to weed out mindless bandwagon-hopping n00bs, ziptied created an entrance test. prospective members cannon view the forums, but can post a new thread in one section. in that thread, they answer fill out some info:
Username, Real name, Age, Location, Email. Car Make, Model, Year. Drift? Grip? Drag? Poser? What in life are you good at? Why do you want to be a member here and how did you hear about us? How much REAL driving experience do you have? ST115 or InitialD? Feel free to link pics and add any other information you feel is needed.
the goals of zilvia and ziptied or different, so zilvia would make its own questions.
then everyone else votes pass or fail and makes fun of the prospective members. remember, they cannot even view the thread they started. so the members can flame away! haha
ziptied is a very elitist forum, but the idea could work here too.

Thread starter said, "ziptied is a very elitist forum, but the idea could work here too".
FA is an elitist forum as well. Is zilvia...I will let the readers be the judge of that...
Electing constituents? All I can say is WOW!

I dunno I think it has merit but on the opposing side i think a lot of people may just say fuckit instead of signing up. The NABR forums have a setup like this without the application process the review your signup info and decide wether or not to activate your account but without the interests, what are you good at, are you cool enough to be on our site bullshit. How about starting out by removing anyone with the words drift or JDM in their username or at least changing the user names to something more useful or better relating to themselves than MAD TYTE JDM DRIFTA YO!

like i said, it wouldn't be those exact questions. those questions work for ziptied. we would have questions that work for us here. if people don't wanna answer a few simple questions, maybe that says something about how bad they wanna be here anyway.
and you wanna get rid of me? ok thanks.

nah, i say you can have whatever name you want, and the individual reviews will weed people out. even if they bs their way through, they won't last long. :mephfawk:

good point now we just need to
1. get a mod to respond to this

I think I speak for all the mods when I say: NO.
If one digresses, you'll see a post from them. Otherwise...

C'mon guys. We were all newbies once. Sure, we've come past that point but would we have gotten where we were if we didn't have the resources available to us simply because we didn't know alot? People come here to find info... making this a private site would defeat a lot of it's purpose. It's a community for people to learn.
My preaching is done.

there's a difference between being a n00b who wants to learn and can follow directions and rules, and a n00b who is a complete dumbass who doesn't give a shit about annoying the very people who can help him, or just wants to get people to sign up for ipods.
i'm not saying zilvia should be closed to everyone except for leet racers drifters who spend every weekend at the track. just closed to dumbasses who don't contribute and clog up the boards with bullshit.

It's not being a newbie that everyone hates. It's the newbies that don't do their own research or simply searching. Making a private site will deter most from even joining, but at least you have the most informative members on the subject. What you gain is also what you lose, when you gain those members who are informative in cars and/or tuning, they may not have a strong point in other areas of interest. For instance, if you have a new member who doesn't have a strong point in cars, yet is able to provide more than enough information on other aspects business/law/electronics, then you have just lost a potentially valuable member.
We should have a FAQ for newbies, so that when they join they are required to read though. And answer a basic quiz at the end of it. If they pass then they are able to post questions, but if they fail then they will have limited privileges. (I'm referring to POSTING NEW THREADS.) When they deem they are worthy of "Graduating", they can retake the quiz. After then they should be able to post new questions.
ziptied.com's "application" process is effective, but still is lacking some points. (some of the comments they make seems that they only accept people who are actively into events.)
btw....summarizing- you win some you lose some. and having a test for new members before they are even able to create new threads.

or we can hide passwords inside of old FAQ threads!! so you can only become a member if you search through the FAQ..
that would not be a bad idea..
I get your guys' points now.. I'll withdraw my previous sermon.. haha
