Hi guys,
i hava an issue with my 180 sx not idling
it only idles when the cooler hose is off. as soon as i put it on it stalls
ive cleaned changed and tested most things still with no result
motor came from another shell and ran fine
cleaned and tested iacv
cleaned entire throttle body and manifold
turbo isnt seizedor stuffed
cat and exhaust is clear
intercooler and piping is clear
tps is set to .45
afm works on my other car so know that works
new plugs
new fuel
new battery
all earths cleaned up
injectors tested and cleaned
its doing my head in
the only thing it could be is that i have tomei pon cams on stock computer but they are supposed to work with a stock ecu, and when it runs it runs just lumpy.
is there anything else im missing
thanks

What the hell is a cooler hose. The radiator hose? The intercooler?
I think you mean intercooler.
Sounds like a boost leak and it needs tuning for cams

^^ He's from Aussie so I am sure he is referring to the intercooler
Matesh, what are your wideband readings?? Chances are, it's going lean. No way to tell as you don't have any data for us to pour over.....

How far is your maf from the turbo?

haha sorry cooler short for intercooler.
cant be a boost leak.... it only runs with a massive boost leak. if i start it with the intercooler hoses on it runs for maybe 10 seconds the starves the dies, pull the intercooler hose off and it runs perfect and stays on idles at 1000rpm but rich as probably due to the pipe being off
the maf has been positioned right up on the turbo snorkle , in the stock position and even further away on a custom piping set up.
question is do i pull the cams out an run stock ones or get a power fc and tune it to suit.... still dont know what the issue is these cams should work on stock ecu
gonna scan the ecu tomorrow so hopefully that shows up some thing
cheers

Motor will run with those cams just fine untuned/stock ecu.

seems silly but, you tried pulling codes from the ecu?

are you sure its stock injectors
stock turbo
stock intake
unplug the O2 sensor
did you pressure test
Is it the correct maf? Check part number on maf
take pictures of this thing and post them so we can diagnose better
These engines are very simple,
it goes:
maf -> ecu -> injectors
So either the maf, ecu, or injectors is the 'issue'
get a video of the wideband and how it reacts to various placement of the maf (on and off)
the fact it runs without maf tells me wrong or bad maf sensor, or bad maf wiring, or maf grounding. Or wrong injectors. Or wrong fuel pressure (too high?). It should die immediately if you pull the maf off. So something is sending extra voltage to the ecu from the maf (wrong maf)
WIll it run without the maf plugged in? It should run fine without the maf plugged in, just wont rev past 2500rpm. If it doesnt run without the maf plugged in sounds like wrong injectors or wrong ecu

^^ Ding ding. As king points out, it's standard process for problem diagnosis.
P.S The turbo needs atleast 12 inches, a an air straighter (not a requirement is MAF is sufficiently far enough from the MAF) and recommend atleast a 90 or 45 degree bend prior to the turbo (the turbulent from the turbo wreaks havoc on MAF settings if sitting too close to the turbo).

did you make sure the flow from the intercooler is not restricted?

thanks guys ill try all these things and get some pictures and video of what its doing
didnt realise there are different types of mafs, how many are there for s13 redtop sr20...? ill check my part number.
intercooler is clear ive checked it and run water through it
afm position is in the stock position using the oem rubber snorkel...
ill try pulling the o2 sensor and swappjng it with a spare
ill get pictures and vid

Hi guys,
so found the issue had to take it to a tuner
the fuel pump speed controller module wasn't working and that was the issue
he by passed it and idles perfect everything is fine.
