I'm in the market for a new clutch kit. I saw one from www.clutchnet.com its a 6 puck sprung... dunno if i should take a bite at it. Let me know what you guys are running ...

ooh yea... sometimes when i step on teh clutch pedal it goes.. HUMMMMMMMM>........ then i step off it goes quiet again :). throwout bearing?

when is shift now i have to like pull and push the shifter super far up and super far down. =[ it grinds occasionally :D

well anywho.. what clutch are you guys using?

I have a clutchnet one in my '97 KA. I'm not sure if they make different stages, but in any case, it should be the lowest cheapest one (street performance level?).

I don't really have anything to compare it to, as it came with my 5spd swap and i haven't driven anyone else's car in a while, but I'm not really comfortable. the clutch pedal seems pretty heavy, and the engagement range is very very small. As I have almost no power adders, I don't know how it handles added torque.

I'm a new driver to stick, but a friend of mine with an S13 with far more experience (track time as well), had a VERY difficult time driving it, saying it was difficult to get a feel for when to let it out.

So it could be just me, but my first impression is not pleasant.

Perhaps go with the Exedy OEM replacement, around $80-100 bucks, which should be a straight stock replacement...or save and go ACT/Centerforce/Exedy?

i just put in a new clutch 2 weeks ago, ACT street for my KA. I'm loving it right now. i admit act is a bit pricy, but u get what you pay for, and i'm really satisfied with mine. I would recommend ACT clutch. I can't compare it with any other clutch except stock, because i haven't used any other clutches before. But most of my friends uses ACT. :faint:

iono youd only want to upgrade clutches if its slippin because of hp increase.. just to match. i think daikin/exedy is fine till u up the anty in hp.. a lighter flywheel would probably be a better upgrade then a clutch kit if your running stock..... IHE doesnt count

act hdr4 (4 puck disk, heavy duty pressure plate) I liked when I ran that. I stepped up to an xt though for hp reasons.

i was lookin at act. do they offer the hd / xt pressure plate with the street clutch? or would I have to buy them separately? for s14 on their website they only offer starting from the r4.

Clutchnet has our car listed as a 240z. I can't trust something like that.

running ACT street/strip on my SR..for about 2 years now. recently swaped things over to my new shell and plenty of pad life left. Good clutch kit..once the disk wears down probably gonna get a exedy disk but keep the act heavy duty pressure plate. it's as stiff as a. :jerkit: ..and u get the picture..lol

didn't know act called them stages, so I don't know what that translates over too, but yes act offers the street disk and hd/xt pressure plate as a kit.

i got a centerforce stage 2... i didnt really wanna spend a lot of money on my KA tranny... but yea i love it... its how a stock clutch should act... engagement is smooth, clutch catches well if i drop it, pedal is stiff but not that bad, no noise like spec, and did i mention it was cheap? 200 bucks for hte kit, all u need is a OEM T/O bearing

centerforce dual friction and i am in love.... it hold up to as much abuse as i can throw at it and begs for more.... and it doesn't feel too much heavier than stock.... it's not the least expensive, but it'll last a while....

How is the White Bunny set up done?
1997-1999 FRONTIER 2WD?
1975-1978 280Z?
1978-1983 280ZX?

How is the White Bunny set up done?
1997-1999 FRONTIER 2WD?
1975-1978 280Z?
1978-1983 280ZX?
i was wondering the same thing and did a search on a couple forums and compiled together some posts regarding it:

white bunny special.

which consists of a 1990 or later Hardbody 4WD flywheel for the KA24E (which will work on the DE as well) then get a 280ZX turbo pressure plate with a 280ZX 2+2 clutch disk. these are supposedly rated for about 400lbs/ft of torque. beefy. plus, its a 240mm diameter surface instead of the normal 225mm and it has 9 cover bolts instead of 6. beefy.

White Bunny Special. 240mm flywheel from KA truck or custom aftermarket like TY's. Then you can use 280Z Turbo clutches or Luk and Goldline truck clutches.

not even $175, after shipping on all parts.... Ebay auction for a genuine exedy OEM replacement clutch for 280ZX 2+2 and turbos, $79. then go to car-part.com and get yourself a flywheel for $25. TONS available. then your all set to go. figure about $30 for shipping on the clutch and about $20 for the flywheel.

I'm using a variant of it with a flywheel from the hardbody KA, which is 240mm vs. our 225mm friction surface. Then you can use 280zx turbo clutches. I'm using the ACT street which is rated for 400lb-ft vs. 270 for the 225mm. Obviously, the pucked clutches would hold even more.

-------------------------------

I use the Nismo slave cylinder on my setup, hence what Dousan said. Super easy to use.

Flywheel is made by Design Products, not Tilton. These guys supply aluminum flywheel to Nissan Motorsports.

Engagement and modulation is super easy. For throwout bearing, I use the S14's which is same as 280ZX turbo, and same as Z32 none-turbo.

Driving on the street, it feels like a much stronger stock clutch. Engagement points with the Nismo SC, feels stock. Only give away is the good feedback, initial bite, and the higher pedal efforts (even with the Nismo SC. The Nismo SC already reduced efforts by 40%).

WB SPL #1 went on Mike Lee's T66 KAT. No problems holding that 500rwhp monster.

WB SPL #2 went on my car. I abused it severly in drifting. Doing clutch kicks without hesitation. Stil holds great.

The setup is good for 400lb-ft of torque. If I ever need more than that, I'll go order up a Nismo RB20DET Pressure plate and 3 puck sprund hub clutch disk. They are the same clutch as the 280ZX Turbo, etc.

--------------------------------

Why is the WB SPL good?

Good driveability and good torque holding capability. Compared to the extreme duty clutch for the KA's 225mm clutch, it only holds 376lb-ft with a 3 puck clutch disk. That setup is not very driveable.

This is with the ACT street 280Z turbo clutch with full face organic disk. ACT's version is rated for 400lb-ft.

excuse me if any of this is incorrect as i'm merely reposting what someone else has posted.
