I tapped into the switched 12v for the hazard button, and the turn signals quit working, I set it back to the way it was and they still do not work.
I replaced the turn signal switch unit, as well as checked the fuses with no success.
Any ideas of what actually may have broken?

Glad you stuck with it. Electrical problems are some of my least favorite to deal with and some of the most frequent on this chassis.
