View Full Version : Anyone play with different dampening on the KTS's/SPL Coilovers?

I have them set to about 80kg of preload up front on my S14.

8 in front and rear, my lowering is 1.375" up front and 0.625" in the rear. Can't use the center front jack point anymore with the bigger front sway.

Initially 8 was too bouncy when the road got unsmooth....knocking it up to 12 (with 15 in this case being stiffest) took that out. Need to drive some more and see how the back is doing. As far as spring rate goes, it's not bad, better than stock in my opinion as it doesn't feel like I am floating. Hitting road bumps and the like it is stiffer, but not harsh and not abusive. I would say alot of stiff mustangs I have driven suck compared to this ride and this car feels more controllable and balanced. The mustang I had last would literally bash your teeth on railroad crossings....my current setup just bounces you a bit, like a split second...much better than crossing the tracks and going up and down for 2-3 seconds.

If anyone has done a lot of playing with settings and cares to comment on how soft vs stiff dampening goes it be cool...

Also on 17x8 +30mm wheels with 235/45R17's...at first I thought the fronts weren't going to work with the upper spring seat / nut...but since my alignment they clear close but ok -2 camber up front.

Thanks

Chris

12 up front and 10 in back is good now :)...it's like instant acceleration...

rough roads still suck, but they did before the coilovers too....I like less oscillating better.

Do you have any preload? I am at 12/10 and tonight on the way home I am going to knock up the rear a bit more (12 I think) as my front is nice and smooth now, but the rear gets bouncy on the light stuff (there is a road I take that looks smooth but it's sort of rippled)...

I can't complain about these coilovers at all. The ride is better than my saturn with eibach prokits and the KYB GR2's, and less harsh (though firmer) than my eibach ers / spax 24 way equipped GTI VR6, and 100x better than my 1988 GT even after I removed the southside traction bars with solid mounts.

dude, the bitches love the pogostick on wheels. forget any previous knowledge you had, stiffer car = more hoes.

went to 13 in the back, 12 in the front....the rear seems most of the problem which I think is due to not having enough weight...maybe after battery relocation and whatnot it will smooth out more...it's not bad at all though, just gets the slight bounces on certain roads. Which may have been the case with my stock suspension.

Now I need to find some open areas to test it out and get used to driving my car all over again.

I run 13 rear and 12 front also. Less understeer, car's very responsive to the throttle, still too much body roll. Hello, Whiteline sways. I also need more meat on the road, I'm waiting for the 225/50R-15 RT-615 from Falken.

ok backtracking a bit from last week when I installed these.

Maybe it's true you need to run them a bit to get them settled in.

I went down to 5/5 settings (15 being hardest) and ride is great now. My backend is the only problem (and not really a problem at all)...

Much better on day to day...I know I am giving up some on perfect roads though. Changing settings takes all of a minute or two though.

I took a turn that was very bumpy with the old set up this morning. It's a terrible section of road. The higher settings caused me to bounce into the next lane...with 5/5 I stayed in my own lane at the same speed.

been playing more now at 8/5...the rear is still a little bouncy at times. I need to figure out if it's just the road I am on though.
