I work at Circuit City, in the computer Department (aka Soho). I work on commision, its great. West used to work at CC also, which is also way kewl. And i get bad ass discounts like 50% almost all car audio stuff. And i get an average of 15$ an hour, my checks are like 500$s and thats for like 4 days of work, which isent to bad for a 17 year old kid. And in the Summer Im thinking about work 2 jobs and working about 60 hours a week, so i can feed my need for speed, and mod the shit out of my vg30et (Hopfully vg34et at that time)

man, nothin but computer guys in here.......

i've been a detailer for the last 5 years during the summer. just talked to the GM yesterday and i'm getting promoted to help head up operations at a new lot we just bought. i'll be selling cars, still doing some detailing, working in finance departments, essentially be the lot manager, basically me and the other manager are starting a new car lot from scratch, but using the company's money. i'm pretty pumped about it, it puts me in perfect position to be a new/used car manager after i graduate in a year, and they make 60k+ a year. i ran into the owner of the local ferrari/porsche/lotus/lamborghini dealer at the auto show, and he told me they need people to help work track days, as well as at the shop doing various odd jobs, so i'll be pretty busy this summer, and making hella cash.

I'm curious as to what everyone's first job was, and how old they were when they got it? I started at 16 (actually spent my 16th bday filling out apps) working at Burger King. I was getting promoted to manager but I took a job at a small computer store and bailed. It's wierd to see where I am now vs. what I was doing 5 years ago.

* funny story *

I was in a local fast food joint talking to a friend about my working later that night. I was telling him to come by the drive thru and I would hook him up with food (I always gave my friends free food..kind of my way of getting back at B.K for not paying me overtime on a 100hr pay period..assholes). Well, the manager over hears us talking and says that I'm a horrible person and she wanted to know the Managers name. I had just gotten my keys so I go "I am the Manager and I agree with my position." LOL, she let it go

1st job, paper route baby, then for a while I put up entertainment grade tents (those huge ones for concerts and shit) I worked as a convenience store clerk, a little contract computer work, then I worked in Tool rental at home depot for a summer (that is fun stuff, but hard work) then I got my first computer job, quit and went somewhere else for more money and to be an ecommerce programmer, then I quit and got more money somewhere else (speedware) where I do just about anything to do with databases and programming you can imagine that is boring and time consuming... but it's all good, the money is good and I gotta say that I have such a long rope to run on here that I will probablyy run till I hang myself, which is ok with me one day I would like to move into the sales dept though... 2% commision on a few 100,000 - 1 million$ sales would really help my car a lot!

I have to agree with that. My first job was in a store, procesing lotto transactions, it was kind of like a stationary, I was getting paid like 4 bucks an hour than i went to mcdonalds, and started off at 5.50 and i was like YES, that money came in handy for new clothes and shit(and yeah, if somebody pissed me off, I'd make sure they would get some extra cum sauce on their burger, YUMMMMM). I was like 17 around that time. Then I worked in strauss, and made 6.50 an hour .....wait, wait, I keep moving up. Then I went to work in Dominoes. I delivered pizzas with my first car, the 90 chevy cavalier(god, i loved that car, many memories, much sex went on in that car) where the base pay was 5.40 but i always came home with like 50-80 a day so that made my average salary about 10-12 bucks an hour. The cavalier unfortunately blew the head gasket so then i got the 240 and didn't want to work there anymore cause I would be abusing it because of the frequent stopping and starting, so i had to use it for like 3 months before I found the bank job that I am at right now. I also did little things when I was younger like mow lawns but that doesn't count so yeah, thats it

When I was 16, I got a job at a Kmart by my house during the summer and worked there for a year and a half. Yes, THAT long. I was unemployed for the rest of my senior year in high school in 99 all the way until October of that year. Then I worked part-time for World Savings (it's a bank) in Hayward as a teller for a 14 months. I got paid like...$7.25 an hour doing teller work and opening accounts. It kinda sucked knowing that I could be paid more elsewhere doing less for another bank, but I liked my co-workers and my hours (Fri-Sat only). Then I quit January of last year so I could pursue a project with some friends and a guy I was referred to who owns a small multimedia design business. I made $10 an hour under the table scanning images and retouching them on Photoshop as well as doing a little multimedia design work on other programs like AfterEffects, Flash, and Illustrator. I was starting to learn a lot of stuff there. However, the business fell through last summer and all of us got dropped.

Near the end of that summer, I worked part-time for a law firm doing data entry in San Francisco, which was a couple blocks from my school's main building, working Thursdays and Fridays. The pay was around $13 an hour. It was great because I just sat there entering names, abbreviations, and numbers while listening to my hip-hop and J-pop CD's. However, they also had me relieve my friend (who referred me to the job) for his breaks. Sure, I thought a couple hours handling the phone lines would be okay. Boy was I wrong. Alright, I can handle like...10 different lines and redirect people to them, but this system had around TWENTY different lines since every fucking person in the firm had a number. Eventually, I got fired. If it weren't for the damned phones, I would have done decently on that job. However, my friend told me that one of the reasons why I got dropped was the fact that I was going online during work when actually, I was just checking up on a few things while I was working and kept the web browser open. Ah well, I made the mistake, so I got punished for it. Too bad no one told me to my face as to what really went wrong. I came to work one day all happy, then the boss just tells me, "Sorry to say this, but we're gonna have to let you go. I guess it just didn't work out.", then gave me my last paycheck and I left. I even left my computer speakers there and never bothered coming back to pick it up. That was the first time I ever got fired and the first time someone told me my work wasn't good enough since I was so used to compliments and accomplishments I've gotten with World Savings.

Now I'm just in my 3rd year at the Academy of Art College in SF majoring in New Media. I've been trying to get a job. I've been dicked around for the past few months and now I'm being dicked around again. Wells Fargo's supposed to set me up with an interview, but their regional employment manager keeps frontin' on the interview times and I already had an in-branch interview in January, which I wanted 3 fucking weeks afterwards only for them to tell me the position is taken. Heh, looking for a job sucks, especially if I'm trying to deal with Wells Fargo. If I had a job, I wouldn't be driving my ghetto ass 92 Integra. Boo-hoo, cry for me. I think I'll just go back to my old job at World Savings, maybe the pay is better now. My friend who I used to work with and showed him the ropes is now the SUPERVISOR. So I'm gonna talk to him about getting my old job back. It's been so long, I think he's the only person I know that's still there.

This fucking server is a whore, I'm having a problem even posting a damn message.

I'm currently working as a student intern for Sun Microsystems Network Storage PR. I've been here for a little over a year now and hopefully, I'll be able to get a job after I graduate. My first job was at Longs Drugs as a stockboy and cashier making 5.25 an hour. Even though the pay was shiet, that was the funnest job I've ever had. We'd always take the beer and start drinking and playing whiffle ball in the back warehouse. We even had a water gun fight in the store. damn, Those were the days!

I work at a fine dining restraunte called YiaYia's Euro Cafe in Memphis TN. I make pretty good money there but put in a hell of alot of hours. I am currently also a full time student at the U of M. I use to program and network alot, I got my MSCE and my Cisco certification(thanks to my uncle who works for them). I was kinda unhappy with the whole computer field as far as the people I worked with. I was pretty good in it so they put me in the nerd sector where guys go home on saturday night and play their new video game instead of going out drinking raising hell like they should. The money was really good but in the end I found that I was happier being a waiter/bartender.

Lets see, My first job was at a little store on Base in Japan when I was 15. Real easy job and mainly we all just messed around playing and stuff. That lasted for about 1 year, then my racing kicked in. Started with a small sponsership then moved up to a full time deal. That lasted till I was about 19 then the doctors told me to get off the bike and quit racing. (Got hurt real bad doing a photoshoot off some cliffs here in San Diego)

BAD!!! Knocked myself out for 30mins...... Had to go to the hospital and shit...... Doctors told me my body was tore up from all the racing and sports I did growing up. His words were "Your body is srewed. The X-rays look like they came from a 35 year old NFL player not a 18 year old kid. Get off the dam bike before you kill yourself."

So I quit 3 weeks later and took up racing sprint cars. Did that for 4 years.

There is nothing like the sound of your ankles and knees poping in the morning.

I supposedly am a computer tech for UPS, but actually my job consists of sitting in a strange room and having people yell at me over a radio, phone or in person.

Also supposedly a student.

The only thing I hate about school is that it's like window shopping at a ferrari dealership. There's all kinds of girls I want to ride but can't (got a gf). Fun to look at though.

Everyone else is going into depth of their work history, and I am bored so I will to.

First I had a paper route for the Omaha World Herald. Can't remember how long I did that, but too long at any rate. My second job was something a little more interesting, I would would 60 hours a week threw the summer, painting schools for Bellevue Public School district, Very happy with the cash at the time. I was only making $4.25. Shit that was a lot of money at the time. i then started working at the lawn and garden center at shopko making $5.05. I then got transfered into the store working in the electronic department, same pay rate. I then started college and transfered to the back of the store to receiving making $6.43. Then got on full time making $7.50, same department. I then quit shopko and work for PayPal. Doing a little tech support and customer service. You may have heard of them, they are very big with Ebay. Worked for them for a year and a half. They even sent my ass to India to train some people for outsourcing. That was the best 3 weeks of the whole job. Quit there cause it sucked pretty bad. Althought I was making $13.82. I went back to shopko taking a lead position for $10 an hour, while I try to finish school.

My first job was at 12 building computers, and giving tech support for computer classes.

nowadays i'm a test subject for a northern california bio-lab. the needles don't hurt as much as they used to, but that third thumb on my chest means i'll have to wear button up shirts from now on. my living space is a 10 by 10 cage which is quite comfy except that when the lab guys throw the food in, the rats have strength in numbers. every other wednesday they let me out into society where i spend most of my time on my car and whats left of it on zilvia.net. on thursday they take me back, which i wouldn't mind so much, but those tranquilizer darts are so long and sharp. Oh well in another 4 months i'll finally be able to buy one of those little air fresheners in the shape of an airplane that clip to the air vents. see you all in two weeks!

Not to mention see cool cars that are flown here for testing. Ive lots of cool pics of our planes and shite if anyones interested.

well, in the air force you don't get OT...i usually work 14 hour days, 5 days a week...but always try to leave my work at work...but hey, i'm proud of my $900 a month...ack!

ha ha - that's not funny uu! 50-60 hours a week and you're the hardest working person you know?! At 100/week, I know people who work harder (holy sh!t - the math says I work 100 hours/week! )

It's been getting worse... with continued 7 day weeks, I'm now at about 16+ hour days! Someone told me long ago that if you are into working just for the money, be a plumber! Those guys make overtime, time 1/2, double time, holiday pay... all that stuff. And their base salary is pretty high too!

Of course, it's not $900/month - but I don't get any supplements for housing and necessities... and I have a student loan payment roughly equal the the GNP of Argentina I know it's not much, but I hope our Uncle takes care of you guys in other ways (GI Bill, etc.) - b/c I know they pay is almost poverty line for some hard work.

*edit - I use too many of () and !! and always get the winky face. *

Ok, I have to throw some stuff into this one
I'm in the Army, I'm a M1A1 Tank mechanic, we work day or night, outside. Sometimes we even have month long training excercises in the middle of the Cali. Desert with no-days off, and like maybe a 4 day weekend after we return. OR the lovely 6 month deployments to babysit Albanians because them and the Serbs that they've been neighbors with for years have decided they want to kill each other. I've been in for 4 years, I make a whooping $1500 a month after Uncle Sam takes his cut back, I don't get any Housing allowances because I get the "privledge" of living in Government family housing aka "the Ghetto" I was in Kosovo for 6 months of last year, which means no taxes, family seperation pay, hazardous duty pay, and a few others minimal addons, and I still didn't make over $20,000 for the year.
I've been told many times that the Air Force takes better care of it's soldier as far as standards of living and all that.
As far as the benefits, you can take the Army health care system and shove it. I won't even get into that.
Oh and you have every business around the base trying to rip you off because you have a guaranteed monthly check! Especially Car dealers.
Sorry, little vent there. Not saying anyone's job is easy.
And yes, there are some hot women in the Army, just not many.

Anyway, my first job was working in the produce section of an IGA (It's a grocery store for those who don't know the name, used to be all over the east coast)
