Keep up to date with the entire trip across the country and see the photos that they take. Also feel free to look around the site and contact CCR for anything that you might need for your car.
They're a great bunch of folks and their work is top notch. If you bring your car to have something installed, expect nothing short of amazing work. You will be most impressed.

Sorry, but I lost all respect when I saw the Silver 350Z with l.e.d. underbody lighting and a light up spoiler. :ghey:

That 350z hauls ass. The owner is cool as shit, too. The wing is for show purposes only. But hell, I don't think you would be bitching at all if it landed you sponsorships ... nuff said.

Number of sponsors I have - 0
Number of sponsors I want if they want me to put stupid shit on my car - 0
I think it's great that it's fast though, and I'm glad the owner is a nice guy. But don't ever assume anything about me.

So... why is it legal? As far as I know, there have never been any of the things required to legalize them done here in the US.
The only way you could legally have one is if it was part of some military vehicle loop hole...

Sooo, how did they do what so few are able to do? How in the hell did they get a S15 street legal?

02-21-2005, 01:09 PM
so why can't you register it as a kit car? as much as i think the car is sex i wouldn't have it just because there are a ton of other great cars that have the drivers seat on the right side.

I have no idea how they are getting it legalized. The president is a little hush-hush about it.
If you import a Japanese car, it has to meet EPA standards for the USA and also DOT standards. Basically like getting it emissions legal and also installing the same kind of windshield safety glass that we have in our cars. The Japanese don't do that.
The 350z is also the guy's personal vinyl canvas. He practices a lot of things with his car so that way he can offer more products as a side job for vinyl and whatnot. He's been making pretty good money off of it so far, too. Right now it has a Cool Cat Racing banner down the side of the car in chrome vinyl. But man, I'm not a big vinyl guy for some things, but this car is just awesome. So I could care less. And like I said, the owner is cool as shit.
Hey cool so I guess sr20det engines are now US legal!

My understanding was they have to crash test several cars before street legalizing them in the US, thus making it cost prohibitive unless you can import and sell quite a volume at inflated prices. If they actually have done this it would mean one of the major hurdles has been overcome with bringing street legal S15's over.
The military loop-hole certainly seems alot more plausible though.

Allow me to be the first to formally call bullshit on this.
http://www.nhtsa.dot.gov/cars/rules/import/web_RI_list02012005.html
RI list. They're not on it. Means its not legal, unless someone else did it for them.
If someone else did it for them, I'd love to know who.
http://www.nhtsa.dot.gov/cars/rules/import/
Importation guidelines, expemtion lists, more info.
Basically, I think when they say "street legal," they mean "We were able to find loopholes and get the car registered," which anyone can do. Register it as a kit car, swap vins and register it as a S14 or somehthing... its not rocket science.
But just 'cause its registered and has a license plates and tags does NOT make it street legal.. the engine is still illegal, and the car is still illegal and not as safe in a collision as a US market vehicle.

No, it is not military involved in any way. You go through a lot of paperwork, and through CCR if you want one.

kazuo, call bullshit all you want. But when the car goes down the road and sits in a driveway, I'll be laughing.

I hate to tell you but there are SEVERAL "legal" s15's in the US. It's not the first or the last for that matter.

kazuo, call bullshit all you want. But when the car goes down the road and sits in a driveway, I'll be laughing.
So if its going down a road and sitting in a driveway, it's street legal?
There's several JDM S14's, various Hondas, a couple Skylines AND two S15's here in NorCal on the street, that occasionalyl go down roads and sit in driveways, and they're still ILLEGAL.
Just 'cause you have tags and registration does NOT equal legal.
Plenty of S15's in SoCal that drive aroudn everyday. They have tags and shit, but they're still illegal.
No crash testing / no safety mods (side impact beams, stronger supports, safety glass, sidemarkets) / No EPA testing = ILLEGAL
Doesn't matter if you have tags for it or not.
I know a guy with a RHD Civic hatch, and its illegal as hell, but he has tags for it.
You need to understand the difference between being able to skirt the system and actually having a street legal car.
Skyline from MotoRex/RB = Legal
S15 Silvia at Japan Auto in South San Francisco = Illegal as hell

This car has already gone through the DOT and EPA and legalized in both categories. I am not saying anything else on this fact. Continue to say what you wish. I am done debating.

Here are some interesting facts about importing a non-US car straight from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration...
http://www.nhtsa.dot.gov/cars/rules/import/
The 240SX and Skyline are mentioned, however it does not explictly mention the S15. Bear in mind the Vehicle Eligibility list is a little over 6 months old.

I like how you're defending this company and are adamant that their S15 is 100% legally imported.
You must have a kung-fu grip on their nutsacks!
I'm calling BS on it being 100% legal too. Having researched all the BS one would have to do to make a car like that street legal here, there's no chance of it happening, especially because of the cost/profit ratio.
They'd have to charge ~50k for a stock used S15.

That's stupid to just base your belief that the car is legal, because you think you know what is going on, cause the president dude or whatever is whispering some bullshit in your ear. Wise up man, ppl have posted numerous documents specifying the legalities concerning making the car a legal US registered vehicle.
JuJuBee
02-21-2005, 05:34 PM
it can be registered, and can be "legal" but its not
and the car is based in fucking georgia, please 100% "legalize" it in California
trust me, its not hard to register vehicles in hick ass states and just because you CAN register dont mean shit, the rules are so lax
it is not 100% legal and if it was, then you would be able to tell us how they did it instead of this hush hush "i know what goes behind closed doors" bullshits

Ahem...the only skyline that was certified by Motorex was the R33 GT-R. The R32 and R34 are still not certified. So your statement is only true for the R33 :D

Ever heard of a company called RB Motoring?
When I say "hush hush" I mean he does not want the whole procedure being public knowledge. I know how he got it done and no illegalities or cutting corners about it.

I like how he says "I don't know how they legallized it", then comes back and says he knows how it they did it and what went on behind closed door blah blah...
Then he won't answer anyone's questions about how it was done and tells the admin to just lock it because he's finished and bored with this topic I guess. Why the hell did you make this thread then, increase your post count?

Um...yeah. They piggy back off of Motorex's legalization work. They did not spend the same amount of money that Motorex did. If Motorex goes down they willl have to scramble.
