View Full Version : If you could have any wheel fitment....

And I mean starting from scratch... If you could have any wheel made that would fit your S13 or S14, what diameter, width, and offset would you go with? I'm asking because I'm a wheel designer for a major wheel manufacturer, and I want to do a wheel fitment specifically for our cars, and need to know what sizes and offsets everyone would want.
How does 17x8 30mm offset front and 17x9.5 30mm rear sound? 18's? lower offset, higher offset, different widths? This line should come out this summer, so any of your opinions on fitment are appreciated.

Well.. Alot of people like anything around 17'' (17 or 18'') for their S14's..

Same with S13 owners...

But there's a few of us that would like more selection in 4x114.3 15x7'' size (with +27-35mm offset).

Same with 16x7'' (or 16x8'') with that same offset range.

Not alot of those type of wheels running around.

(5-lug for those sizes would be fine too for those S14 owners that want smaller wheels, or S13's with 5-lug conversions)

I myself am not buying wheels (just picked up a set of teardrop alloys) for a while, so don't count on me. heh.. i just wanted to give you an idea for your wheel business

hahaha

but seriously, you can find a wheel in the offset you want...you just might not like the style, size, or price.
I just wish there were more options for us 4 luggers.

18x9.5, +2 and 18x11, +8. Perfect sizes.

Saw a set of Meister S2Rs just like that a week on a YahooJP. Most beautiful set of wheels I've seen to date.

i have been on hard search for any good 15x7 wheel. i wanted new but i can only find old school jdm wheels. but i think that a 15x7 in a +10-+15 is a nice fit. i am currently looking at getting a set of 15x8 wheels. but i still have to figure out what offset i would need. i don't want to run crazy camber. just something that will work well for auto-x. i would be guessing that on a 15x8 with a +15 would be nice but i am not too sure. any suggestions on what offset would make the wheels flush?

17x9.5 +18 (stupid volk only 22 or 12, nothing in between)

5 luggers have enough wheel options. If you want a ton of business from 240's, make 4 lug rims that are wide with low offset.

Being a S14(4 lug) owner, I would like to see something along the lines of 17x9/17x10 +20/+25 offset in 4 lug. As long as they are priced reasonably(see..."cheap" lol) and don't weigh too much, you will sell a bunch here.

S13 coupe, 5-lug swapped... My plans will not include anything larger than a 16 incher

16x8, 16x9, 17x8, 17x9 in 4 lugs with offset in 20-25 for the 8 inch wide rims and 25-30 for the 9 inch wide rims.... those are pretty conservative by zilvia's standards but good enough for me... FYI www.teamdynamicsracing.com makes 15x7 +30 wheels in 4 lug that are pretty reputable amongst miata ppl.

Thanks, everyone. This has helped quite a bit. Definatly doing low offset wide 4-lug apps, including common widebody fitments. Look for them in May, I'll post up when they come out!

i would buy a set if the price is right

15 inch would be too small for mee and 17 seems more heavy and also the tires for 17 cost more

so 16X8-8.5 with a low offset like 20 is perfect.

I'm so god damn sick of all you 4 lug people bitching. Jesus christ. Agreed, it would be better if all S chassis came 5 lug, but they didn't! There's an easy fix...... I'll let you guess what it is.

and what wheel company does " impactred " work for???? id like to see a wheel made for 4 & 5 lugs vehicles with great offset selections , that would accomodate z brakes, coil overs, ... so people wouldnt have to bitch about 5 lugs swaps, and z brake clearance issues....

I can't say at this moment in time, but you probably know of it. Sorry I'm being evasive about it now, but in a couple months I'll tell you guys when I'm able to.

Here are the fitments for 4-lug S13 and S14:
17x8.5 +22
17x9.5 +30
18x8.5 +25
18x9.5 +35

widebody: 18x8.5 +15
18x10 +0

5-lug S14:
17x9 +22
17x9.5 +22
18x9 +22
18x10 +20

This is only preliminary, but these should be the widest wheels you can fit under stock fenders, they will probably need rolling, but most people here have done that already. They will be flush with the top of the fender. But I appreciate all the input you guys are giving me, so keep it coming..

we own cars that are worth about 2 grand, maybe 4 in some cases

and then, lets just assume we dont have hook ups on 5 lug conversions

and i see alot of places selling 5 lug conversions for 300+ a pair

you need 2 pairs...so that comes out to 600 dollars

spending 600 dollars on something that only gives you more options for wheels isnt much of a wise financial decision

people have more things to pay for than their cars

RBS14

That's a bullshit justification.

So is it financially wise to put $10k into a car that is worth $2k? No. But when $500 of that $10K has to go to hubs, people bitch and bitch and bitch.

Price of SR front clips is closing in on $3000, yet people still buy them up faster than they can bring them over here.

Yet, spending $500 to get you the ability to put almost any wheel you want on your car is just absurd? You seem to forget that wheels are for more than just looks. A properly sized wheel with the correct offset will do just as much if not more for your car performance wise than any other mod.

I'm sick of this community. Why are 240 owners so damn cheap?!

Cool, I have taken this into account.
Is anyone interested in 19x10 rear 0 offset for show use on widebodies?

OptionZero
03-08-2005, 04:07 PM
Clarification:

For 17x9.5 +22 in the front of some s14's, you may hit the coilover because you obviously need to run some negative camber. A few more millimiters won't hurt.

With a 17x9, you need at least a +25 or less to clear coilovers (based on R33 GTR wheels with 245's on Nzo's old car)

Presumably, if you ran a 225 or something less of a tire...you could go much farther below +22 on a 17x9, probably below +15 as well.

why are they so cheap? people have other shit to pay for than their cars

do you think a guy who just bought a 2k dollar car has the money to not be cheap? chances are he bought it cuz he doesnt have alot of money in the first place

and dont try to show me all the people who have tons of money and drive s13's. cuz im speaking about the average person, the majority, not the few

I dont want to drop the 500-750 dollars that it will take for me to be able to run 17's with bling ass offset for deep lip. I just want decent offset, low weight wheels. Quit being a little bitch and whining about it. Sorry that I dont want to spend 500 dollars on something that has no performance advantage =)
