Hey guys, I repainted some wheels that I bought off of ebay. They are 17x8 +35 offset rims that was really cheap and I needed them to complete my 5 lug conversion. I repainted them using plaste-kote paint products and Duplicolor engine enamel clear. The process was, sandblast, prime(3 coats), paint (5 coats), and clear (3 coats of plaste-kote lacquer and 3 coats of duplicolor.) To me, the job was a little long ( 4 days) due to weather conditions and going to work but it came ok to me. what you guys think?

u just used normal gold spray paint for metal from Walmart on 300zx wheels. They came out great.
The key is prepping the surface right.

Agreed. Here's my work. Tons of sanding, primer, metallic spray paint, and clear coat gets you this:

should have saved up to lower that car instead of wasting money on paint.
I have a set of infiniti mesh i want to do this to, did you use your own sandblaster or how did you get that done?

thanks for the tip.... yea, i do plan on suspension work, thats being taken care of right now(well the fanancial part is). and I only spent 30 bucks on paint stuff and I used my own sandblaster; so it wasnt much of a lost to my wallet.

hey, I used my own sandblaster on the front wheels. The paint came off with ease. And for the rears, I used the sandblaster at first but didnt stick to it because the sand got moisture in it and would clog up the air lines. I sanded them down by hand. The rears were brand new cobra rims and it was kind of tuff to sand them down by hand, but all it took was patience.

thanks, I had the same thought when I was searching for rims.... I really wanted to get bronze fn01rc's but, being a college studen, I couldnt afford those...but those are next on my list and i'm sure the paint finish on those are way better then what I did(since, this was the 1st time painting rims).

Lots of prep and light coats is definatly the key for good results from rattle cans. Here are some 5zigens I spray painted gold.

No bigger pics, I only used those wheels as track spares a couple times then sold em, they were crap sizes, 17x7.5 and 17x8+35 :ghey:
As far as prep, I progessivly sanded them first, then used m.e.k. cleaner. Applied 2 or 3 coats of rustoluem clean metal primer, around 4-5 coats metallic gold paint (forgot what brand), and 2-3 coats of clear. I rushed it at first and got runs and thick spots for applying too much paint too quick, so I had to sand it back down and start over, so patience and numerous light coats is the key.
