View Full Version : Vented s14 hood?

I'm looking for a functional vented hood. VIS Invader is out of the question, as I don't agree with the placement of the vent. And it's a single vent, at that.
I don't care about CF or FRP or fiberglass. But I need it for as little cash as possible.
But really, my KA-T engine bay is getting insanely warm. I need some heat management, and nothing really seems like a better starting place than adding cool air. Followed by removing warm air (will do later).

JBlood. Where do I find these? Or a knockoff of these? Or a Stout knockoff.

just do that ghetto fab hood spacer 'mod' and remove all that insulation as a temp. That should hold you up til you find a proper hood.

why not have a GOOD body shop custom vent your hood.. a bit of metal, a bit of welding, and you're good to go.

that, or mount a PC fan aimed at your turbo manifold. :) haha

Because I have no taste. If I were to vent it, it would have a 1" strip cut out the back, a vent about where the motor starts, and a z31 style scoop pointing at the turbo/manifold.

I find that my engine relieves the most air when I dont have a hood on. Maybe you should look into that option :) But you could look at some of vent designs online and tell the body shop to work with it.

You're looking into this now that the summer is over lol...

Anyways, the cooling panel I have does wonders, it's fun to watch my stock gauge go from 1/2 at a long red light to 1/4 during 40mph driving.

I'll be adding my Invader hood shortly once I paint it, don't hate, it's functional to a certain degree.

On the topic, my car is taking longer to warm up in the morning, runs real rough, can't rev past 2-3k w/ out bogging down. Runs nice once warmed up though.

I'm running 1 fan vs 2 now, that helps things out.

This sounds like more than the cooling panel. Do you have a thermostat installed? Because a bit of air blowing on the motor from a fan won't make the car warm up slowly. However, if you have no thermostat and are pumping cold coolant through the motor, it will.

Definitely more than the cooling panel. I have a NISMO tstat but I actually think it's MAF related, especially w/ the SAFC2. I have a feeling when Scott tunes the car to max out the 550s, he can cure the situation. Back to your topic now...

Or, you could appreciate the weight savings inherent of CF, or the $340 price tag, or the simple high pressure will always seek out low pressure principle.
I'll take pics of the rad cap though for you all to snicker and poke fun :)

PS - Need something to offset the heavy kouki headlights and HID package. She keeps packing weight :(

^not quite sure why but I swear your car reminds me of an ITR everytime I see it.......
anyways I had the invader style vented cf hood on my s13, it wasn't the one everybody has though it was some off brand. it was light as shit, CF looked good with no flaws, it wasn't rolled though just cut but it was lighter than my buddies name brand one, which is what I was really looking for, rather than nescessarily high quality to look awesome since it was being painted eventually anyways. well the company had the scoop part actually set farther back. like when you looked at it from the door/fender area you could see the back of the radiator and stuff. definitely kept my underhood temps down, as observed by an IR temp gun, the intake mani was about 9 deg cooler, IC piping about 11 deg, the intercooler itself didn't see much of an effect from it, and the water temp didn't noticeably see any either (the car ran extremely cool normally anyways w/ koyo radiator), I doubt my thermostat ever really fully opened up. can't remember where I got the hood at but if you look around for them.... it actually never claimed to be some off brand r anything, the company guarenteed it for like 7 years to be free from all defects, and also said they were the lightest available CF hoods on the market, their track hood for integras only weighed 3 lbs....

same weight savings a fiberglass hood offers, i paid a smidge more for my chargespeed fiberglass hood, and the hood is not only functional, but uber jdm :bowrofl: but hey, your car, Im just tryin to help my main man ;)
