Turdz finally got his aero on, so we got some S14 Kouki twins action.

Here's a little photo shoot we did...if you can spot ALL the differences between Turdz and my car,....you get...

...a cookie. And pride. Or perhaps lack of pride, because you spend too much time here. Either way...enjoy! [flamesuit=ON]

exactly the same.

Not quite. Sideskirts, rear bumper addons, taillights, sticker in a 1/4 window, front plates, sunroof on one, antennaes.. all different. I'm sure there's more, but I don't need a cookie at the moment, so I'm not going to scrutinize it.

It will be a good long while before our collective wheel arsenal even approaches theirs...unless someone wants to donate to my Shoes for Koukis fund...

If you can find me Stern Aguzze S-07R in quality 17-inch size, that'd be real nice...

I have seen them maybe 3 times:
Once on a blue turbo 'teg in SCC, one white prelude online, and one random R33 skyline in a magazine.

Why all that work to get a "stock" look?

Because stock fits better.
Because stock is urethane.
Because stock comes painted.

mostly, though...stock looks good. Why would I go aftermarket just for the sake of aftermarket? there's tons of crap in the aftermarket thats...crap. Would I get it just so I can claim I have more "mods"?

As for performance mods...Turdz probably has more track time than some people can say. Driving matters more than owning parts..although owning parts is cool too...

For a good long time as well, I didn't have a 5-spd, making any engine mod pointless. Living in Smog Land Cali w/ no backup cars doesn't help, either.

For now, neither of us will go with any crazy engine work- driving more and then upgraded suspension and more maintenance is the immediate future. I just got some Azenis Sports for the stock SE rims, Turdz is looking at some coilover options. When I pay off some credit card debt, I'll look be looking at coilover and multilink shit as well.

We just helped install an S15 differential in a friend's car, and felt the difference immediately. That's on the wishlist as well.

And now, the moment everyone's been waiting for...the listssss

Aero:
Turdz- JDM kouki front bumper w/ optional Aero lip, zenki aero sides, jdm rear bumper w/ rear valences, authentic kouki wing
OZ- JDM kouki front bumper, USDM skirts, EDM bumper, German 200SX Z-edition rear lip, Silviaparts.com replica kouki wing

Hood:
Turdz- stock
OZ- slightly bent from accident =(

Headlights:
Turdz- black housing, S2000 HID retrofit, silver painted corner housing
OZ- black housing, stock projectors, black painted corner housing

Tailights:
Turdz- stock kouki
OZ- zenki w/ blacked out center section, redded out corners

Turn Sigs:
Turdz- amber JDM stock
OZ- tinted amber JDM stock

Fogs:
Turdz- JDM brackets w/ no fogs
OZ- JDM brackets w/ fogs

Body:
Turdz- no sunroof, clean tint
OZ- sunroof (sucks ass), fucked up tint in rear, replacement nonrecesing antennae

Suspension:
Turdz- stock
OZ- RS-R Sus Down, KYB AGX

Brakes:
Turdz- stock
OZ- Q45 front (red)

Misc:
OZ- UCDeezNuts and Zilvia.net stickers in rear quarter windows
OZ- dirty and lots of dings, blackened NISSAN hood badge, badgeless rear
Turdz – ungodly clean body, newer NISSAN hood badge, badgeless rear

That's more information than anyone wanted to know, eh? Who got all that right?!

Seriously...wheels are next...either Kosei K1 or Gram Light 57S depending on my finances and availability...

TurDz
03-07-2005, 08:08 PM
hey, thanks for all the compliments.

about lowering the car, I really don't care personally. I really like how my car looks in person. The kit compliments the stock wheels even more. You can say I have standards that are uncommon.

my whole plan since I got the car was learn to DRIVE the car first. If I've learned anything valuable from ppl here, it's that. Last season I took it for auto-x about 5 times just to get a feel for the car in a safe environment. I haven't put any modifications at all, except safety (HID). BTW, my tires are ass bald, lol, but they have a tread rating of like 550 or something haha.

Very soon, I plan to track at buttonwillow with stock suspension, and after a few events, I will invest in an LSD, then a bride seat, then suspension components, then wheels. So yeah, the look will stay for probably a year or more.

The aero I collected took a long time, but I had patience and it's finally done. I slowly found the parts and then had them all shipped together.

Yeah I just looked at Opt.0's cardomain and saw that it's still an auto... I mean, I know this contradicts what I said before, but dude, you gotta swap to a 5 speed tranny, it doesn't even cost that much. When I did my swap I got an engine with it, I parted that out and it basiccly paid off all of my tranny swap. And it wasn't even that hard... Oh well... I just don't see your car as pimp seeing it's an autotragic... *shrug* Good luck anyways.

yeah, i don't mind opinions.

as i said, the aero was built up over a duration...I only have a limited amount of patience to save $700-$800 for an LSD. And at the time, the last 1.5 years, I didn't even know how to drive the car very well. What's the point of all these performance mods if I can't maximize it's benefits? I'm getting to the point though where I am ready to start changing the car's characteristics.

HID was just something I always wanted to do 3 years ago...I got a good deal on the projectors and ballasts, and again, at the time, I didn't want to invent in any performance mods for the same reason as above.

so it's not like because I have these body mods first, i am any less dedicated to actually driving the car and learning about it. I take good care of the paint, but that doesn't mean I won't try to track it with all the body mods on. it isn't a show car at all. All of those parts were found painted pearl white...I never took anything to the body shop. The wing was installed on a USDM trunk so there are two holes plus a larger one that still show. Again, I couldn't justify ~$300 for spoiler install and trunk repaint. HID, on the other hand, I can justify. With the benifits of seeing very well at night, I would do it all over again if I had to.

Yes, i reeaaally need a 5-spd swap...

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v482/OptionAero/My%20240/interior1.jpg

The cardomain is pretty out of date, guys; I'll redo it after finals.

The thing about a 5-spd swap, especially on a '97 w/ OBDII is that it isn't just...i'll just do it. So much shit went wrong when I actually got around to it, that I'm glad that I didn't even attempt it right away...I would have had a half-swapped car that couldn't run and no ride for weeks while i sought the right parts. Unless you have the $ to get all new/upgraded shit, you have to go used, and you never know how used stuff will go wrong.

In the time between buying the car and actually swapping in the tranny, I also got a couple raises at work. That certainly makes it easier to handle such a project. So while it's easy to say, you shoulda done this or that...well...it isn't.

None of the aero stuff cost as much as the tranny swap when done individually, and in the meanwhile, I got to wrench other people's cars and learn a hell of a lot more before getting involved with learning how to drive stick properly and dealing with the swap (shop negotiation and parts acquisition).

Undoubtedly with the knowledge and experience I have now, I'd build up a car differently, but hey, it's a process thats different for everyone. Was my way the best or perfect? Probably not, but oh well.

As for urethane....if you don't like it, you don't like it. My car is daily driven and I'd rather not deal with the hassle of worrying about cracks and such; if you don't mind fiberglass, more power to you. No big deal.

Like Turdz said, no problem with dissenting opinion, I will be happy to explain myself and admit that I don't know everything. chmercer certainly has the right to not like my car. I don't know him, he doesn't know me, everything's fine. It doesn't affect me that he doesn't have the same taste as me; in fact, I'm glad not everyone has the exact same thing. Kinda defeats the purpose, right?

Few here can say their cars are truly done, we all have works in progress. Thats what we love the process, right?

OptionZero
03-08-2005, 12:45 AM
Meh, I don't really like the straight black dash...it just seems plain to me. Some people might think it's tacky, i personally favor the silver on black theme.

SilviaDriver is correct:
The car originally came with the factory optional Wood Trim (i think it was a factory option, but i've never seen it on another 240...). When you remove that stuff, it leaves a horrible residue that is nearly impossible to remove. I can either leave it and have a completely trashed surface on every inch of my dash...or i can cover it up. Carbon Fiber is REALLY tacky, IHMO ...especially on the interior, so I went with a simpler "brushed aluminum" kit.

Put it this way:

It'll look great with Black Bride Brix II's with the Grey Graduation in the middle!

dct223
03-08-2005, 12:45 AM
OBDII has nothing to do with transmission swap... if you had ALL the hardware before hand, and went for the tranny install, it would be pretty straight foreward... The only hard part i can think for the install would be breaking the torque on the tranny bolts, and that one tranny bolt thats near the freaking EGR crap.. You could still use ur same ECU, you would throw a bunch of codes yea... but nothing that would make ur car not run. I think the only thing that would be hard is to source is a 5speed OBDII ECU so u dont throw any stupid codes if u had to smog or something...

OptionZero
03-08-2005, 12:49 AM
I am told by the shop, Evolution Motorsports, that the '97 tranny has an extra sensor or two on it for OBD II.

I also purchased a complete tranny swap that never arrived (thank you S15Zenki, sir).
Even after getting the car back from the shop, I had to track down miscellaneous bits and pieces, and I am still looking for a way to cut my brake pedal (you kno how much a 5spd one costs individually?!..insane) safely and accurately. There should be a metal shop nearby I'm told.

I passed smog without any problems just 2 weeks ago, with the swapped tranny and OBDII ECU, as well as '91 cams....on a rainy day.

OptionZero
03-08-2005, 01:13 AM
Yeah, speed sensor? gear sensor? I dunno, but i'd rather have a '97 tranny in a '97 car if possible. Probably fewer miles as well.

IGSDann
03-08-2005, 07:00 AM
When I did my 5 speed swap on my 97' I replaced the ECU, hooked up back up lights, speed sensor and crank angle sensor... And that's it. Throws no codes, gives no problems, runs just fine everytime. I am using a 95' Tranny though, that's preOBDII... Still don't know what these extra sensors you're talking about are? And I don't think the swap was that hard... I was only 17 when I did it and got it done in a week (would've had it done in 4 days but was too dumb to unhook the exhaust... wasted a ton of time trying to line up the input shaft  ).

OptionZero
03-08-2005, 09:17 AM
I don't have a comparison in front of me, but the shop had a pre 97 tranny available and wouldn't install that on in my car, insisting on finding a '97 because of the differences.

Yeah, but...I don't even have a garage...and I'm not about to do a tranny swap on the street when I need to drive to work.

dct223
03-08-2005, 09:56 AM
i dont think there are "extra" sensors, all s14 trannys are the same. OBDII is for emissions on the motor, not for emissions for tranny. NOWW if the shop had a S13 tranny that would be another question, since it doesnt have a port for the crank angle sensor, and i think the speed sensor doesnt hook up right...

w/e this is getting off topic..

NICE KOUKIS again =P

people can do whatever they want w/ their car, if you don't have anything nice to say, don't. I see two clean cars and for that I give 2 thumbs up. Not everyone wants their ride slammed with hardcore performance parts, guess some people just can't believe that.

Now if you guys want to just be gay over the internet, so can I:

The adhesive is super freakin strong, i literally had to scrape it off. My dash surface is horribly scarred now, so I had to cover it with the aluminum trim. Plus, it looks perdy and matches my shift knob =P

Funniest moment ever was at a Honda meet...this guy in a G35 comes up to me and says he LOVES my car....and I had an awesome interior cuz of the wood trim

I smiled and nodded.

Black = high maintenance color. Looks great when clean, otherwise looks like crap.

Colorado:

Did you buy that car from MTK Kommander? or are you MTK Kommander? that looks like an HID retrofit too.

I have a question, i think on nico theres a thread on kouki conversion.... and it says that you can use the kouki headlight with the zenki corners is this true? I was hoping to just change the front bumper and hood and switch over the kouki headlight.

DUDE, you are seriously on the wrong freakin' thread.

Read the FAQ on Zilvia in the FAQ forum
Search for kouki conversion on Zilvia
Go to www.jspec.com and read the write up

If that's too much work for you, try this:

Look at a zenki.
Look at a kouki.
Compare the headlights.
Answer the question yourself.

Its true...its true...every kit looks the same with a black car...and every black looks like every other black...

If you park an Aspen Pearl White 240 next to any other white (acura, honda, bimmer, etc), you can notice a different. It's not quite as off as Championship White, but its darn tootin' close

I'd rather have an OEM bumper than aftermarket. Just look at all the nicks and cracks i got on my bumper. But boooooo im disappointed in the optional lip bumper. I guess i was in the impression that its gonna be lower and sleeker looking that the normal JDM one. If i could do it all over again...stock JDM kouki bumper mated with a C-west lip.

Anyways as for the tranny thing...you need a OBD-II tranny cuz of the crank angle sensor. OBD-Is doesnt have this. You can use a 95 tranny even tho theyre still OBD-Is cuz they already came pre-tapped for the sensor on top of the bell housing. I know cuz i had this issue when i blew my tranny over a year ago. Tried to find a OBD-II tranny but gave up after reality sank in where almost 60% of koukis sold were automatic. Tried to rebuild it but shop wanted $1500 to do so...so i said fook it and went SR.

Yeah, I knew there musta been some sensor somewhere...haha...I got lucky cuz Evolution was able to get me a tranny...otherwise its damn near unpossible

My kouki bumper came with signals and fogs...so even tho it was like $700 shipped...i still came out on top.

hey cool that looks like my grandmas car. and you can get over curbs at the grocery store real easy. and it only cost you like a grand.

GAY

call me when you get some wheels and put it like an inch off the ground. the only point of urethane is that you can slam the hell out of it and itll take a beating.

No urenthane can't take no beating... Talk to my greddy lip (urenthane) that is in 4 pieces glued together haha. Anyways I am really sick of the exterior mods for now. It's performance and more performance until I am ready (drifting skill wise) for the VIP exterior :naughtyd: .

Well itll take a beating way better than fiberglass...thats for sure. Hey bory, you paint too? feen like painting my car??? Wait, did you and V split the fender roller???

The Kouki lip seems to be way more forgiving then the Zenki one (from Greddy/Trust/Whatever) I slammed the piss outta mine with the trust lip, and not even thinking about it I tried driving into my buddies garage with a big lip on the slab... rammed right into it so hard the lip flexed in really far with the bumper and bounced me right back off it.... no damage to anything at all. Not to mention all the daily driving on shitty roads it gets.

You're kidding? My kouki bumper has been kicked, bumped, scraped...i even hopped a curb and put two wheels over a little concrete lining and the thing is still good...

Fiberglass would have been 234908609 pieces by now, don't complain about your 4 pieces.

I have a 95, "OBDI" i guess u can call it, my tranny has a CAS, there is an actual sensor there, its not just pretapped and nothing is there. I know this because when i got my clutch changed, Andy from Gorgeous Garage showed me what all the sensors were, and told me the differences between a s13 and s14 tranny..

I like OEM aero cus yea, it takes a lot more abuse than fiberglass, i rather have scrapped lips or bumpers from a messed up driveway, than something cracking. There are many times my front lip has ate shit, and it just comes out scrapped, and all I do is sand it down, and respray it =D

i dont think black really hides body lines, just a pain in the ass to take care of cus they get dirty like 3 days after you wash it, and scraches show up a lot more =/
