Hi i just bought a 89 240sx fastback. I don't know much about them so don't go crazy flaming me. I was wondering which SR20DET most people put in the s13 body??? Should i just go with a s13 SR20 or the s14??? and should i go with red or black??? I have no idea what the difference is??? Oh and is there any way to get the letterings 240sx out on the rear windows.

1. the only way to change the writing is to change the windows
2. there are four SR motors S13 redtop (oldest) S13 Blacktop (newer motor but same mechanically) and the S14 Blacktop (variable valve timing) the S14 and the S15 (VTC T-28 IIRC bigger injectors)
3. you basically need to evaluate your priorities if you want and S13 motor the blacktops will usually have lower miles than the red tops. If you are planning on doing cams and other mods in the future i recommend the S13 because with the larger cams you have to remove the S14 VTC anyway...and the S15 motors are IMHO wayyyyy too expensive.
4. from here on out search first and ask questions later this site has most basic questions like this covered.

"Hi, I just read the new issue of ImPoRt TuNeR and can't believe how cool drifting is. I'd like to jump on the bandwagon myself since I'm a 16yr old troll with no ambition in life and love to follow others. Tell me everything I need to know is 20 words or less so I can go out and drift and street race and rule my local hometown because I'm so cool and hardcore."

What SR20?
You should get an RB36. That motor alone will make you drift, even when you don't want to. :keke:

I have a similar question, I'm a newbie too...
My friend Brian Spliner asked me which motor I was going to put into my 240 --- a Gallo 12 or a Gallo 24. Without hesitation, I choose the 24. No replacement for displacement, right? Did I make the wrong choice? ;)

Bah come on guys ha ha...
S13 Redtop is the most common SR swap into an S13, They can be bought for a pretty decent price.
But i think you should probaly do some research before buying an SR at all just so you know what exactly your doing and dealing with. Not knowing anything about the car or engine is the first step twords a dead car. Hell just do it for your own good if your gonna post here.

-word of advice hyperscrew99 just search this forum thoroughly, especially the FAQ and sticky threads. not to mention using the search button, some times key words will yield good results i.e. "godzira paint* *newbie questions* *sr vs. ka* blah blah

i agree. don't go with what "most" ppl do. go with what YOU want to do. and how you do that is find out what the differences are (there are plenty of FAQs, stickies, posts on this site) between the engines first, then think about what YOU want the car to do. and put 2 and 2 together.
