So I've been having a problem recently with my 93 hatch. I'll be driving and as I come to a stop the motor will just die and turn off. It'll start right up but I'm having trouble trying to find out what it is. The temp gauge started getting spunky recently and won't read accurately. Today once I got home I popped the hood and it was really hot. My car shut off at a stop light and took it a few tries to get it goin. I'm pretty sure it has to do something with coolant or something related to that but I'm not sure.

How's your idle @ cold and @ warm? IACV ok?
What's wrong w/ your temp gauge? Thermostat ok?
Coil packs ok? Fuel pump ok?

Coil packs ok? Fuel pump ok?Cold is around 1500 and and warm is about 900. And the temp gauge, I'm not sure haven't figured it out. It's just bouncing off of cold. It work sometimes but not often. The motor is rebuilt and all of those have been replaced and are new.

Coolant temperature sensorI don't think it could be that. Because if it was bad the car wouldn't even start. But it'll crank up just fine

in the event that the temp and shutting off aren't related... make sure your battery is secured. i remember once my battery strap broke and i couldnt figure out why my car shut off when i stopped at lights. lol losing the connection

rebuilt engine huh.
1. compression test
2. leak down test
3. get a water temp gauge on it

One thing for sure get a aftermarket water temp gauge .. preferably not the push in probe type ... don’t trust the 21 plus year old oem gauge .. those are pretty much shit.
