got a 93 240sx that won't start...
cranks but won't turn over...

has more then enough juice at the battery, we've got spark, figured out that the fuel pump wasn't getting any power even...

tested with multimeter at the pump and no current, tested at the fuse box (fuse is fine) no volts coming through at the fuse terminals either....

tried reseating the ecu harness... didn't make a difference in or out...

gotta go check some grounds but other than that i have no idea what would cause this to happen... it was running literally hours before it wouldn't start... but it did die on its own as it parked for the last time...

tested the fuel pump straight to the battery kicks in just fine.... something isn't sending it a signal or it's not getting grounded... anyone with similar problems?

Check your fuel pump relay.

do you happen to know where specifically the relay is?

It should be in the fuse box under the hood.. Big square looking thing. Swap it with another relay..and see what happens.

I'd say the relay too.

I like your picture.

ok, switched the relays arround, nothin. now i find that i have no spark either. been trouble shooting for 2 days staright. almost done every test possible. even bought engine starter to spray into inatke manifold to see if it will start...nuthin..

i have to catch up on alot of school, so can anyone recommend a shop in SAN JOSE? i will have to tow the car there too..
thanks

A friend of mine had a similar issue. The wiring going from the replay in the fuel box to the pump is bad. Rather than trying to find where the wire was damaged (it wasnt in the most obvious spots - near the fuse box and near the pump), we simply ran power & ground from the battery straight to the pump, fused the wires and hooked it up to a switch.

Problem solved.

If replacing the relay didnt fix the issue, and it starts fine when you feed power directly to the pump, that equals bad wiring.

Before your car didn't start.. was there anything that you did to it? Alarm, Turbo timer, radio..etc?

i have an alarm, and a radio. but those were done more than a month ago

my car pretty much just died outta no where. it was driving fine the whole day, but did feel a little hesitant when i punched the gas.

i also reseted, and checked for codes in my ecu. it didnt send any codes out. so it might be a bad ecu.

if it is bad wiring, i dont know why it would just suddenly die while i was parking...

i had the same EXACT problem as you but with my SR... tested everything... replaced my ECU then bam it works like it was a brand new car... try swapping an ECU with a friend just to test..

Yeah Im having this exact problem right now with my 92 KA Only my pump works great, tested it by unhooking the fuel filter and turning on the key, soaked a rag quickly in gas. See the thread for "Piston slap vs not starting" Im in the same boat as you man, not sure what the hell to do. I have an extra ECU I know works, Im going to try swapping it in. Not sure if it'll make a difference or not. Good luck man, my car has been interfering with my classes as well.

thanks for all the help guys... it seemed so promising when at 12:00am, my roomate and i decided to go give it one more try. Now the fuel pump works!!! and im getting no spark. so i just went to pick up a new distributor cap and rotor (seemed like it needed replacing). going to do it later tonight, will keep you guys updated - or at least for those with the same problem..

alright, changed the distributor, and the rotor. still wont start.

i cant see if there is spark, b/c im the only one here, cant exactly look at the spark while i start the car...

interestign news tho, my rpm actually moves up and down when im starting it, but it doesnt go past 1rpm. i can sure my fuel pump works...new distributor, new rotor, new spark plugs, new fuel pump. checked fuses, checked relay, checked grounds. i reseted the ecu...nuthin. my check engine light does not come on, and theres nuthin when i try to get the codes. i could try new spark plug wires again, since it was the first thing i tried, but then returned it.

any other suggestions? do i really want to resort to getting a new ecu? how much is that?

well i hate a problem right after i swapped my s13 sr into s14. I checked all continuity to all plugs, checked fuses, checked relays, checked ecus. I had crank, spark, but no air. Turned out that i wasn't getting any fuel. For some reason I was in a wrong ecu mode. So make sure your light is pure red then put ignition key on, try to hear for the fuel pump then...

mine did the same thing and it turned out being the fuel pump, just replaced it and it was a-ok

yuhp your situation sounded like mine...no power to my fuel pump... but got spark...then randomly my car wouldnt start...tested spark... no spark... but i could hear my fuel pump... then they both stopped working all together...plugged my fuel pump in my friends car, and it worked beautifuly...plugged it back into mine.. poop... tested all the way back to my ECU... so i picked up an ECU which are not cheap for SR's and everything was beautiful....

i have narrowed it down to either a distributor, or the ecu. we will see what happens. for now, gotta do some work..

where does the distributor get its power from. because the wires plugging into it are not showing any power...anyone???

is is a ka24de??? if it is then it gets its power from an external coil that sits by your airbox....if you need an ecu... i have a the one from my 93 manual, email me if you want it. [email protected]

my car is a manual, if i get another ecu from a close by junk yard, does it have to be from a manual transmission as well, or does it not matter

Check your timing and make sure that it is on. Oh and check your plugs and make very sure they are basically new and try a smaller than factory gap.

don't quote me on this, but i think it has to be manual....

for a 91-93 240 sx, manual trans (not "se" if it makes a difference)

what is the ecu code? is it "24" or "10"?????

CAN ANYONE POINT OUT THE EXACT MODEL NUMBER OF THE ECU?

g2ic02

the long lights are 10's and the short lights are 1's, but if you need to know the ecu model number i can look tonight after work...i have one sitting in my room...oh wait i sent you an email..hahah didn't realize it was the same person.....
