance to ^, also at the same time be patient and take your time...yes its contradicting, but its hard to explain. go with your gut feelings. youll feel it, mine was a POS, but i stuck with my gut feelings. and after a mere 2 months and minimal funding, it has totally transformed.
east coast, most likely has rust, inconsistent records, but are a lot cheaper than the west.

Do you not know how to car shop? It's not that hard. All I can say is have the money ready. So when you find the one your looking for you do not have to deal with trying to get the funds together before someone else takes it.
EDIT: Oh yeah, don't go dicking sellers around if you not a serious buyer, it’s just rude.

Are you sure they are cheaper here because they are EXPENSIVE. You arent forgetting about currency exchange are you....

Yeah they seem to be a lot cheaper, I have been checking out some on ebay and usually only go for around $5000 to $6000 which works out to about $6200 to $7200 Canadian. It seems like the ones I can find here in Canada all seem to be automatics and they start around $10000 Canadian. Our exchange rate right now kicks ass, it's about .83. All I can say is thankyou Bush :p

Check for rust regardless of how the car looks.

The Canadian currency seriously has been kicking our a$$ recently....
So much for my dreams of shipping a JDM Evo IV to Canada, driving it across the border, and registering it as a Mirage....
Maybe in a few years, lol.

Hey Lantin, I was just in your situation. I had been looking for a kouki S14 in Canada and they are really rare! I finally found a '97 aspen white 240 in Vancouver, it was an automatic, but the car was in great condition and only had 1 owner and no accidents so I had to buy!!! :D Don't expect to pay much less for a nice car down in the states. Remember you have to pay all the taxes on the car you bring back. I thought of bringing a 240 up from the states but the gain was minimal at best. Some site to check out would be canadatrader.com the Buy & sell site, and try some newspaper classifieds out of Calgary/Edmonton/Vancouver. That is how I found mine.

Thanks Kassroth, I'm think I'm going by the same advice SW20>>S14 was giving me. I have the money ready but i'm not going to jump into anything too quick ( Even though I want one VERY VERY Badly). Oh yeah sorry dude but I have to get a 5 speed. It's a must for me!
