well last week i finally got my car running, still brreaking it in. i think i got about 200miles to go. anyway, this dude that hangs out with my friends every once in a while has challenged my to a race. He has a 1998 Dodge Viper GTS and doesnt believe my car will hit 12's(ha ha!. well i am racing him next weekend at some track in NY. But remember i am running 25psi.
what do u people think?? who will really win?
Here's my car (http://boosteds14.tripod.com/1997nissan240sxturbo)

Hey Boosted. Which TiAL wastegate are you using? what size? I'm going to boost my KA up to about 20 but the 35mm wastegate only has a spring up to 16psi. What is the bolt pattern on the F-Max manifold for the wastegate? 2 or 4 bolt, because I want the 40mm TiAL but it's a 4 bolt pattern and won't go on a RevHard manifold without mods.
Thanks
Hey, my name is Jeff too and I'm also 19

Yeah, you got a good chance, even tho vipers are badass cars...yours still looks like it could put up a fight.

hey, i have a 35mm wastegate. and so what about the 16psi spring. with a boost controller u can set any boost u want. well if u hook up the vaccum lines up the correct way. if not then u will not be able to go more than 16psi. and i really dont think it is a 16psi spring, i believe it is a 18psi. also, u can also put a stiffer spring in if u want to but i never heard of any one doiing that themselves.

That would be great if a "measley" 4 cylinder car would be a beast of a 10 cylinder! Now this I want to see. How much HP are you pushing at the wheels? I should almost take a trip to NY to see this go down!

well vipers run a 12.45 stock if they got a good driver behind the wheel. eh well with 350-400 you got a damn good chance
jskim9
03-21-2002, 03:58 PM
yea, if you're pushing 25psi, with all the other numbers dialed in correctly, you're looking at anything in between 350-400 depending on your specific setup. With an LSD, good suspension, you should pull it deep into the 12's, maybe low if you're a good driver. Even though it has power, it is much heavier than your car. Is the viper on slicks? Even if he is, you should win with good shifting. If you have a suspension setup, race him on a track, there you should win, unless he knows how to handle that car.

I dont know, the Viper has what 450hp stock, 315s in the back and a lot more torque then the SR. Id count on the Viper.

450hp
490lb-ft of torque
0-60 in 4.1 sec
1/4mile in 12.45
heres my prediction. 1st gear you guys are even (you got slicks so you'll catch quick) and second gear he gets a little ahead. third and your pullling and pass him and 4th your about 1-2 car lengths away. i think thats how itll go

Yeah, that would be a nice ass race to see...
Up in canada...you don't see races like that...to get my 'cool race fix.' I have to use fahking morpheus...bah
anyways, if your pushing around 400hp, and you can atleast shift smoothly, you got a good chance of winning...
like others said...viper is 10cyl...but heavy like a bastard...even if he did massive weight reductions...Heavy like a bastard.

hey boosted very close to my setup
anyways you have nothing to worry about. i took a viper running the 50 lbs injectors with the 4 bar fuel press program from jim wolf without a problem on 93 octane gas running 16 psi on a t4 fastrax turbo.
i got the 72 pounders but didnt put them in yet. Also look into the cams and sprockets JWT has with less overlap.
Oh should of got the 5 angle valve job
Very good choice on the motor I must say.

to answer some questions i saw:
i am running 114 octane unleaded
i didnt get the 5-angle because it is not nessary for turbo
and the viper is not on slicks.. stock tires
but right now i am having a bit of a problem, i am getting a loud knock sound from the one of the cyclinder's only when the car is idleing? someone help me?

PING! AHHHHHH.
sounds like youve got a case of detonation, either a product of too much boost with incorrect timing settings and/or bad gas. since you're running 114, im gonna say its bad timing.
boosteds14
03-22-2002, 10:04 AM
it might be timing, because it is fine after 3000rpm, it happens at idle

03-22-2002, 11:54 AM
That will be interesting... the viper is only 3400 pounds, so nothing serious for a car with torque flying out it's ass, but you should win, best 1/4 I have seen from a stock viper is 12.1 and that was a great time, most ppl are mid 12's with them.
tnord
03-22-2002, 12:23 PM
you've got a setup like that and you can't recognize detonation or the basic causes of it? man you musta paid a lot for all the installation of everything. anyway, that's besides the point. where did you get 114 octane unleaded? the highest i've ever seen is 110 unleaded and 115 leaded at the track. you got some deal with sunoco or somethin? cause i'm 99% sure you can't get 114 at the pump.

chill dude....yeah my comment may have been a bit out of line but at least it was controlled. and yes i have done all the work on my car myself. no i can't diagnose your problem. but i am still curious as to how you are getting a hold of this 114 octane. you go to the airport and fill up with jet fuel?

My freinds NA eclipse runs around 114 octane. I told him its dumb but he thinks it helps. he buys octane boosters.

COOL, as long as u apoligized, i am sorry too!! i was out of line and i dont like to have enemies. as for the 114. i live in ct. and the sunoco station hear i think sells like 108 or something like that. i buy a keg of 114 from my friend. he works at the connecticut sunoco distribution center in which sunoco can make(refine gas) to be 114, but they do not directly sell it. my friend and his friends know about this and he gets it some how.
i dont ask questions how he gets it but he gets it.
he also tells me that sunoco might be releasing the 114 for sale. but i dont know when.

yo boosted i heard that sometimes the big MSD injectors make a lot of noise. Also try checking the fuel press and if you know which cylinder it is coming from pull the plug wire out while the car is running to see if its actually detonation.damn its hard to detonate while in idle something must be really wrong or its something else. A spun bearing would cause that noise, but it wouldnt go away after 3k.Weird.......

Hmm... Im not a huge Viper fan.. but ther are incredibly fast cars... with the mods you say you've done, you may put up a good fight..(as long as you dont blow up your engine! But I think the viper is gona get you in the end... 10 cly's has WAY more torque, Im positive. If the viper guy can drive well, you're probly in trouble. It just comes down to driver skill, the launch, and power to weight ratio. Should be a cool race either way!

I saw a viper at a show...Had 2 screens, Mouse, Keyboard, 2 10inch subs in the trunk (it totally filled it, there was a screen in the back mounted on the lid that folded down) and subs behind the seats, it had so much interior work it was orgasmic...Prettymuch stock engine from what i could tell.
Anyways...that was a useless post...i just felt like sharing.
but yeah...if the viper guy is a good driver...you might be in a bitta trouble...but it could be a close race.
