I'm having some trouble on the driveshaft bolts. I cant get a 2nd wrench on the bolt on the front side (closest to tranny) Any tips are greatly appreciated.
Also, Removing ebrake cable. I unbolted the 12mm bolt iirc. Its for the bracket, but i cant get it to un hook. Tips?
Thanks

weird, i didnt need to use 2 wrenches when i took off my driveshaft, the bolt side was rusted/locked in place, i just removed the nut(diff side). Stupid question but have you tried to remove it without putting a wrench on the bolt?

do what i did.
stick a wrench on the bolt, secure it so it doesnt go flying and start the car up.

O.K. when I first took off my driveshaft had the same problem. Look a little closer you don't need a wrench on the bolt head closest to the tranny it's made so that the bolt head won't turn. I was the first person to take the driveshaft out of my 240 and I put my whole heart and soul into trying to loosen them. Watch Out!!! My car almost fell off the jack stands! Anyways I learned a trick on connecting 2 wrenches together to get more leverage, most mechanics know it. I had to use 2 different set of wrenches because of the angles, 1 set didn't have a good angle to get at the top bolt. You can also turn your driveshaft to make the bolts more accessable. Don't know about the e-brake cables though. Good luck

fuck starting the car. sounds freaking dangerous. Yeah. i dont want the car falling on me.. thats the worst part working under the car with jack stands... Makes me nervous everytime. Think its safer to put the car on 4 jack stands, front and back. i dont want the fronts rolling.

Wedge a pry bar in the driveshaft, double end a pair of wrenches. Takes 2 minutes.

put 4v4 in front of the tires so front doesnt roll

the heads of those bolts for the driveshaft are round with a flat spot on one side. the flat spot rests against the shaft keeping the bolt from turning. all you have to do is put ONE wrench on the nut and loosen. of course make sure your ebrake is up, and if needed, put a piece of pipe on the end of the wrench for more leverage.

Yeah i'm stuck at this very same step....tried ebrake, breaker bar, 3lb hammer, WD40, torch to heat it up (in that order) and no budge....problem is i can't use the box end of the 14mm wrench and the open end seems to be rounding the edges so i stopped before they became to round.
first headache i've encountered with the project HELP!!!!!!

i don't understand what the problem is...
jack the car up on all fours. have someone sitting in the car. you just need a small monkey wrench. tell them to put the car in neutral and release the e-brake. spin the driveshaft with your hand so the bolt you want to take out is in the best position possible. now reengage the e-brake, tell them to put their foot on the footbrake and put the car in gear. no way that shit is moving.
using only that wrench, put it on the bolt and turn it off. should be cake.
i use a really tiny monkey wrench like so:

handle is like 5 inches long.

maybe yours were torqued to spec (40-50ftlbs.) but mine are on so freaking hard...the driveshaft is not moving with the brakes on and a pry bar in the shaft, the nuts are so hard to take off you have no clue (at least on my S14 they are..so hard that i'm rounding the nuts)

pb blaster always helps. buy some, spray an assload on there and come back in the morning. usually that does the trick for me.

PB blaster is a miracle in a can. if they are rounded go to sears and get a set of Craftsman bolt-out sockets. they are awesome

bolt outs are awesome but wont work on the driveshaft bolts.
there isn't enough clearance to slip one on.

today: bought pb, soaked the nut area, tried monkey wrench, ground down the box end of a 14mm wrench so it fits now, attached another wrench for more leaverage....
bottom line - still no luck

that's crazy. i guess they're seized.
give the pb a little time to work. usually it works best if you soak it and let it sit overnight. spray the hell out of it and try again in an hour.

well that's what i'm using now on the nuts but for me to have been able to use it i grounded down my 14mm box wrench to get it to fit...i'm trying again around 6....

before i start cutting, i'm thinking of taking the axles off and removing the diff with driveshaft so i can at least work on it out of the car.
any tips about removing the axles....?

I just dealt with the same problem a couple of weeks ago.
Torching didnt work, no wrenches or braker bars worked at all and i used alotta pb blast. The bottom line the dremmel is your friend. I also concidered removing the rear diff with the driveshaft, but it was so much easier just to cut a notch in the nuts to get the bolt out. I also concidered an impact wrench (air) but you cant even get any type of socket on there because there isnt enough space.
btw, I should have cut it from the beginning. only took 5 min to get the 2 siezed bolts off

I actually ended up getting those suckers off without cutting. I held the driveshaft with a pipe wrench and pushing one way will pulling the other way on the nuts. I put my whole body into it along with popping a vein out of my head...but hey, nothing a few beers couldn't fix afterwards....
the problem i was running into was the play/movement in the driveshaft as i was trying to get the nuts off even while it was in gear and emergency brake on. it wasn't allowing me to put all my force onto the nut. pipe wrench fixed that right away.

Prybar through the u-joint works too.

I've had this problem a few times before usually the first time taking off the driveshaft. I soaked the 14mm by the diff with Liquid Wrench for ~15min, wiped clean with dry cloth and forced a closed wrench on the heads (the open end was stripping the bolts). Also made a trip to Sears to get a wrench with a long handle for leverage. Problem solved.
