View Full Version : Rattling noise on deceleration

I've been having a strange rattling/buzzing noise heard while decelerating after mild/hard acceleration. I don't hear it after light acceleration. Definitely sounds like it's coming from engine bay. I've double checked my downpipe/exhaust. The noise does not go away when the clutch is pressed. It seems to go away around ~2500-2800 RPM. This is a fairly recently rebuilt engine, completed around ~10k miles ago.

Does anyone have any ideas on where to begin looking to fix this noise? Almost every thread i've seen while searching is transmission or diff related noises on decel, which I don't think is the case for me.

are you talking about a noise in 4th gear only during decel between a range of rpm

doesnt sound like it, but just checking because there is one particular decel 4th gear noise I think I've heard all the time

No, i'm sure I could hear it in all gears, but it's most the acceleration (1-2-3).

I got the same noise/ situation, during 3k+ RPM engine braking. Mine's coming from the heat shield on the Cat.(S14)

What exhaust are you running and how big? My 3" straight pipe was rattling against my frame rail because of worn out hangers. Some Apexi hangers with hose clamps wrapped around them super tight did the trick

My car does something similar, and i'm pretty sure its cause my exhaust touches the floor. What do you run for mounts? I swapped out my solid avid trans mount for a poly ISR and its night and day better

Only problem with those ISR ones is they stretch out pretty fast. The apexi ones are definitely the move
