stupid question but I figure it would be good satire from the norm.
when you get new (factory sealed not "new to you" used) parts and gawk over how much you spent.
ever just take a second to smell the parts?
what do you get from that? why do you feel its important when its YOUR car?
or am I alone here?

I found myself doing this recently. and i kinda just had a moment of clarity that went "damn, I do this EVERYTIME i get new (factory sealed) parts".
To me, its the satisfaction that, its never been used, and I get to enjoy the part in its purest form before it gets put thru a ringer.

I usually just lay down, curl up in the fetal position, and cry when I realize what a terrible financial decision I made.

of course I do, but I do that with almost everything. its just another sensation you get to experience something you get, like a sensory inspection of something. I check for the "made in china smell" (think harbor freight), and especially if I get something from japan, I try to breath in the jdmness of it.

If it emits an odor i guess, like bushings and plastic parts, or like bearings and stuff that is pre packed with chemicals. Stuff that comes straight from chinaland usually you can smell before you even unpack it lol

I’m a smell enthusiast. I got a septoplasty done in 2017 and I realize I’ve been noseblind my whole life.
Fresh tires, fresh metal parts, fresh powder coating on wheels, fresh tools, and freshly cleaned interior.
In Epcot at Disney world, I stopped to smell all the flowers. I ducking love freshly mowed grass.
Have you ever smelled the game manuals from a new PlayStation 2 game? It was honestly any new rockstar game that had that smell. Midnight club II and GTA los santos.

I just got a new old stock PlayStation 2 controller, and I opened up that plastic package and took a good whiff. felt like I was in middle school all over again.

Walter white would be more suited to explain this phenomenon

Most new stuff just smells like plastic/chemicals. Personally I'm more a conissuer of used oem aero parts and other used jdm parts. Gotta love that old musty stank! lol

Yes, I smell my new parts! It's nostalgia, like X-mas cakes and pies cooking! No different than a new girlfriend, you do the smell test!

I like to smell MT-90 before I pour it because I know it won't ever smell that good ever again.
But new trans mounts smell the best.
