Hey guys, just wondering if the s14 manual ECU was needed to do the 5 speed swap. Ive read around and it doesnt seem like you need it. But my friend said that I do need it and he is helping me do the swap. Is it really needed? Thanx

Its not needed to make it run, but it will throw some auto tranny code i believe. And if u have a CEL you cant smog.

um also if u have a auto tranny ecu u wont have a speed limiter

If you have a '96 or above (OBDII) I believe you will need the 5spd ECU.

Nope. Auto works fine.

i am a noob but only to this forum and to 240sx's...

so i guess i have to refrase myself, what kind of code would a transmission throw to cause the car not to pass smog. like is it makeing the car run to rich? i also read in another forum that using the auto ECU would cause the car to have trouble with cold starts but would clear up after the engine reacher operating temp.

let say it easier for you i guess. what sensors are reading bad on the auto ECU on a 5speed swap???

like i said, im new to 240's and was just wondering.

If you have a cell you won't pass even if the problem is minor like the rear O2 sensor.

I did a swap in my 97

Left Auto ECU and threw some AT code. Can't remember and didn't really care since I put in a 95 Manual. It was somewhere in the 100's though.

After I put in the 95 I threw a code for the rear 02. I didn't really care about that either cause later I put in a 96 JWT ECU and no codes at all. You could also use an older O2 or one from a sentra to get rid of that code.

The only cold start issue I had was when I first cranked it. It would start and about 75% of the time die right there. All I'd have to do is tap the gas once and it was golden.

Here is a list of codes you can get from the AT. I only got one of them but can't remember as stated above.

Inhibitor Switch 111 AT
Vehicle Speed Sensor A/T 112 AT
A/T 1st Signal 113 AT
A/T 2nd Signal 114 AT
A/T 3rd Signal 115 AT
A/T 4th Signal or TCC 116 AT
Shift Solenoid/V A 118 AT
Shift Solenoid/V B 121 AT
Overrun Clutch S/V 123 AT
TOR Conv clutch SV 124 AT
Line Pressure S/V 125 AT
Throttle Position Sensor A/T 126 AT
Engine Speed Signal 127 AT
Fluid Temp Sensor 128 AT

I have an auto ecu in my 97 manual swapped car. When the weather is warm, you need to tap the gas when you start the car so the idle wont fall to 0 and turn off the car. When it's cold out, it works fine.
