I was cehcking out the search, and noticed every one says its to dangerous if you mount them to the back seat belt bolts, because the angles will be to low, and can cause back damage. BUt i was checking out some option video, and noticed most of the d1 drivers had there racing hanresses mounted to the back seat belt bolts, with a low angle so why are they mounting it this way if it is so dangerous?

maybe because they are professional drivers and they dont crash lol jj :cj:

to tell you the truth though, i have no idea. I got my momo 4 point harnesses hooked up by my local speed shop because he was telling me not to hook them up at the back of the seats. he mounted them to the the frame between the rear strut towers!

I didn't know cars entered in D1 could compete without a rollbar/cage? If youve read the prior posts about harnesses then you know why you should mount the harnesses properly to avoid compression of the spine, maybe if you did see a D1 driver doing that he just didn't care. But just because someone else does that even a pro, doesn't mean Im going to have enough disregard for my own safety to do such a thing.

There are plenty of resources on what is regarded to be the most effective mounting techniques. NASA's website has a decent PDF which explains in pretty good detail how to mount a harness. That would be a great place to start.

good lord, if you searched you would see that everytime this topic comes up.... i say....

SCHROTH RECOMMENDS YOU USE THE BACK SEAT BELT MOUNTING POINTS ON THEIR 4 POINT HARNESS

since schroth is one of or the only dot legal belts, just fucking do it that way....theres a reason theyre a factory option in bmws in europe

Schroth recommends it because that's how their harnesses WERE DESIGNED!!!

For EVERY other harness manufacturer it is recommended to mount the shoulder restraints within 5-10 degrees of horizontal straight back from where the belt meets your shoulders.

A few other random points:
-if you're running harnesses without a rollbar (Except for schroth harnesses), have fun dying in a rollover accident
-if you're running on the street, schroth is the only technically legal harness for use
-if it's a race car, do whatever you want, but for your own safety, do it properly.

i didnt think people who wanted a race harness would buy anything but schroth or takata or willans

but then again i forgot in the form over function world people will buy some sweet apc harnesses

Even if they get a takata or willans, you still have to mount it properly, which is different than properly mounting a schroth harness.

That said, you don't need to spend $200-300 dollars for the bling factor of a takata or willans harness. Simpson harnesses are every bit as good, and every bit as legal for all sanctioning bodies, and cost under $100 for a 5 or 6 point camlock harness.

Proper mounting points for a MK2 Golf. Not a 240sx, but still just gives you an idea. 45º and 180º are safe mounting points if you aren't going to use a harness bar/cage/etc.

I have a simpson 3" 5 pt harnes. Its just as capable as a tanaka or scroth. I mounted the shoulder belts to the centermost seatbelt mount on the drivers side. works fine and is super easy to install that way. as for running a harnes and no roll cage being dangerous. wtf. if you roll your car your fu*ked. harness or not. keep it rubber side down.

Install it how the manufacturer recomends it to be installed. dont run them on the street though thats just not safe.

in a rollover situation, the seatbelts in a regular vehicle are designed to give, so you can flex and not get smashed by the roof as badly...it allows you to fall down into the wheel well more and gives area for you to move the fuck out of the way of the ensuing roofline

with a harness and no roll bar, you're tied upright, similar to being tied to a tree. now imagine if the roof collapses...you have no room to give, so you'll be smashed along w/ the seat and anythign that tries to impede the roofs collapse

rear seat belt bolts are ok, it aint gonna kill you. FIA allows harnesses to be mounted like this. Personally i like them mounted to my harnessbar, less stretch in the belts if i krash.
