Ok I'm totally new to 240's, but I'm considering getting one as my next car. I really like the way the '91-'93's look, especially with the silvia front. My question is, could I build a decent car with about 7 grand to spend (including cost of car)? With that money what sort of stuff could be done to it? Any suggestions? Right now I have a '96 camaro (for sale), would I be disappointed performance-wise by getting this car (I ran a 15.3 at the track)? By the way I like the way this board is setup, very nice .

Well. Most 240sx's stock run about 15.8 with a decent driver. So you'd only be 1/2 second slower than your v6? Chevy.
And as for what you can do with 7g's, it all depends on if you want show or go. Most people want go. What I suggest.
$500 = '91-'93 240sx with blown motor or busticated tranny.
$4000= Sr20det with front clip. 203hp 5-speed turbocharged engine. Break right into those 14's. And you'd have that silvia front end. Check the groupbuys section. Somewhere on there in the sr20det groupbuy is a clip with body panels.
$700 = Brake Job. Gotta stop that power. 300zx brakes!
$1000 = Exhaust, boost controller. Power. Mwahahahaa...
$1000 = Paint job. Pick a nice color and go for it.
That's what I'd do with $7k.

If you get a 240 without a blown motor or sever problems, your looking at about 5or so thousand...which don't leave much cash for mods...
But yeah, you could get a wreaked 240, or a salvaged/stripped one...for damn cheap.
Jeff pretty much laid out all the info you need...

Yes I am concerned with performance, but I don't think I'd be able to pull off that engine swap due to the fact that I need to have a car to drive and I'm sure there's a lot of down time involved in that swap. Are there turbo kits for the 2.4? Superchargers? What about n/a performance? Sorry for all the newbie questions, I bet you guys get tired of answering them. And FYI my car is a V6, I'd be really embarassed if I had an LT1 Z28 running 15.3's.

Often times a front clip won't come with fenders.

Only thing I'd change on that list is breaks though. I'd do springs/shocks first.

Also, 15.8 would be with a pro, any decent driver would be getting low 16's for a stock DOHC 240.

Hoov, an engine swap would probably take 1-2 weeks if you got a shop to do it. A turbo kit would mostlikely take 2-5 days. That is, if nothing goes wrong. Nobody makes superchargers for 240's yet. For N/A tuneing you are likely to hit a wall at 200whp, for the same price you could get a turbo kit pushing atleast 20 more hp. Unfortionately turbokits cost almost as much as the sr20det engine, but your car would cost more since you woudn't want to get one with a broken engine or tranny.

hmm, I may be getting a '91 coupe for 2500 with everything working. I would look around for the cheapest one you can find that isnt totally screwed, get an SR20 slapped into that baby, and maybe add some shocks or rims. Well, thats my two cents.

I found a site that sells the swap for $1799, is that good? I'm not sure if it comes with the silvia front, but I found one of those for $1550. What is the difference between a red top and a black top?

For that price it will definately not come with the silvia front, that will be just the engine and tranny.

Click HERE (http://forums.freshalloy.com/forum/ultimatebb.php?ubb=get_topic;f=9;t=012146) for the difference between red and black top. Am I allowed to link to other forums

Here's some TRUSTED places to pick up an sr
boostdynamics.com (http://www.boostdynamics.com/)
srswap.com (http://www.srswap.com)
unstable-hybrids.com (http://www.unstable-hybrids.com)

And for parts
sr20parts.com (http://www.sr20parts.com)

Does sr20parts.com EVER update their site anymore? I mean, they look like a reliable place to get parts...like a year ago, but it looks like the site's been so outdated that it doesn't even seem so professional anymore. Most good shops would update their sites so customers will know they're still alive and still in business at least.

So, let me get this straight, in order to do the sr20 swap I need to have the silvia front end too? Or will the sr20 fit with the stock front?

The sr20det engine will just "drop right in" with no modifications.
