IMO, it depends on what your car has to it.  If it's completely stock, or just cosmetically changed, then yes.  On the other hand, if you have a turboed KA, or an engine swap (SR or CA), and the car has the goods, then I don't think so.  I feel as if you damn well better be able to back up the Silvia badge though, so just a "basic" swap, or turboed KA, doesn't cut it.  It's something I wouldn't do personally, if anything, I'm going to shave all of them off.

no matter what you do it will never be a silvia. even if you put the sr in there it will only be a 200sx still not a silvia. silvias are only right hand drive thats the way i look at it. im proud to have a 240. anyways it use to be the in thing to do is to place silvia emblems i think its old now.
what u can do is shave the emblems and if you get a nice aero kit make people figure out what it is....thats always fun

Ask yourself this question:

If I put a b18c5 (or even a CTR b16) into my Civic and put a Type R logo on it, would it be rice?  What if I didn't even have the motor?

Personlay, i would only do the sivia badge if i had like a coupe and did an s13 converson and the sr20det swap and got alot of the stock s13 parts and used those, then i would find it ok, or if u put a skyline engine in your car i would say you can put the gt-r emblem on, what im personaly going to do is get the vg30et (im waiting for it to be deliverd) and bore it out to 3.4l, and get the 180SX lights, and in the middle get a crome emblem made that says 340SX, but its not the stock vg34et, it will have every performace part imanginable, im hoping to get about 400HP running in it before i get the emblem, so it will be able to stand up to its rep, my 340sx will rule the day

I think its Rice.

I would only put the cool red lightnong bolt on the front of my hood(95) and thats just because I like the bolt, but it still isn't a silvia unless it has the SR or CA motor and right hand drive.  Just MHO!   <img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/eh.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':eh:'> I aslo wouldn't even put the bolt on my car until I had a SR, but thats just me.

Honestly, If you get any emblem that's real I think it's cool... you are the one who looks like an ass if you get smoked and your car says type r or silvia... all that I hate is when people get some lame S or lame R and tack it onto whatever they have. I saw a guy with a base model s14 and he had tacked on the SE in these big stupid looking stickers. That is rice and that is lame. Other than that, do what you want, I don't mind the civic's who have an SIR or SI badge from another honda... to me rice is anything that looks totally out of place, not nice smooth cosmetic differences that add something to your cars appearance... I would love to have mine silvia badged, if for no other reason than those lightnigh bolts looks really cool. This whole rice thing is over rated... rice is all about poor taste, you do anything in good taste, and it's not rice, it's just you expressing yourself through your car... there is nothing wrong with that, ever.

For those who say that an engine determines wheather or not your car is a Silvia or that a left hand drive cannot be a Silvia, wouldn't that also mean that if you put an RB engine into your 240sx, it would be ok to call it a Skyline or if you Imported an R34 form Japan but made it LHD, if would no longer be a Skyline because they don't make LHD skylines?

IMO, people should do what they want or what they think looks good, rice or not. I am getting a Silvia front end on my car and because it says Silvia on the grill between the lights. I imagine I will put the S15 script emblem on the back. Not because I think it will majically make my car a silvia or an S15 or faster or anything, I just think it would be tacky to have 240SX on the back and Silvia on the front. On the same note, anyone who thought my car was any of those things because of the badging would be damn stupid. Others may think that is more tacky but I'm not others so it works for me. Anyone who knows anything about our cars know there is no possible way (or at least highly unlikely) it could be a real Silvia. So I know I wouldn't be fooling anybody nor would I be trying to. <img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/thumbs-up.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':thumbsup:'>

Actually since the "200" designates a 2.0L engine, Isn't it more of a 180SX than anything since you have the 1.8L?

the way i see it putting silvia on your car isnt the same as putting Type R on your car. Silvia is the name of a car, Type-R is a spec/trim level of the car. it is ricey to "upgrade" the trim level of your car, even if you have all of the authentic parts from that trim level, its better to just shave your badges. but I think if you had say, an s13 coupe and put an s13 front on it (and sr20, of course, if you just put the front and not the engine theres probably somethign wrong with you), its ok to use all of the original silvia badges. the market section of the world the car came from doesnt decide what the car actually is, if you ask me

As long as it's not one of those dumbass plastic "NISMO" or "GTR" emblems or some crap from Tenzo-R, you're fine. It's just the S15 bolt anyway.  Not like too many people are gonna notice that it's from an S15, let alone knowing what the hell a Silvia is. hell, the Impreza owners put the pink STi Subaru star badge on their cars even though they're driving 2.5 RS's or basic WRX's, it's not like it's something overly obvious to know it's "poseurism".

okay, maybe I missed it...
but no one seems to have touched on probably the biggest flaw in putting a silvia badge on a 240...

IT'S NOT A SILVIA!
That of course has been said... BUT... people have been saying, "Maybe it wouldn't be rice if you had a SR20..."...

the fact remains, it's an s13, not 14 or 14a... that means it's got pop-up headlights and corresponding fascia.... that my friends is a 180sx is the JDM world, not a Silvia... so I suppose you could put a 180sx emblem (which I guess would only be the old tails and the rear quarter window markings), and be less poser-like.

but a 240hatch with a silvia emblem is just RICE plain and simple.  Putting badging of the wrong car on yours... like idiots who put Civic Type-R on their ex/dx/hx/blah...

okay, maybe not that bad, but u get the idea

thats not the same.  An RB in a 240 is a hybrid.  The Silvia and 240 share the same chasis and genetically is its fraternal twin.  The Skyline would be Brother.  Transplanting that motor into the 240 is like putting Billys heart into Johnnies Chest and calling Johnny, Billy for the rest of his life.

Good goobaly woobaly!  I don't know about that one!  Ok, the reason why some people feel as if it's ok to do the Silvia badge is; it's the same car (actually, they aren't, but that's what soo many people think).  There are differences, that's true, but all in all, with the acception of the engine, and other slight differences (most notably, the RHD), they are the basically same car.  So, once you transplant the engine, they are becoming more and more alike, with very slight differences to mention, even so the fact still remains that they are different cars.  
Ok, as for the trim level thing, wouldn't you think that it's less ricey to badge a car for a different trim level (so long as you upgrade to that trim level), than it is to badge it an entirely different car altogether?  I mean, let's put it this way, I have a 240sx, but I transplant an exotic Ferarri engine in it (who said they had to be from the same company?  the same concept applies, this just makes it clearer), can I now dub that car a Ferrari???

I think its cool to replace the emblems on your car, I like Silvia better then 240SX. Using the Silvia emblem or the sheild emblem for your car is ok, regardless of specs or if its compelety stock. However I would not use the "SpecR" emblem that comes from the S-15. This would be would rice and following the TypeR or SiR crowd. IMO I think Nissan should have used the Silvia title for the S-chassis cars all over the world. The only seperation between the cars would be the chassis name and emblems such as "K's", "Q's", "LE", and "SE". It would save some money (for me to get an emblem), name calling and give my car a name that is easier for other people to remember.

If you want to put silvia badges on your car you don't need to ask anybody, just do it.  Just don't start going crazy and put a type R sticker in the window and a chevy bowtie on the front hood then get a GTR emblem on the side or some off the wall crap like that.  hell, its your car do whatever you wanna do with it.  Me personally I would keep the car emblem free, but thats just me................................................ ......

That's actually why I love that board - I check the Comp forum all the time (well, that and it is the largest collection of import roadracers in the mid-Atlantic states).  

For the record, I never called anything rice - I just said if you think it is true for the Honda crowd - it is true for us.

I have a Silvia and the only Badges I have are the rear Nissan Emblem.

I am all for putting the lightning bolt on my car.  And the s15 script Silvia.  I have 2 reasons.
1)  It looks better.  2)  So much easier to say than "'96 240sx"... "'96 Silvia"
I will have a turbo, and huge power.  But if someone else doesn't like it... they can kiss off... cuz I do.  Everyone should feel that way.  Some people don't like subwoofers.. but if you do, put 'em in!

lol..  jeff u rule... i feel the same way.. ive just never got mad enough to say it... i hate it when people do that..  they are just like posting on a forum for the hell of it saying they are gonna get a 240sx one day.. but then they just tell you how to do yours and if something is ricey... and there is not one person on earth that would make me not do something to my car that i want to do...

its got a s15 front end.. so its getting a s15 hood emblem... and its getting its sr soon..
