What is that roof bulge seen often in rally and gt raceing? Seems like it would just slow you down.

Well for an MR racecar, it feeds cool air to the engine (McLaren F1).

Rally car wise, I bet it has to do with venting the fuel cell.

the rally roof scoops are used to bring in fresh air into the cockpit

Roof Scoops look sooooo badass tho, even if their fake and do nothing.
But it just brings in Cold Air into usually the engine, or maybe the cockpit, i never heard that...
I wanna get a Carbon Fibre Faux roofscoop for my silvia...just for a ricey type look (lol, cant believe i said that...but they do look pretty badass)

I dont' think a roofscoop goes well with the S14's lines, but it might look ok on an S13 HB, so long as it was small.

I've never thought about putting the scoop on the s14...
It would look good if it was molded nicely into an Integra Type R (ie when i wanted one ect.) But yeah,
u know the Eclipse from FastandFurious right...Yeah, found a carbon version of its scoop, in a few different sizes...the small one might look alrite

I'm so damned confused. Ok, the fake scoop might look cool if it's small (very) and on an S13, but not on an S14. That's what I meant.

On an s13 maybe...but i dont WANNANA S13!!!!
You can make anything work on any car as long as you have imagination...lol
and with the stuff im planning on (s15 front, GTR34 Rear, maybe some NSX Doorpannels/sidevents ect) it would look neato

That's quite a project you have there! Just don't over do it with the vents, scoops, etc.

EONE914 is correct, it's to bring fresh air into the cockpit; it gets pretty hot and sticky inside those helmets and flame retardant suits.
Especially in endurance racing, cool (fresh) air is important to drivers!

Only on Mid or rear engined cars (MR2/Porsche, for instance) would a roof scoop bring air into the engine/radiator/intercooler.

Having a non-functioning scoop reminds me of Mustangs and Camaros... I give it a thumbs down, but to each their own.

How does the scope (for say gt1 cars) get air to the engine without blocking the rear view? does it just take the air to the back of the roof?

i always thought that those roof scoop thingies were like cold air intake scoops for the gt1 cars.

I know this guy with a GTS viper thats been done up by some racing company and his roof dosent have a scoop it had two bumps in the roof.... over where the passagers sit.... roof is bubbled out like that to make like a bluge on the inside to the driver and or passagers helmets do not hit off the roof on the inside... just for added head room.....
So i was told.... don't quote me on that one

Having a Real Working roof scoop on a Daily Driver would be useless, as i dont need air in the cockpit all the time...
And personally, i think the roof scoop looks badass, Like, just 1 and not all this ricey shit.

This guy i know, he has a totally custom 99 SiR, and runs the shop RPM Racing, his names Roberto...anyway...
His civic is SOOOOO badass (yes its a civic, and it IS badass, u should see it in person...) I don't hve a scanner, so i can't get hte photos up, maybe i can jack Simons digital camera (photos on there.) Anyway.
He has an intake scoop thingy on the right side, and reverse scoops in the left side with 2 mounted gagues (on the hood, facing the cockpit), Totally custom bodykit with skirts with an intake leading to the brakes or soemthing, and NSX SideVents w/ door panels...Its White, and has these interesting grafix on the doors...Its like a peice of the car was ripped off, like a hole shot in it or something, wif RPM stickers in it...you gotta see it to get it...but i'll try and get pics.

Anyways, DRBubble, yeah it is a bit much...Im not sure about the SideVents...but its definte s15 Front R34 Rear assembly...I want it too look unique and sexy

depends on where the scoop/bump is if its over the driver side area then its for helmet clearance if its in the middle of the hood and the car is F engine then its probably to cool brakes or some other system. if its a M engine car the its a CAI usually to keep dust out of the intake. id put a cosmetic one on my roof if it was C/F depending on how well it flows with the car. i think it looks pretty cool. on the gt cars that have em as a CAI it doesnt really block the veiw becasue there was really no view backwards anyways (cept for outside rearview mirrors) they dont have rearview mirrors on the inside.
