I see that how everyone is running there intake to the drive side light housing. I was wondering why you just dont relocate your battey behine your passanger side seat or to the trunk/hatch. Then run the intake straight to the passanger side lighting and run with the droopy eye look. Just an idea.... what do you all think?

I was talking about that with my dad, but i'm not sure what materials i could make the intake out of? I'd have the filter come to right behind the aftermarket foglights.... underneath my license plate.... If that makes sense. I've definitely considered this before

Whats it take 2 relocate the battery anyways? I know it isn't hard but If I were to do it I would want it done right! Any idea?

Relocating the battery is easy. Just have to run the wire like doing a power cable for a stereo.... wire has to be BIG... like 0g. Also you can get a battery box that is pretty convinent. I can remember the company that makes its... its ment for like american cars cause thats all they make parts for... starts with an m..... mormo or mosmor... something cant remember.
Now with the staying on the passanger side will be easy... I plan on doing in the project in two weeks so I will take pics and post it on my site...

remember you have to stay at least 18in from the TB with the MAF or the readings get funny. Also if you want a battery holder check out your local boat dealer. All boats have battery holders like you speak of. Make sure you mandral bend your tubing if you have a custom intake made.

Yes, you can relocate your filter and shorten the intake tube and run it straight to the manifold. However, you have to consider all the other hoses that you'll have to run that have inlets and outlets on the far right side of the vehicle that are dependent on the intake system. Also, you may not get as much cold air since the air itself will travel such a short distance. If I were you, I would just leave it exactly where it is and take out the hadlight when racing for added cold air.

You can git a battery relocation kit from Summit Racing (http://www.summitracing.com). Just go to the website and type in this part number: SUM-G1200A, that's one fer $42.95 made for Summit, it's a complete kit, Black box, hold downs, wire and all. Or this number: SUM-G1199, that's the same kit but with a red box. Or type in this number: MOR-74050 that's a kit by MOROSO fer $91.95 then ya have ta git the wire seperate: MOR-74055 fer $99.95. It's a lot better kit, but it cost's a lot more too.

I used the cheap one in the trunk of my '55 Chevy and it works well. If yer gonna put it in the back seat or hatch, then ya might think about the Moroso one 'cause it "seals" shut where as the cheap one don't.

Also on the CAI question, I just modified my stock airbox and installed a K&N filter. http://www.all_bout_chris.homestead.com/files/240sxcai.jpg

It does the same thang and didn't cost much. All ya have ta do is remove the airbox, disconnect the "Y" pipe, git a length of flexible hose (I think mines 3" dia) stuff it inside the hole in the airbox where the "Y" pipe was, tape it onto the airbox and yer done with that. (all I had wuz silver duct tape, black would look better) Now the hard part....you must inlarge the hole in the fender well. First, remove the box that is attached under the fender well. Ya have to remove the inner fender panel ta git to it. (just sum screws) After that's out, make four cuts around the hole (kinda like an X or + with the hole being the center) and then bend the newly formed tabs down with a hammer. Make the hole big enough to fit the hose thru but not too big. Now you have CAI! You can run the hose over to the "mouth" of the car if you want a kind of "ram air" effect or just leave it inside the fender, behind the grille (under the turn signal) and it should do the same thang.

I also installed a K&N filter and could tell a big difference. Worth the money I think! ($50)

I hope that all this helps someone!

ahh, my top secret project had been discovered...

actually, i've see 1 person w/ it done, he used plastic pipe, i believe, and i've heard there's another guy done it w/ some kinda airecraft aluminum... yes the MAF has to be 18" away...

i've been working on this nonsense for 2 weeks now, i'll post my result, the thing is... my MAF if only 12" away... AHH... so we'll see what happens, but after a few tests, i was able to get the check engine light to go away, so that's good, now i'm just stuck drilling holes in a freaking metal tube... (believe me, pain in the ass all the way up)

i want to finish it by this saterday, since there's a meet i'm attending in san diego, i'll let you guys know wha's up

I'm just putting in a K&N and cutting apart my air box. It costs me $28 cheaper than all of you's, hahahaha.

SinceI live 45 minutes from Summit racing I'll just have to swing by there sometime. I want to move my battery to the trunk. If I decide to do this, I'll take pics and post! thanks all.

Yeah, I thought about doin that...but yer suckin in hot air. I figured that since the airbox wuz so big it would provide enough volume ta work well with the CAI and I'd git cold air, which is better.

Oh, btw, where did you git a K&N filter fer $22?!? I got mine at Advance Auto Parts and it wuz like $45 or so. Then I saw um in the Summit catalog fer like $35 or so.

I got my filter used off ebay. But with a million mile warranty and the fact that it was just cleaned, it's pretty much as good as new anyway.

It's a question of more restriction vs. hotter air. Maybe I'll eventually try to rig something that pulls colder air.

Ahhhh....so you feel that 'tis better to pull more air, even though it's hot air, than to pull fresh cold air? Did ya ever try sumpthin like I've made?

Hummm....I'm thinkin' now.....I may go to the local auto parts recycling center (aka junkyard) and git another airbox to experiment with. You could probably cut the bottom (or side) of the box out, attach a piece of sheet metal (like whats used in a house on a dryer exhaust vent) and use dryer exhaust duct. It's about 4" dia. That should pull a lot more air than what I have now. (only 3" tube)

I'll post pics if I can make it work.

To me, it looks like the additional bends would be restrictive. What I did was cut off the side of the lower half of the airbox facing forward. My ideal setup would be to build out of sheet metal a large scoop that would bring air up from under the car. I'm not sure if I could cut that much metal.

I really like the sound I have though. I think the shape of the chopped airbox amplifies it.
