View Full Version : My JGTC Gallery (professional quality I hope!)

I've gotten some great reception here and on a few other forums in the past, so I'll just keep with the tradition and post up some of my favorite images from JGTC.
JGTC was incredible to watch - the technology behind these vehicles is positively astounding! Although I did feel the setup for D1 was, well, "different." If anything, it was safer - but also high speed, but not comparable to past events at Irwindale IMO.
Pix were taken with Canon EOS20D & Digital Rebel + a variety of lenses, mostly the 18-55 and the 70-200 IS.
Special thanks goes out to Sport Z Magazine for allowing me the opportunity to shoot portions of the event for them.
If anyone is interested in high res versions, or would like to inquire about commercial use, feel free to email me at: friscomgm AT yahoo.com
Enjoy!

Thx for all the compliments guys. For flash I was using the Canon 420EX Speedlight, although I only used it for fill and NEVER shot the cars in motion with it - you really do not want to blind JGTC drivers, or drifters for that matter. :)

hey frisco, i know this is kind of off topic but what would be the best camera to purchase for a beginner...but still retain great quality pics. Maybe something above 5 megapixels? I'm clueless when it comes to cameras.

It really depends on whether or not you'd like to stick to point and shoot or move to a more professional type system (interchangeable lenses, etc).
I started off with a Canon Powershot, moved to a Sony F series (F828 would be a great beginners camera), then Canon Digital Rebel, and finally Canon EOS20D.
Right now the Sony F828 has a lot going for it, and an especially great movie mode @ 640x480 @ 30fps. I'd recommend it for a beginner who is eager to step right up to the prosumer level stuff.
If you feel really ambitious, the Canon Digital Rebel is a good beginners camera, but you really should have a good feel for photography before jumping into a DSLR system.

great quality pics, how much did that camera cost you? all my pics of the JGTC race were a blurrr. i wanted to take pics of the racecars braking so their rotors would glow on the pics...but they were going too fast to take them.

I was thinking along the lines of a Canon A95 or powershot g6, im not really interested in the movie modes just great quality pictures like the ones you took but around 300-400 dollars. Any suggestions?

GREAT PICS MAN.... Glad you can post them to the site. Please post everytime you take some!
Oh, and about that motor, it is a new Titan motor. I talked to the Nissan/Nismo Rep. It's supercharged and full of other "experimental" parts. I asked for an HP figure and he said he couldn't say yet. It was fresh out of the engine building room and hadn't had a chance to be dyno'd yet.

I was there, yes, it's a titan/pathfinder armada motor. I believe it's a VQ56DE, but I could be wrong.
It also has a supercharger (in case that wasn't obvious enough) ;)

Titan motor is VK45DD, isn't it? Or is that only in the M45? By the way, is it possible to save pictures from that gallery? I want to use a couple as backgrounds.
