Hey everyone,

I cracked open my s14 optional 3rd brake lights and it looks like the light blue “paint” (or I believe is paint lol) has started to fade on some letters. Any thoughts on if it is paint and what kind of paint could be used. I want to see if I could possibly restore it where it’s faded.

i would mix up some kind of enamel paint (blues/teal/white/black?) from a model/hobby shop with a clear to make it translucent if needed, apply it with a small brush. I would see if there is a blue tint film that can be cut on a vinyl plotter to size and apply. OR cut out a stencil if it wont stick (if the back of the lens is textured) and use a small brush or air brush to fill in the letters. at least thats what it looks like they did. (stencil/paint on the inside since it looks textured).

iv rebuilt the window louvers before but have no experience with that 3rd brake light. it wasn't paint it was a eletrolumenesent panel. which by design does not last forever. they slowly burn up. it was just a flat electrolumesent panel with a "silvia" filter over the panel. Again not sure if that brake light is the same though

Yeah the inside of the 3rd brake light is textured. It does look like a stencil was used for the “Silvia” when they were applying that black film. I was thinking of trying an oil-based paint marker to dot the faded areas but not sure how well it passes light.

Super_OK_S13. I like the enamel paint idea. I’m going to ponder what I want to try before putting it on. Thanks.

This sounds cheesy and ricey, but if you used blue LED wedge bulbs it would illuminate evenly. I wouldn't mess with what's there, I think you're likely to do more harm than good.

Hmmm that’s not a bad idea at all lol.
