Right now I'm using the stock unit, but around spring time I plan to change my clutch. I don't have any insane HP mods (yet) and when I go KA-T...i would like 250rwhp at the most. Anywho...I just wanted to know what clutch people are currently using and if they can give me any feedback about it. I also would like to know if your car is daily driven, tracked, or both.

TIA

ACT Stage 1 is perfect. I've used for ~35k miles, 6-7 auto-x, 2 Road Courses, daily driver. Daily grind is 285-~330hp (11psi - 15psi) and it holds strong. It's starting to slip on me though so I have upgrade.

Russ made an interesting point that the ACTs are designed around the OEM flywheel. Companies like SPEC, UR, Clutchmasters design their KA clutches around their lighweight flywheels. Not sure how much importance this plays in the end but it's something to consider and research.

Maxtype 240 - Thanks for the tip on the flywheel. I was thinking of getting a flywheel with whatever clutch I get...but if you say the ACT stage I works with the stock unit it can same me the hassle of finding air tools to remove the flywheel (those bolts are a mofo IMO).

God, those bolts broke 3 impact wrenches and wouldnt come off for a resurfacing, so we left it alone.

+1 for act, its on a car locally, the pedal is slightly firmer, but no slippage at all!

Sorry for the thread jack, but what does everyone think about Excedy OEM replacement clutches?

i'm running a spec S3 on a stock KA.
bought it when planning on a turbo swap - turbo never happened, but i love the clutch - it's smooth, has a slightly heavy pedal, and a very positive engagement (but i would hope that with 1/2 the quoted power level)

Exedy.

slips like crazy. won't use it again. luckily i'm not drifting right now because of work, so I can just live with it until I can get some weekends off, which won't be for a while.

What about one thats not gonna be destroying his clutchand just driving normally?

My friend has a Exedy cera-metallic 3 puck high pad and clutch kicks that thing all day on his SR. GOOOOD clutch. If you guys are using OEM exedy, step it up a notch.

I'll be trying out the Illegal Garage or RPS max 6 puck on a ka-t setup, depending on how pricing and support go.

I think it's good practice to have the flywheel resurfaced so your clutch makes perfect contact. Look into this.

I didn't find the flywheel bolts hard to get w/ an impact gun. Worst case, just use PB Blaster.

I actually use a Fidanza flywheel, it's the 2nd best mod on my car. My comment was to highlight the R&D process of the diff. companies. I'm sure clutches designed around lightweight flywheels are better in some fashion? Waiting for someone smarter to chime in...

PS - Does Exedy even make performance clutches for our 225mm applications? I didn't see any.

I dont think exedy does, i didnt see any either when shopping. I have the basic ACT Street/Strip setup, it sees only 7 psi from t3/04 KAT but holds great for the auto-x's and rough daily drive i put it through. DEFFINITLY resurface your flywheel.
