in a portfolio you put:
pictures of your car
maybe picture of yourself to if you want
mod sheet
information about yourself ie what you do
what shows/track events/drifting events/whatever you will be attending in the upcoming year
how many shows you've attended so far
any trophies or anything that you've won
stuff like that.

sponsorship is pretty ghey.
all of a sudden you HAVE to go to shows and put your car in. you have to do it so many times per year as well.
also, as is the case for most shops, they just give you a % discount off their prices, but very rarely will they give you rates that are actually below their cost on stuff. so if they have a 30% margin on gear they will give you a 30% discount or less...
you can get the same pricing or better on ebay or on forums.
the only way sponsoring is even close to being worth it is if you get the full "COMP" as is everything free.
even then you are under heavier obligation to show your car at every meet in your area.

and how do you help? :mepoke:
I just got a sponsorship from the local racing shop for my tracking needs. Now I plan to engage Yokohama Canada to sponsor me... But I mostly ask for anything that could help me get to the tracks.

There's such a thing as "terms to an agrement." First off a shop that gives you cost on stuff isnt sponsoring you , they are taking advantage of you. At the least they should pay for gas, transportation, and tires if you drift, and your wheels or paint if it's a show car. If they arent hooking you up you should ditch them.
I dont know of any shops that fake sponsor people but i know they're out there. And they are worthless. If you're good enough to be sponsored you should hold out and get your money's worth.

Just what Var said. If you want to be sponsored and approach companys, then you well just end up buying more parts, and putting stickers on your car.
If you are really worthy of being a sponsor driver . Then they will approach you after you win alot of races, or get alot of attention.
Also keep in mind, you dont need to win to get sponsored. Companys like falken are more concerned with consistancy, and dedication

Since I've been through this road. Heres a few tips.
Go out there and expect nothing but have fun and do some competition. I surely don't know what you are looking at of getting sponsored. Drifting, Karting or Road Racing.
Its always nice to have a nice clean proposal without having to read 5 pages of BS. Attend as much events as you can. Its always good to have on your proposal that you are a dedicated driver not all sponsors wants winner but a dedicated driver. Thats why we all work from bottom to the top with a help of a team i.e sponsor.
One last tip. You do not want to be like a fucking idiot that is asking stuff for free. You want put it down to the sponsors as a PROJECT PARTNER. If you sound or look like just another racer asking for a hand out its mostlikely ain't going to work.
Ok. One last tip. When doing a Bio its always good to have short bio of yourself. Where you work, what you do, years of drifting. Do not give too much details but have enough info on your bio. It sucks to read stupid bio forever about "HOW I STARTED".
Here is a lay out of one of my proposal. This is just something I used for small sponsorship. You want to show to small shops a proposal that is clean and not having to read some BS that I can hardly understand.

I can walk you through it line by line if you need me to.
Goodluck.

its good to live where all the companies are.. i.e. not some middle state with not that much action going on. Socal should be easy if you get your foot in the door (i.e. work at a reputible aftermarket company even if its the lowest position, you can use that to promote yourself).
I believe that anything that will lower your costs to go to the tracks is sponsorship...
I don't care wether it's freebies or lowered prices on parts/labor...

Sponserships arent worth it imo unless parts are free or significant discount but thats not usuall

Wether you are paying for there cost of the products that is still sponsorship. Its not some kind of sponsorship that I want but I would rather take what I can get.
Its taking some of their time to order stuff for you and go a mile for you. Don't listen to Var.
