View Full Version : The OEM+ / S-Chassis Preservation Thread

It's slightly uplifting that people are at least posting on Zilvia to ask if they should preserve their S-Chassis cars or make them into complete shitboxes. It's not much, but maybe it's a step in the right direction.

If this thread gets a decent amount of participation, maybe we can keep it and use it to motivate new users to:

- Not post threads asking to be spoonfed specs for stock-bodied cars
- Save 'unicorn' cars from a life of misery
- Preserve the remaining cars out there

Please note the title of the thread.

OEM+

- Suspension work, stock-bodied, OEM-optional-parts-using cars.

Preservation

- OEM nut/bolt, factory-wheel-rocking motherfuckers that do God's work.

The overall goal is to give newcomers a reference point. Where should they spend money to get the car looking decent and lower to the ground. Wheel specs listed here will of course be my opinion, but feel free to chime in. Most people don't want to search the Wheel Fitment Thread so if they can look at a thread geared towards stock-bodied cars they can find what they need.

I'm boring. I do minimal work on my cars to get them lowered, aligned, and on the road. This thread is for people like me that don't want to shoot for big horsepower, cut up the bumper for a fat intercooler, and bacon their fenders trying to fit bigger wheels.

Here are some of my cars, past and present. Most are what I would consider OEM+ and use the bare minimum to get lower to the ground and look good.

180SX/240SX

1993 240SX SE
Rear Upper Control Arms (RUCA)
Coilovers (Feal 441)
Subframe Bushings (not needed to go lower, but should be a 1st stop with these cars)
16x8.0+0 Volk TE37V
Fenders Rolled

Although these pictures are reversed, here's an example. This:

Used to be this:

https://i.imgur.com/CjyT4gS.jpg

I got this car with 92,XXX miles. It was automatic, sunroof-equipped, and lucky for me stored in a garage.

After getting the rear bumper repainted and the rest of the car paint/color-corrected, it looked brand new. I sourced the 5MT parts out over the course of a month and used only OEM parts. By the time I got the wheels and suspension on it was almost time for me to go to Japan...and that's why it's important to keep all of your OEM parts. This is all you have to do to your car to make it look decent.

1996 180SX Type X
Rear Upper Control Arms (RUCA)
Coilovers (KTS)

These are two different cars, but you get the idea.

This was a preservation car. I didn't want to modify two cars at once, so this one was slowly getting OEM parts refreshed until I found the color I really wanted. The picture is just used to show the difference.

you should add a master part number list to the op for things like weather strip, trim, bolts, bushings, etc. could be a very useful resource.

You're doing the lords work right here.

We need more people talking about preserving these cars instead of trying to build drift missile shit boxes.

I'm on my third s13 and the cleanest out of all of my previous 240s. 89 two tone. Bought from an original owner. Let's get this party started!

I wanted the thread to be more of a motivator...I want newcomers to see you can do only a FEW modifications to get the car lowered, aligned, and looking good. Cars with minimal modification are the goal.

If member posting here would like to share, by all means data dump your parts numbers.

although i did change the color in 2010 i tried to keep the car as classy/clean as i could with a neutral color, but this car will draw a crowd at bingo night with people just wanting to know what it is.

so this is how it sits to this day this car is only summer driven karting me here and there on trips and she just clocked a 109,000 on the odometer/chassis.

keep it simple i've owned this car since 2004 auto to manual swapped in 2008 less is more they can last!

I'm fully supportive of this thread and the few companies who have recently started providing us with long lost new-old schassis bits. Here's my contribution:

https://i.imgur.com/p7lWdkN.jpg

'95 original 5spd car with 1 previous registered owner. He passed away and the car was sold at an estate sale. The car had been sitting for a few years and the buyer did nothing and let it sit for another couple of years. At some point the driver window was busted. I bought it and let it sit for ANOTHER 3 years.

This past december I pulled it out and stripped the hideous blue interior. With the help of a parts car I completely swapped the interior to black with an uncracked dash and leather seats. I did rear kyb struts, brakes all around, and a tune up and it has now been my daily for a few months. The body is completely straight, although the paint is shot. The plan is to stay completely stock. At some point I will repaint it either the same color or AL0(Ruby red, the color of my first car/s14). I've put a shit ton of little tedious into it already and there's a bunch more til it will count as a restoration, but I've really been enjoying having it.

Tein HE coilovers. 15x9 +0 dumpster wheels w/205/50's. Have a new wheel setup going on shortly. Old school SSR's, along with a 5-lug/Z32 brake setup. I've owned this car since 2007, always preferred keeping it low-key/ OEM+. The other car was a bone stock '89. The one that got away. Ended up practically giving it away. :(

I feel like the concept of this thread really applies to S13 and earlier chassis. Maybe the S14 has not aged enough, but they don't give me the 'classic' car Feels in preservation form.

That said, I Like this thread and hope it blows up with more entries. As far as S14s go, Bluejayde's black Zenki comes to mind.

Plans (short term) are to get the a/c recharged, tint the windows, install original stereo, restore the dash, and swap over a Silvia front.
Would like to add a vlsd, z32 brakes, and change out some bushings but for the most part it’s solid.
I’m keeping this car completely stock looking, not gonna lower it or put wheels.

I'd chime in, but my cars are more resto-mod. I do like how aesthetically pleasing they came from the factory, but just can't stand the stock ride height.

Jon your cars belong in here. They'd be OEM+ by my definition and I think by some other member's definition. Factory aero, Factory optional parts, fully refreshed, but lowered on some nice wheels. Seems OEM+ to me

The point of this thread? I dont know. Its like, lets post cars that are barely modified and jerk off to them.

This kinda reminds me of what the cars on the old 240SX mailing list used to look like back in the day. You know, in the 90s... when people didnt do much other than install wheels, tint and a stereo. That was what we considered modified back then.

I do like how aesthetically pleasing they came from the factory, but just can't stand the stock ride height.

Everyone gets mad when new age kids wanna overbuild their cars to FD spec, neon colored, tube chassised ridiculousness.
So now some people are trying to show them how simple builds can be great and getting back to basics would be better to see than dudes “ruining” cars for clout.

Sweet thread. I’ve had my s14 Kouki for 22 years, most amazing, versatile, high performance and well mannered and reliable car I’ve known. She had many mods over the years, and currently going through a bottom up restoration.

Complete suspension overhaul done.

Interior being done right now.

Next steps are to get her back on the road as a daily, refreshed and like new.

These are such a great chassis, the original was rather dangerous, and suspension, wheels and tyres are a must have in my experience.

Please restore these, as there is nothing like them available today, now unlikely in the future.

Only around the block when I had to move house, it was terrible lols, not setup lots of rear positive camber, old Konis, no sway bars etc.

It will be set up for grip, to enjoy all the twisty roads at my back door, so hopes are high! With luck it will be in time for Christmas.

Crimson, I can speak to these ES bushing, I have the same setup in the knuckles and subframe as he does.

While mine weren't terrible or falling apart before hand, it really firmed up the rear and eliminated slop on and off throttle; firm, but predictable. I've driven with solid subframe bushings and felt a lot of feedback through the chassis that I dont get with the poly subframe bushings.

I would have much rather gone with sphericals in the knuckles but I couldn't justify the extra $500 on a street car. Suspension moves freely; no binding, no squeaks since I loaded up the suspension before tightening the knuckle side bolts like you're supposed to.

I chose the gktech solid subframe bushings, and Poly for the diff, with the aim to raise the subframe as much as possible, and have that road feel, with poly on the diff to isolate transmission noise somewhat...

Then with the full butyl interior to quieten up noise as much as possible. The boot (trunk) is bare, with some tasteful renovation and a wooden floor, with the idea I can pop down the rear seat flap for more noise, or close it up for stereo times.

It’s all an experiment, and hopefully delivers ;).

Currently mid restoration on my 1992 hatch

I'm really liking this thread lol. I know too many junk 240's that could have fixed up, but ended up being hacked or scrapped.

I'll have to do a full build thread one day but here's a quick summary of my car and the stuff I've done since owning it.

This is the first picture I ever took of the car, i know its shit, but it shows its sub par condition:

https://i.imgur.com/pTxuKIDh.jpg
Here is a roller that my friend took that shows the shitty spray painted fender and dented rocker panel etc

https://i.imgur.com/CHxzc3Lh.jpg

The first thing I did was rip out the thrashed interior and replace the carpet, dash and shit bezel. I really wish that i took pictures of how bad the interior was before, but I wanted that trash gone so quick I forgot to take pics :picardfp:

https://i.imgur.com/QcAUXa3h.jpg

Unfortunately the dash wasn't perfect, had a few hairline cracks.

https://i.imgur.com/cgMDkbwh.jpg

OK skipping a while ahead and approx. 8 months of body work in between class I started the painting process:

https://i.imgur.com/DHl8ltgh.jpg
I didn't have the time to paint the whole car start to finish in one go, so paint has been taking quite a while, but here's a pic in primer

In the meantime I've been slowly picking away at the interior. I got a damn near perfect dash, a digital cluster, and I fabbed up some seat rails for 300zx seats. I've heard mentions of people putting 300zx seats into s13's on zilvia and nico like 10+ years ago but any links are long dead. I believe these are the only pics of this conversion out there:

This past week I finally started putting down the color. I'M using HoK KBC-11 brandywine over BC-12 zenth gold. I've only done the jambs for now but I think the color is amazing. Its crazy deep; a bright red in the sun, burgundy in the shade and almost black at night:

I tried to keep it pretty brief, but I plan on making this into a full build thread one day lol

Awesome thread. I picked this thing up for a cheap price which seemed to be in rough shape but as I went through it turned out to be a great purchase. I was hoping the original color was red but it turned out the original color was gray so thats what I decided to paint it. The interior is also complete now and will start focusing on doing 5 speed swap. For now im enjoying it how it is.

Thanks, these are just caps but Im looking for the hub caps that are pictured above when this car was red but it was missing two of them so Im still on the hunt. My plans are OEM+ but im not sure if i want to roll the quarter panels lol

Great thread! absolutely loving the people coming out of the woodworks from all around the world to show their unmolested 240s. My S14 was the first car I ever owned, as a teenager owning one of these cars, people ask me damn near everyday "When are you going to Kouki it? When are you going to widebody it?" Personally, I love the oem+ look of these cars, they are timeless. The car is now staying at home as I head off to college..

Here is mine, Started off as a single, old man owned, stock 5 speed.

This was one of the earlier stages of my car and probably my favorite..before I started doing stupid stuff like slamming it on the ground with super stiff coilovers and ripping out all of the fender liners/splash shields. It just had 2" drop springs, sway bars, z32 TT wheels, Q45 brake upgrade, JDM aero and a reliable ka-t setup putting down 270whp. It was such a fun and easy car to drive.

Maybe i'm in the same boat as a couple others, my car is more of an OEM+ body/suspension/wheel wise, but the modified/shaved/tucked engine bay/cage is meant to be deceiving from the outside look... even though i've been bashed a little for painting a non two-tone, factory two-tone colors. :wiggle:

The two tone is awesome! Loving it all, awesome cars in this thread.

Here in Australia, we have retard cops whom get ticket excited about engine mods etc, so understated original style with a little flair is the kind of thing we have to do.

Well executed, it preserves these cars really well.

I'm going to get the front lip on this car soon. I'm slowly sourcing 5speed swap parts and I'll be set. I have some old school HKS headers, too. I love this car as an automatic but the previous Silvia I had was a manual Q's and it was pretty fun. I'd imagine an NA CA Silvia Q's is the Nissan equivalent of an AE86, although I've never been in one lol.

jdmlivin: Looks like it's coming along great!

I was lucky enough to snag a pignose for my 240SX before I left for Japan. I sold my Type X here and I told myself I'd get a genuine 180SX front bumper for my 240SX after that. I'm trying to source all OEM aero parts so I can mix-and-match in my later years.

I really want to be that dude that has dual projectors, triple projectors, bricks, aero bar, non-aero bar, OEM sides, and OEM rear valences on deck to change the look of my S13 Silvia if I get bored. Same goes for the S15. I feel like it's a good way to keep the same car for a long time, but mix and match shit whenever you feel the itch to move on. Constant struggle.

I've always been a huge fan of OEM+. Never really been a fan of aftermarket kits as they don't do as well at complimenting factory lines.

This is my car and my partners car. My car came with all the factory type x kit so i was lucky i never had to search for any of the kit.
My girlfriends car on the other hand was bone stock. It took maybe a year or so to get it looking the way it is.

Love this thread! Great to finally find some terms to explain what I've been working towards for the past 3 years. Some great inspiration

(on the wife's laptop so only have IG links sorry: https://www.instagram.com/p/BzUgxILH85v/)

I'm also sitting in the "too many modifications". The car is kitted (albeit Vertex), RB25 swapped and has track oriented suspension (ex D1NZ comp car from early 2000's), and runs VSXX (again, albeit 17's).

However it's still metal fenders, had a closed door job, 2000 grit wet sand & polish and runs a more "sensible" ride height these days.

Is restomod a more suitable term then?

I've always been a huge fan of OEM+. Never really been a fan of aftermarket kits as they don't do as well at complimenting factory lines.

This is my car and my partners car. My car came with all the factory type x kit so i was lucky i never had to search for any of the kit.
My girlfriends car on the other hand was bone stock. It took maybe a year or so to get it looking the way it is.

I got mine with those wheels, the same ones sold on the Nissan Maxima at the time. In those days, 1997 lols they looked so grandpa... as time marches on, these wheels do look really good, however they are skinny AF, and mine did me no favours with their big sideawalls flexing and loosing their grip when it was needed... Luckily in never ended up crashing my s14, but there were enough heart stopping moments on those rims!

Some people claim you got to know the right market. I dont know if they're refering to jackson berret or some shit, 'cause outside i have never seen expensive 240s go for the asking price. I priced my kouki on the low side (less than upgrades alone) and i still had a little trouble selling.
I agree with dizzariot, asking price is irrelevant in most cases.

...yeah but in my opinion that's shitty. It's trickled into a ton of other models and I really hope it doesn't happen to us. I'd sell my car for what I truly believe it's worth: $7000. People will talk shit, but I'd be fine knowing that's what I'd pay for it if it wasn't already mine. That being said, I wouldn't ask $10k for it in the hopes of setting a price trend, because I'm not a colossal cunt. I cunt for sure, but like fun-sized.

The NSX is a good example. Had I known the price mark-ups would be this bad or unnecessary, I would've considered buying one when I first got here. The SAME cars I used to see for around $40k-$45k (lower KMs, no repair, MT) are now $60k-$65k...and for what? No one seems to care about the new NSX. It's Porsche assholes setting a bad example lol.

Lol it's just the market. Prices for 90's Japanese cars are just on the rise now, similar to how the muscle cars back in the mid 2000's were selling for very high prices. The kids that used to drive these cars on gran turismo are now 30-40+ and making money. Combine that with a good economy and you start getting people willing to drop $75k on a TT Supra.

sidenote: I will be switching my front bumper back to a JDM bumper, N1 ducts and a C-West style lip from Shine Auto. Then will I be OEM+? The only non-OEM styled aero will be the URAS valences and the lip. Side skirts are Nismo. Just feeling left out now..

I think mine might fall into this, have a 97 that I've been slowly restoring and tastefully modifying as we go along. Have tried to stick with OEM parts as much as possible.

97 240SX
Originally auto trans, 240k miles on body.

Powertrain:
SR20DET swap from a 98 S14 front clip
S15 electronics (ECU, injectors, ignition)
JDM VLSD diff (3.69 FD)
Greddy FMIC
Apexi Induction Pipe
HKS BOV, stock location, recirculated
Greddy exhaust
Nismo trans mount
C's short shifter
DW fuel pump

Body:
OEM JDM Kouki Aero
R33 GTR N1 vents (not installed yet)

Suspension:
R33 GTR wheels 245/40R17 Cont Sport tires
Tein springs
New KYB shocks
S15 Spec-R trunk brace
Nismo Tension rod brace

Interior:
JDM steering wheel, re-wrapped w/ perforated leather
JDM Triple-DIN gauge pod
JDM Kouki radio/vent trim
New carpet
FX35 Bose sub in spare tire

Have had to replace rusted floor pans and a bunch of interior bits. Few things left are: replace quarter panel (was hit when I bought it) and paint whole car. Have full Nismo suspension arms ready to go. Also have leather interior that will need to be redone before installing.

Holy shit. Yeah that fucked it all up. I mean the miles are so low I'd personally CONSIDER $10k...but the added $5k is either some dumb rich kid or someone that knows the seller and is really trying to push their luck.

The more I see the OEM S13 Silvias/240sx, the more I want to revert my cars back to stock. I think having the S15 as a 'low car' is enough for me...

Also thought this might be a good place to share this since not a lot of people seem to be aware of this and is an OEM+ style upgrade. I wanted to relocate the battery to the trunk in my s14 and used an r33 battery tray which I imported from the UK. Mounts right up to factory holes which are originally covered by stickers, and looks super clean.

Battery tray is super legit, cant beleve no one eles does this.....

I feel like my cars fit well in this thread. Although they may not have too much "+" they sure are OEM. First is my 92 hatch. Bought this from the original owner a little less that a year ago with 76k miles. its 100% and should be getting some coilovers and wheels within the next month or so.

Next is my 89 creamy yellow two-tone coupe that I picked up on black friday this year. Like the hatch, it is completely stock and should be getting some tastefull mods when i have the chance. Till then, it makes for a great looking daily:2f2f:

I brought this car after college with cash. It was my 1st car and I didn't even know how to drive a stick until 4 weeks before this. It was my daily for about a year and I just love the way it looks so I brought another car(Mazda protégé, 5spd) and used that as my daily. This car has been parked in a garage since then(1992) and I used it as a weekend car. My job working for the government took me to far away countries so I always had another car to drive if not getting shot at. Thru the years I have purchased a Nissan Sentra, Mazda 6s, another Mazda 6s, a Nissan Altima, and now drive an Infiniti Q50S TT.

The Nissan 240SX always held a place in my heart. Seriously, I didn't even know about the "drift tax" until 1/2019. I drove it only during summer months and never in snow/salt. Most of the time I get approached by someone while filling the tank and asked me if it's for sale. Never gave it another thought and said no every time. $5000 was offered on the spot 14 months outside a gas station and it wasn't until then I search the internet and finally join this group.

As to the car it's 100% OEM original. It's a 5sp 1991 Nissan 240SX with AC, sunroof, sports package, Super HICAS, limited slip diff with 8697 miles. There is no rust as you can see by the pictures. The windshield was replaced in 1992 due to a chip and crack. Stereo doesn't work 100%. It sounds weak and I think it's because I haven't used it much. The tires are 100% original RE88 as you can see by the DOT# manufacture on the 44th week in 1990. Will change those tires this year. The body is 95%. Muffler is original as seen by the 11/90 manufactured date. Car runs well and like new. Drove about 150 miles last year and full fluid change and checkup by a Nissan dealership in 5/2019. The seatbelt buckle recall was done on that date.

I have a funny story to tell. The dealership called Nissan corporate for the replacement buckle and corporate told them not to bother because the car probably has too many miles. Once they heard the actual mileage, next question from Nissan was, "Is the car for sale?". The answer I told them and everyone else was "Not now and probably never":2f2f:

I do have folders with print outs of literally every single last part number for S13's and S14's. I'll see if I can give myself some time soon to scan them and upload them on here for people to reference in the future.

Did you ever find time to post those? That what be an awesome resource to have access to :)

I wonder what Nissan would want with an s13? Show and display?

Nissan’s Zama Heritage Collection has a lot of cars with low/zero miles. More than half of them are cars repurchased from original owners to showcase the vehicles in “original condition”.

If it’s a serious inquiry from corporate, there may be a bounty internally with a list of vehicles they’re trying to procure.

...yeah but they're mostly cars no one cares about or knows of. I went there and it was kind of a let down. The race cars get rotated in and out of Nissan HQ in Yokohama which is way easier to get to.

wtf? you must have gone on the worst day possible. when we went there were at least 2-3 dozen cars worthy of nut-busting.
R390 road going version and race version,
R33-LM
a handful of instantly recognizable Silhouette cars
a long row of 70's Datsun sunny and 240Z race cars
R33 SEDAN gtr (actual Nissan produced GTR sedans are pretty uncommon)
Gorgeous dark blue Stagea wagon that was the pace car for some racing series (I can't remember which) on bronze LMGT4
Taisan R32 race car (the one driven by Tsuchiya)

as well as the rows and rows of flawless showroom level, bone stock assorted nissans/datsuns/Princes

ALSO, Nissan HQ in Yokohama was def cool, and merch was cheaper there than at Omori Factory, but they only had 2 cool cars on display (and a bone stock z34). Granted, one was a old R90 race car, and the other was the V2 Mid4 concept, both panty droppers, but still, only 2 cars.

Yeah but that's essentially what I said: The racecars are always in and out of Yokohama. So I've seen a lot of them before with the added benefit of being able to do other things in Yokohama as opposed to the area surrounding the Zama Museum.

From a visiting standpoint, yeah it would be better to see the race cars in one go. I think I just wanted to see more 'Golden Era' variants as opposed to two rows of 80s Laurels and Glorias.

not sure why you think they're cars no one cares about.

The point of the museum is to have a single collection of Nissan heritage. If you wanted race cars, this place still is 70-80% of the entire collection of famous Nissan race cars that is available to be seen in one place, in one trip. For the inquiry from corporate earlier in this thread, it may very well be someone with a list of cars to try to purchase should they come across it...

I've been to Zama 3 times in 4 years. Been to Nismo HQ 6 times in 5 years. Every trip to Japan, I go to all the usual car places in hopes of seeing something rare.

Nissan HQ is nice but you have to be camping out often to see the cars.
Nismo HQ is nice but you have to be camping out often to see the cars.

There isn't any other place in Japan that has that many rare cars in one place, only other place that comes close is the Honda Collection Hall which is even farther than Zama.

Forget about Toyota. They don't show their race cars. The only time I got lucky with Toyota was my first trip back in 2005, randomly came across the Toyota GT-One on display at Mega Web.

This post reminds me to post up the pics from Zama + Honda Collection Hall. Will do it later.

Finally got my HKS Hipermax IV GT coilovers installed and fitted these R34 GT-R wheels (18x9 +30) with 255/35 all around. Currently running a 3mm spacer in front to clear the coilovers (might up it to 5mm in front or 10mm all around with new extended studs).

That’s awesome man, if you ever wondered what Nissan is going to do with your car of they ever bought it is they’ll have it in the “ lane museum” here in Nashville, Tennessee. I work down the street from Nissan HQ at a Nissan dealership. They have a underground garage where they keep other cars that aren’t parked in the museum I’ve been poking around trying to get access to see all the cool stuff they got. They recently bought a mint fastback like yours from a corporate employee

Bought this car from the original owner with 170k miles. Bone stock original five speed. Uncracked dash Georgia car that belonged to an older gentleman. Brought it home and threw in Kouki 180sx front and rear seats, a new perforated Nardi 330, and an old logo Nismo knob and drove it all summer.

Currently doing a full restoration and installing my decent collection of Nismo/OEM items. Plans include a refreshed ka24de, suspension rebuild, and the installation of the rest of my Kouki 180sx aero. I plan to make a build thread now that I have more free time being at home in lockdown. Really enjoyed reading this thread and thought I would share my gem. Hope to have some interesting OEM+ approved photos for you all next time around.

I enjoy film photography, so here are some photos I took after a few weeks with the car.

There was several items that needed attention. Worn paint, broken hood hinges (no, I'm not into hood risers), typical rusted hatch lid, pea-shooter aftermarket exhaust, etc. I bought a donor car in the same color and swapped hoods with it, swapped the hatch lid, replaced the pea-shooter exhaust with an OEM unit, and did some minor upgrades on both the exterior, interior, and suspension.

Added OEM 180sx wheels, OEM mudguards and 50/50's for that extra OEM+. Lowered on JIC FLT-A2's, OEM Kouki 180sx seats, 180sx floor mats, Nardi deep corn.

I'd buy that shit in a heartbeat.

If you look through the detailed pictures, there's several issues that stand out to me.

1. It has definitely been repainted, and poorly at that. It seems as though they didn't bother removing the factory black trim line / tape during the respray. Notice the paint lifting above and below the black line and near the fuel lid door.

https://bringatrailer.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/05/1989_nissan_240sx_1589597800565ef66e7dff9f98DSC019 00JPG.jpg?fit=1999%2C1125

2. Normal 30+ year old wear for a car parked outdoors. The usual exterior rubber moldings/trim are showing their age and would eventually need to be replaced. A complete glass-out respray along with seals/moldings/trim replacement will easily cost $5k+ depending on who paints it.

3. Interior trim pieces need to be restored/replaced. This one is me really nitpicking, but still something I'd have to do if I'm going for that "mint" look.

https://bringatrailer.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/05/1989_nissan_240sx_15895979697dff9f98764daDSC01838J PG.jpg?fit=1999%2C1125

4. One of the least desirable models (again, IMO). SOHC, Auto, and sunroof. The first two can be addressed rather easily, but the third not so much. I've owned far too many of these to know the sunroofs are just ticking time bombs. It's only a matter of time before the assembly goes bad or the roof starts to leak.

It's a good looking car overall. Is it worth the $10k+ hype people were posting about on the Facebook groups calling this a museum piece? That's a no for me. Having owned plenty of completely stock/original and modified Coupes, the nostalgia wears off quickly and you're reminded of every single reason why you began to upgrade the suspension, brakes, and interior in the first place.

If I were in the market for a good base platform to build and was okay with paying a premium, I'd pay $5k max for it.

I think people on the Facebook groups would really lose their shit if they saw the red hatch posted a few pages back. Now that's a museum piece that IMO would easily fetch over $20k to a car collector.

Put your tinfoil hats on: Do you guys believe this? Couldn't it be a plot to jack prices? If I have $30k in savings, and I give it to my brother to buy my car from me (minus the BaT fee) I just keep the car and sell it under a new name later...?

I really have a hard time believing this. The only other 'econobox' car to fetch north of $20k is the AE chassis and even those top at like $25k.

did you read the comments from the two top bidders?

both owned the car in 1990 new, and the winner met his wife in pretty much the exact same car.

not bad for a 30 or 40 year wedding anniversary. I know people that spend way more for way less.

It's amazing what nostalgia and a swollen bank account will make people do.

These really are good cars if you take care of them. That's why people that get rid of them always come back to them...

I just saw the price. Damn, that's a high price to pay for one. Think I need to contact Hagerty insurance for an update.:faint:

yeah. the price is insane for your average person.

for that 1 in a million owner who has a sentimental attachment to that car, its understandable.

I don't see it having that much swing on the already overinflated prices of s-chassis.

in another year or two ZN6 will be cheap enough that its a reasonable alternative to the already picked thin 240 market. Z33/G35 are already cheaper (in many cases) than buying a 240, and IMO a better platform for the price.

but if anyone else has a swollen bank account they need to deplete, i'll sell you my s13 for the low low price of $29,999. *some assembly required*
