I'm 25, not married, live in a somewhat large city, and I pay $1300/year for medium-high full coverage on my 96 SE.

Another reason why our cars have somewhat high insurance rates is the theft factor and the cities we live in. The larger the city, the higher your insurance rates will be. The more prone to theft your car is, the higher your rates will be also, in addition to your age, parents' multi-car discount (if available), your driving record, year and value of your car.

yeah, that's true. My insurance company won't even give me a discount for getting an alarm because it's such a small city that I live in.

i'm 17 and i pay $85 a month for full coverage for my 1990 s13.. it's rated as a sport car.. but they car more about the year, than the status of the engine..go with an s13.. they are cheaper and use the money u had for the s14, and turbo it

I don't know what company you were looking at Nismo ka55, but the 240sx is not exactly a sports car. My insurance company rated it as a sub-compact. you should shop around, and if they keep telling you that the 240 is a sports car tell them that it's really a "sub compact". Sh!t some company tried telling my gf that they were going to charge her sports car insurance price for her cavalier (Z-24), because its a coupe with a bodykit on. So look around for another insurance company!

My car is under my mother's name, liability only <-- is that illegal for me to drive it around?? whatever, Jersey is one of the worst state for car insurance, gotta go around the system.

Nismo, you should really ask the people in your state, they have different rates.

Im 24, male...no accidents or tickets. I have a base 93 hatch...no ABS or airbag.....and I pay $75 per month for full coverage and a $50,000 life policy. I get a multi policy discount....so I get that life policy (normally $11/mo for $2). I used to be on my parents insurance, then when I went out and got my own....I stayed with the same company (State Farm)...and they gave me credit for being a 3+ year member (even tho it was my parents who were the primary holders). Just make sure you stress BASE MODEL to them...and if ABS or airbag was available THAT YOU HAVE THEM. Also, living in a "metropolitan" area will increase your rates. If you are like 21 or under...and male.....you're screwed...sorry. Your best bet is to have the car titled in your parents name...and have it on their insurance. I think S13's will be cheaper that S14's....because there were more of them produced. 97-98's will be the hardest to get parts for...since there were so few produced.

Lauren was right on w/ some of the reasons ins. rates differ. But, probably more important that theft for the 240, is the cost of repairs and the region you live in. Here, in metro DC (bad traffic + weather + lots of people), the average car is in a wreck something like once every three years The s14 is one of the more expense cars to fix in a 10-15 mph frontal collision (I forgot the number - but it's HIGH!.

Now, for around here, figure $2500 in damage every three years = premiums must start at about $833/yr just to break even on the comprehensive collision (your car). Doesn't even account for operational costs, profits, and other claims (damage to the other person's car, theft, personal injury). All these things and more have to factor into what you pay for insurance. That's why a good driving record is so vital - it takes you off the "average" curve and moves you into "lower risk."

For luey and others: when you go around the system, you are only screwing yourself in the long run and all of us in the short run. Ins rates in NJ are so high for a reason - b/c the risk is that great. By moving onto someone else's policy, you help drive the rates for the whole region/state up so everyone else pays more for the risk you create (it's a balance for the ins. co). In the long run, loopholes like that will piss you off as some (not you personally) "bad driving kid" drives up your rates.

For the record - 28, unmarried, one ticket in 1998, no accidents, been driving since 1988, 300/500 full coverage +, live in a dangerous area, don't drive to work = $1200/ yr w/ GEICO.

Definatley shop around with insurance. the rates are sooo different with various companies. As for the 240 being rated as a sports car that isn't right. It is a four cyclindar car with four seats. Plus airbags and all should help keep the price down. I pay high insurance but it's because of my coverage. lowest deductable poss/full coverage against theft, accident, uninsuured motorists, premium body shop repair, etc...sorry I'll end it now. good luck!

im 18 with an 89 240 coupe. rate is 68 dollars for 8 months on AAA liability no tickets no accidents also on good student discount. but im not sure if my name is on it or my dads but he has no tickets but has only one accident but it wasnt his fault. also on the pink slip it says that i bought my car for only 50 bucks cuz the last owner hooked it up. but i actually bought it for 2700.

Noone can beat my insurance rate...

I pay $180 a month for liability, so thats $2160 a year for my 89 coupe. Dosent pay to speed, or at least speed by undercover cops in Red Jimmys and Purple Intrepids.
