I own a black 97 240sx(automatic) and im just curious about how much would it cost to swap an sr20det in my 240. Ive asked a racing shop and they say that it would cost way more to swap a stock engine thats an automatic than a manual, is this true?

Not if both your current 240, and the SR are automatic, no, that's not true.

Well, if you get an SR then you'd be getting a new tranny with it also, which should be a 5 speed (6 speed on s15 SR). So that means you'd be doing an auto - manual swap at the same time. So yeah, I can see why it would cost more, but not way more.

Ooops, I read through the post too damned fast, and read wrong.  Ok, the thing is this, most SR20DET's imported are not automatics, in fact, it's a very very very rare thing if they are, I don't know of any that have been.  Anyways, it will cost more because an importer is going to have to scour to find one overseas, and then send it over here just for you.  Scouting costs time, time = money, special shipment = more $$$.  You will end up paying more for the engine, but probably not a horrendous amount.

On the other hand, if you get a 5-speed (or 6 for the S15 like previously mentioned), then in order to do the switch, you will have to fabricate some things (I'm not sure of EVERYTHING, but some things are clutch, clutch pedal, and I think the drivetrain).  So if he meant that it's more expensive on a car that already has an automatic transmission, then yes, he's right.

I thought that you said you already had the engine (and it was an automatic), and just were asking if the install would be more expensive.  My fault.

all that would be really different is a flex plate and a flywheel autos have flex plates manual have flywheels

and the ecu's would be different

other than that not much. a stock sr20de flexplate may be the same but im not to sure better off asking heavy throttle, unstable hybrids, sr20development and other places known in the 240 sr community.

I just asked this question to heavy throttle last week and this was the reply...

>I have a 91 240SX with an automatic transmission.  Can I still swap to the
>SR20DET?  What additional $$ and parts would be involved if this is
>possible.
>
>Thanks.

>We can put a 5 speed DET into the car, no problem. It will be about $200 in
parts (from dealer) and about $200 in labor.

No.
You need the tranny case to bolt up to the sr correctly.

It's a truck block, devil. Don't you know?

You'll need two transmissions, don't forget. 'Cause if you ever go to the mall, they steal trannies there. You gotta have at least two to be on the safe side. I'd keep the automatic and then install another manual on there.

Are all of you nuts! <img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/crazy.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=''>

Forget about the GTR badges or V-tec engines....just bust out some L.E.D. wiper squirters! Import Ricers magazine states they give you an additional 59 rear wheel hp and raise the boost on turbo cars to 43psi!

If not the squirters, get some neon lighting!

I had a smile on my face that just froze when I first got to go 6000+ RPMs in my S2000. It lasted for along time. There is such a power boost that you can really feel. 250 hp stock with a 2.0L engine is <img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/cool.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=''>

I still love my Nissan, and want to get a similar experience with it. That's why I am on this board.

BTW everybody knows that only Neuspeed decals actually increase HP at the WHEELS[B] <img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=';)'>
