I was cruising home after droping off some friends this morning. I was in 3rd just about to hit 5k rpm, and just about to shift, when all of a sudden my engine cuts and i hear a loud *BOOM* in my engine compartment, my car sputters, and i hear a lot of metal on metal grinding and thrashing... sounded like my driveshaft had snapped and was being dragged under my car. I made it to the side of the road with white smoke bilowing out of my hood like a giant smoke signal. I get out of my car and pop my hood and there is all kinds of oil below my intake runners/manifold on the passanger side. I go around to my passanger side and look under my car. my baby was bleeding soooooooooooo bad. oil everywhere! all along my driveshaft (which had not snapped and was still in one piece) and my tranny and well... everywhere. looked like a crime scene i saw on CSI a while back.

a call to AAA, my mom, my mechanic and a friend of mine for a ride home later...

and im safe and sound at my house, writing this and being very depressed.

ok so when the towtruck driver lifted my front end i checked under the car and it looks like my oil pan was badly damaged: dendted and deformed...
when i got the car to my mechanic (local nissan specialist) hs first thought was that i shot a rod through my block. wonderful. upon further inspection and after trying to see if the car would even turn over, which it didnt, we determined that i was not getting any compression at all, which means my timing chain had probably snapped and reaked havoc on my head. I don't know which scenario is worse

my own estimates for either case are the same... close to a 1000$ parts and labor. *sigh* and thats probaly a low estimate... i might even be in the market for a whole new block... anyway, thats my story.

im not so easy to give up though... my girl is destined for great things... this is just a bump in the road i suppose. im just trying to think of how happy im going to be when i fix her and she's back to purrin (and growlin) like she once did.

for now... RIP baby, RIP.

-cheers-

so you want to let us know what kind of condition your car was in when you got it and how you drive it on a daily basis? Sounds like you shift near redline on a regular basis and or if you do thats prolly why. Why the hell would you be all the way to 5k rpm? Where you racing or just driving hard? Anyhoo im just curious to know cause thats an amazing feat to do if your just driving home and bust your timing chain. You must have beat the shit out of that car.

i do drive it hard often... but not redline all the time. not even close, i usually never go above 6k, even when im racing. only reason i was up at 5k is becuase i got distracted by the passanger, looked down, went to shift and the rest is history... o well.

$1,000? Would be cheaper to get a KA off someone.

the 1000$ is just my estimate... could be more... if it is too much more, ill just get a new engine and get it swapped. oh and it only had like 90k miles on the engine.

thanks for the condolances guys, its helpful.

even if it is 1000 dollars i would still get another engine and just drop it in. you can do it yourself and save labor money too.

Do it yourself, you'll save a lot of money. And while you're at it, take out a personal loan or some savings and buy a clutch, flywheel and maybe a header, just some shit you can get done all at once. Then you'll be very happy. Good luck with it. Sorry to hear about that.
