ok, so my gastank has a crack in it and its seaping gas. im too lazy to take off the exhaust, diff, driveshaft, and drop entire subframe to pull out the gas tank so im gonna cut open the rear seating area and patch up the crack from there.
what do you think would be better to use to seal the crack on the gas tank? jbweld or epoxy??

You must have an S14. Replaced one for a buddy of mine, took awhile...
I'd suggest using Liquid Nails exterior polyurethane. I think it will sustain against the elements better than epoxy will. If JB Weld will adhere though, go with that!

so how long did it take you do change the gas tank?
so you would recommend jb weld over liquid nails?

yeah, s13 is no prob. you would think theyd make it more "mechanic-friendly" on an s14 but nooooo. bastards.

i had a leak on mines, we used some crushed soap bar, and applied it on there, then used some plastic sealer i think, its been like 4 -5 months and its holdin up fine.

update: the leak was caused by a thin crack. looks to be like a stress crack.
used: plastic bag that we accidentally melted onto the crack. epoxy putty over it and a whole lotta jb weld.
hopefully it holds... at least for a little while until i go fuel cell.

I was in the same position as you about four months ago. But my crack was where you couldnt get to it on the top front. Bought a tank from the junkyard for $90 (dealership wanted $450+tax), and it took me by myself about a day and a half. Talk about a bitch!!! Thank God for air tools! Luckily I was putting on new catback and coilovers at the same time.

would a crack in the gastank cause the whole cabin to smell like gas? My car smells like gas only on the inside and i have no idea what to troubleshoot. Perhaps the gaskets of the fuel entry in the trunk? (s14 btw)
thanks

^^^check your hardlines and check your fuel pump, i had a little crack in one of the hoses and i smelled gas in the cabin too. there's a lot of info about gas leaks if you search also.

i just replaced the inspection gasket ring but it still smells a bit like gas, not as bad as before though. How do you check the hard lines?
