View Full Version : A crazy ass CA18 motor idea...

So I was pondering my battle plan...
Remanufactured KA24DE then Turbo, 2k Motor, 2k Turbo... maybe
SR20DET swap... A little pricy for a used motor. (lets not debate this please)
CA18DET swap... Not bad, but its OLDER than the SR...
Then a thought... If we here in the US produce Rebuilt KA motors, would it be plausable that the Japanse, maybe not Nissan themselves but other companies, are producing remanufactured CA18DETs?
Any comments? Any knowledge?

here's a better idea.
buy a ca18, and go to a junk yard, and pull a motor out of an old datsun that had a ca20 in it. swap the crank, do a rebuild while you are at it, and you've got a ca20det. that's what I'd do if I was gonna go the ca route.

^^ good idea and you can find rebuild kits online and do it yourself or pay a shop to rebuild it for you. sr20det was actually my last choice in engine and somehow i ended up with the damn thing. wtf mate? something else iam playing around with in my head is the s2000 drivetrain. i have been able to find full clips with 35k on them going for around 4 thousand dollars. how cool would that be? i have also been on the hunt for a well powered inline 6 made by nissan that is n/a that i could throw in there but thats been hard as well. to many engine choices and sorry to stray from your saying but hey, its 2am and iam sleepy. maybe i'll just get my 4 rotor built and call it a day = )

Its not the crank, it's the block. Then find or have a custom timing belt made. Then you have a ca20det. There are more things involved then I have just stated....

here is a good idea
http://www.norrisdesigns.com
they sell TONS of ca18 accesories, Also http://www.takakaira.co.jp they import a lot of ca18 shit to the us.
to sum up this pointless seeming post i just made, you make it how you want the outcome to be. forget sr its just too expensive lol. ka-t wouldnt be badd and you have great support here in the states. CA you cvan just pull all kinds of shit out your ass (sort of speak) meaning that there are soo many vehicles here in the us that you can turn to for parts support ie; ca16de, ca18de, ca18e, ca18et, ca20, turbo and pipe work from the sr20det and using the greddy KA24Et FMIC kit.! www.takakaira.co.jp also sells ca18det FMIC's. at www.nissaninfiniticlub.net one of the users are selling and manufacturing aftermarket intake plenums.!
lol, i think my post was pointless but im shure you'l make use of it somehow

i think the ca20det is a good idea, i dont no anybody round here with that setup and far as sr goes, u can get em cheap now days i mean as long as u take care of it itll all be worth it, tune it the right way mod it the right way and she'll run fine, just dont get it or ne thing for that matter and beat the hell out of it cuz itll jus break on u, take pride in what you build. Good luck.

If you only used the CA20 crank you'd end up with about 1.9L. Using the entire CA20 bottom end (except for the pistons) would be preferable.
