I changed my oil this weekend, and the oil was about 1/2" thick... seriously.... and its almost all the way back to the tranny... plus I got the rattles (and yes.. I did take out the top guide out already...)

I read the service guide 10 million times... and I am pretty psyched to try the install... question is what and where do I get the parts... I found a shady ebay bidder... (do a search on ebay) and I was wondering if anyone out there tried out the set (KA24DE) and if it was any good, any extra parts were needed etc... or should I just bring a shopping list to the Nissan dealer?

I am thinking about....

1. Top chain
2. Bottom chain
3. Chain Guides (left and right... i think there is a top one too)
4. Chain Tensioner (I think there is top and bottom to this)
5. Oil seal (I think there is one on the crankshaft, any others?)

The ebay kit says that it comes with cam sprockets and crankshaft sprockets... do I need to replace these too?

Hope someone out there can help me...

Thanks in advance...

sorry for the bump... just want to make sure before I order the parts....

(I guess if no one answers... then no one has bought the parts from here....)

get OEM Timing chain stuff..... everything else not OEM felt like plastic.... really shitty......

oh yeah there is another timing chain guide on the exhaust side in side that upper timing cover..... you have to remove that front upper cover to get to it... after that im sure you will have no rattle.....

dont waste your money on something you dont need.... check the chain for wear or scoring or whatever its called.... and test everything else that the FSM explaines.....

let me say this again so you wont make any mistakes like me.... "get OEM timing chain parts" OEM is expensive as hell... so make sure you replace what you need..

good luck

ok so it sounds like a no go for the ebay deal huh....

thanks guys..

hey according to the FSM, it looks like I basically have to take the top end off and even the oil pan..... is this true? or can i squeeze the panel off and get down there to change the parts?

you won't need to completely remove the oil pan, just loosen it enough so that it can drop and rest on the crossmember. that will give you enough room to shimmy the oil sump out of the pan. the sump is attached to the lower timing chain cover.

this is sounding pretty intense... if i have moderate mechanical skills, should i avoid trying this? i am pretty confident that i can do it, but i'm not sure if i can. (i know there is always a first time...)

as for the top half - so basically the cams and the head have to be removed right?

Most of the cheap(less than OEM) kits use Powdered Steel for the cam gears. OEM is the only safe way to go. The good kits are the same price as the OEM. The only reason I know that people go with non-OEM is that they have another parts vendor.
