View Full Version : street-legal skyline engine swap?!
hey, just thought of somethin here. i may be way off, but ill share my idea anyhow.
as we all know, the G35 is in essence an american skyline and 240s do accept skyline engines (i dont know if this is limited to certain engines or if they're modified to fit/work etc) but yah...
technically, couldnt we just get a G35 engine and install it into a 240 for massive power? i dunno how valid this is seeing as how the skyline is 4wd, but then again ppl have swapped skyline engines into 240s before. again, i dunno if that engine would hafta be unique in any way. lets get some input on this =]

With enough money, anything is possible. The main problem is converting the 240 to AWD if you swap in a skyline engine, and making the huge engine fit in the engine bay. There is currently someone at the NICO 240sx forum swapping in an RB26DETT into his s13, so i'd recommend going there and asking him. Also, if you were planning on swapping in an r35 engine, you're either going to have to wait a few years until you can find a totalled one in a junk yard, or spend massive money to buy one from nissan. My recommendation? Buy a different nissan engine for a swap <img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':)'>
Just my .02 cents.

ya i think it was but not to sure if it was the RB25 or the RB20. I just knwo it was the R32s that had the RWD. How badly I want an R32 single turbo  <img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/inlove.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=''> <img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/inlove.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=''> <img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/inlove.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=''>

considering the G35 has a 3.5 liter V6 and only produces 260 hp, 260 ftlbs of torque, geta 300zxtt motor which has 300 hp and and more easily tunable, and cheaper.

Any 'Legal' RB swaps would likely have to be done by MotoRex, as they're the ones who basically legalized the RB26 for Skylines.. I know of another shop that is in the process of becoming another 'legalizer'
As far as VQ35DE swaps, I'd love to see it in an S13.. It'll just be cost prohibitive for a few years, as the motors are VERY new, and well as the custom fabrication that will likely be required.
VG30E swaps are more common.. I know of at least 2. VG30DE (and DETT).. i have NOT seen in a 240sx. That motor is VERY wide, and with turbos you're looking at some VERY difficult routing of piping, etc, requiring GOBS of fabrication. at that point, $ for $, you'd be best off with turbo KA or SR

I was also wondering aboit this. Since there are "legal" R34's driving around, the engine should be a legal swap. But from what I have heard the rb26dett wont really fit. from what I understand you would need to use the rb25 tranny and convert to a single turbo. which is not all that bad, just use a big ass turbo. <img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':)'> Someone should look more deeply into this. as for me, i am poor so it doesnt really matter. <img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/satisfied.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':satisfied:'> But if you have the cash then go for it. <img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/thumbs-up.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=''>

He's talking about a VQ here guys, not an RB.
A VQ swap would be 100% legal! Legit as they come.
It's also aluminum block, i believe, so it would cut down on weight imballance. Hopefully some real hardcore research will be done into this soon.

I thought the G35 comming to america wasn't AWD? and its the same engine going in the 350z. So even if the G35 is AWD, you can always slap a 350z tranny on there. Either way your talking GOBBS of money. seriously. You could probably come close to buying a new 350 for the amount of money you would spend getting it to work.
I haven't actually seen the RB26dett done yet. I have heard of it though. They say they use the RB25 tranny. (like badMojo said) I have seen the RB25DET in there with only minor fabrication.

The G35 is based on the XVL platform from what I've seen. In any case, it's definitely a RWD car. The GT-R on the otherhand... may be a different story.
