is the ECU you are trying to put in SOHC or DOHC? second why wouldn't you just find a manual ECU?

If the ecu is the same vintage as your car it should work fine. No speed limit to worry about and a higher redline too. OBD I ecu's will only with with OBD I motors, and the same applies to OBD II motors and Ecu's.

ok i asked a friend to post this topic for me while i was at school. (thanx coaxil) anyway when i had my 91 hatch i did the auto to manual swap and kept the auto ecu, when i was finished it wouldnt start, so i had to take the bottom harness under the relay terminal, and splice together, well i got rid of that and bought a 89 coupe 5spd and saveed auto ecu and dohc outta the 91, for the sohc to dohc swap, now my question is wil the dohc auto ecu work fine, i dont have that original harness that i spiced, and the 89 5spd is different so i was wondering if there will be any reason why it wont start 2 morrow, (anything to do with the fact that its an auto ecu) so i hope this helps explain everythin thanx

ECU works with the motor. 89-90 all work together, 91-94 all work together, and 95-98 work together. Auto, manual, either ECU will run it. If you've swapped a 91-94 motor in, then you need a 91-94 ECU. Simple.
