View Full Version : pulling engine codes.... (be nice pls)
I'm probably gonna get banned for asking this...... :bash: but gonna ask anyway...
I looked up how to pull the engine codes but I can't seem to figure it out...
1. pulled the ecu out... (left the wireharness on)
2. found the screw to turn
3. turned the screw clockwise
4. turned the engine on
nothing happens no red leds blink nor does the check engine light....
i turned the ecu screw back to the orig position, and the check engine light is off now. (I know my prob may be gone for now... but I want to know if I am doing it right or if I have the wrong instructions...)

when you took you ecu out are the two led are lit ?
turn fully clockwise
wait till the leds flash 3 time
right after that turn fully counterclockwise and wait for the flashing
left is 10 , right is 1
if it flash 5 time left 5 time right its 55 you have no problem sir.
not that complicated
if you ecu led are not lit, you have a problem with you ecu.
so you don't look at the check engine light? I was waiting for the check engine light to flash.... (I guess I spend too much time working on my bronco...)
Thanks for the help... I'll look for it next time the check engine light comes on.
so in order to do this I don't have to turn on the engine? I was reading on the 240sx site that i had to enter phase 2 or something like that after i turn on the engine... really confusin...
i guess i am a dork :(

you can use the check engine light
but id rather use the leds on the ecu
so lemme double check this one last time... you don't turn on the engine right? or do you? (after our turn the screw back to the orig position)

check the LED on the ECU. You dont have to start the car, just leave the Key at ON without starting the car for all the process

to check codes:
0. access the ecu
1. key ignition to 'on' position (do not start the engine)
2. turn the ecu screw fully clockwise
3. wait 2 seconds
4. turn the screw fully counterclockwise
5. look at check engine light and count the blinks to pull codes
6. make sure the mode selector is fully counterclockwise when you want to actually drive your car again
at no point do you actually need to start the car to check these codes

there 5 mode on the Ecu you need the mode 3 to check the code that are thrown out by your ECU. This mode doesnt need the car to be running .. the code are stored in memory.

Just make sure you turn the key so all the accessories are on. Depending where the screw pointing to your CEL should be either blinking or completely turned off.
You start it to clear the code hopefully its gone. Then no CEL
