I've been debating creating a build thread for this car for awhile now. I figured I've procrastinated long enough, and to just go ahead and pull the trigger on it while I'm still relatively early in the process.
From early on in my childhood, I had always loved the look of the S13 fastback. In my early teens I began saving towards a 240 hatch. Over the years I began to realize the s-chassis scene was extremely saturated. I still loved the look of the car, but I wanted to be more unique at the time, so I started looking at 180sx's.
After two years of saving, searching, sourcing, and consistently browsing the online auctions, as well as US importer inventory everyday, I finally came across a 180 that had some potential.
I was looking for a clean 180sx, with a factory sunroof and SR, preferably in white. I came across this car at auction in early January of 2017. It was a 1989 model that originally came with the CA18DET, HICAS II, ABS, and was originally dark metallic grey. At the time of auction, the car had been SR swapped, repainted white, and HICAS, ABS deleted. It had a replica Type X kit, and some Grenade GX01's.

I decided to go ahead and bid on the car, it was the first 180 I had seen in two years legally for sale that met my specifications. I ended up winning the car, and worked with a Florida based import company to ship the car to the US.

While the car was shipping, I got bored and bought some things I could tell it didn't have from the pictures. I got a carbon Kevlar rear center garnish, OEM kouki front bumper, extensions, extension brackets, front emblem, and some maintenance items.

Okay, enough of the backstory. I picked the car up in late April 2017. Upon driving it for the first time the next morning, I discovered the fitment of the wheels needed some work. All 4 wheels would rub fenders constantly. One trip around the neighborhood filled the interior with smoke from rubbing tire. I realized the only suspension modification that had been done was some CST Zero coilovers. The stock rear upper control arms were maxed out on negative camber, and still couldn't let the Grenades clear the previously cut rear quarters.

I picked up some Kazama RUCA's and toe arms to give me some more adjustability to clear the rear quarters. As for the front, I just raised the coils a little to reduce rubbing.

Next up were the seats. The driver seat was some cheap Naniwaya/Nagoya REV bucket seat. It was extremely uncomfortable, and sized for a kindergartener. The passenger seat was an Autech S15 seat, which was cool, but it didn't fit the style I wanted. I swapped them out for some OEM Type X seats. Luckily the rear seat was already the kouki 180 seat, so everything flowed very well.

I drove the car like this for a few months. I was fairly content with how the car looked, although deep down I knew the wheels and replica kit were killing me haha

From about June to August 2017 I started really cranking down on 180 research. I fell in love with the early 2000's style of Koguchi, Itai, and Ito. The simplicity and style of that time period really grew on me. After enjoying my car for a few months, I started making a list of things I needed. I was debating between OEM Type X and HotRoad. I loved the rarity and uniqueness of old school parts. I started obsessing over hard to find and extremely expensive parts haha.
I finally got rid of the Grenades, and ended up buying two full sets of bronze TE37's. I combined the two to create the iconic 17/18 staggered setup, and sold the remaining staggered set.

After spending a day at the shop installing the new TE's and playing with the fitment, I discovered the CST coilovers couldn't go low enough! I maxed them out and ran them for the time being.

I found a crackless RHD S13 dash in North Carolina, and decided to go ahead and swap out my old cracked dash. (Picture of the old dash)
https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20180328/1d60aad7ab8ff10b7bbebdd6969c81a7.jpg
I threw on some 25mm extended FLCA's and new extended inner + outer tie rods, along with some rack spacers to get the angle and stance I was looking for in the front.

I parked the car for about a month, and started sourcing parts. First up were Ganador power mirrors. I ended up buying a brand new right side S13 mirror and a set of used S13 mirrors with the right side missing the glass. Of course I put the incomplete right side mirror aside. I may sell it, or use it as a replacement one day, not completely sure.
https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20180328/b7b55a413f160c553b9f89bced10be39.jpg
I sent the mirrors off to paint. During that time I sold off the replica kit and discovered the paint on the rockers had some pretty bad chips. The 180 was looking "like it got hit by a truck" as one of my coworkers said.

The next weekend I got a good deal on some Z32 wheels, and decided to have some fun!

https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20180328/a80ecbdd1bb956b7340cb2f7b4ca6569.jpg
Of course that ended after about 5 minutes when the left front tire caught a inner fender mounting tab on my left fender and bent the whole fender outward, slashing the tire in the process. I didn't take any pictures after it happened lol. I took a screwdriver and bent the fender back as best I could (and did a pretty damn good job), and was able to drive it home.
https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20180328/fe45bd92cd9435e883f23a4583f0e245.jpg
https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20180328/ba99ec3eb1bd8cbcaa661d0fe1b17062.jpg
Next up was the OEM Type X kit. I picked up the front corner lights, signal lights, rear wing, side skirts, and rear valances. I opted to go for a DorkiDori urethane replica front lip, and N1 vents because I couldn't afford OEM at the time.

https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20180328/7cb5e3664913400d0b6c1318dbcce51d.jpg
I put my freshly paint matched Ganador mirrors on, and headed out to one last Cars and Coffee before I parked the car for three more months.
https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20180328/bafd54f68bb6ecb9039166156b40df38.jpg
On the way back, a rock from the highway flew up and chipped the paint off my A pillar.
https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20180328/cc2afd3007df0508de41030b9eeb8d5b.jpg
The Type X kit needed to be painted, along with the left front fender, rockers, and now the A pillar. So I decided to go ahead and send the whole car off to be repainted. Now I didn't know if I wanted to stay white, or go with a different color.

I liked white on the car, but it seemed boring to me. I didn't want anything necessarily flashy, but I didn't want a boring looking paint either. Above all, I wanted a color that looks good on the car, something that really pronounces the lines of the body. After about a week of looking at every color s-chassis in existence, I had figured out what I thought the best looking color was- white. Lol. I chose WK0 Nissan OEM Aspen White Pearl Glow. This will give the paint the extra little pizazz I was looking for.
So that settled it. I spent the next two days tearing the car apart to send to paint.

And the car was dropped off at paint the following weekend.
https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20180328/8f35437d738290b16efffc38a78803e8.jpg
Although the OEM kit was extremely clean (not common these days, 2018) it had seen its fair share of scratches. Everything was sanded and filled smooth.

While the car was out of my hair for awhile, I travelled to Columbia and picked up a real '98 Type X front clip and a ton of extra 180SX/SR20 goodies. You never know what you may need in the future!
https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20180328/0f1ffe2dfe9e967266064983ae90f822.jpg
I also picked up a set of rear PBM coilovers to get the rear ride height where I want it, and eliminate that ridiculous rake.
Another thing I haven't mentioned is that I got a GREX shift knob, a Nardi Classic 330, and two Hoshiko EB48 cup holders to make the interior more period correct.

Okay, okay, back to the car. I got it back a month later, and immediately started reassembling it.

The car was almost finished, and I decided to bring it down to Lanier Raceplex for Excite GP Volume 1, a little grassroots drift competition.
https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20180328/d462e12120b4f636b81019ba368c21ed.png
The next week I finished putting the rear valances on, and spent about 2 days washing, waxing, vacuuming, and wiping down the car to bring it to a show in Atlanta.
https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20180328/1d77bd166f1158cf987c3cb33f6aa77e.jpg
A few days before the show, my starter burned out. Fortunately, I had an extra one I picked up with the front clip!
Me and some friends headed down to ATL for the show. I caught a flat tire bringing it into the show on day 1, but luckily the leak wasn't bad enough to cause a major inconvenience. I had a great time!

cars looking great. same direction im going except i cant afford all oem stuff haha. im curious how much negative camber your are running in the rear? i have xt7s i believe same size and offset(18x9.5+12) in the rear as your te37s and they require alot of camber to fit. i run a 225/35 . fenders are rolled but not pulled. im shotting for -2 degrees of camber. but then again,my rear wheels also almost tuck

Hey Fuglychuki, you do indeed have the same rear wheel size as me. I'm currently running a 235/40, but that may change soon (still playing with fitment). I'm running -4.5* right now in the rear with rolled fenders, although like I said, my fitment can be adjusted a little more. I don't think you'll be able to squeeze those wheels under the rear fenders within -2* without a slight pull.

yeah i was pretty much sure id have to pull the rears. i just dont like having a rediculous amount of negative camber in the rear. front sure, but rear not so much. i probably will have to raise the car up some cause my fender is boardline resting on the wheel haha. i guess the swifts on my pbms helped

Thanks guys! Sorry I've been a little inactive lately, I've been SUPER busy with work and finals. I haven't done too much to the 180 recently, except mainly trying to clean up some small details on the car.
One of my HID bulbs seemed to have popped out of the headlight housing sockets and broke when the headlight popped up. The housing was then melted and singed in the process. I've ordered new RAYBRIG housings and new bulbs for both sides, and they should be here by the end of the week.

I also have a Kakimoto exhaust on its way here, so I should have that landed in about a month to replace my current catback. I also want to replace my downpipe, but I still need to do more research to find a low profile, quality pipe.

Once I finish cleaning up the little issues, I'm shifting my focus to the interior of the car. I wish I had more to post about, but that's it for now. Hopefully more stuff coming soon!

Small update for everyone:
New headlight housings and bulbs came in last week, and threw them on. They give off a nice, bright pure white. Exactly what I was aiming for, couldn't be happier.

Looks good! If you want a low profile downpipe, look into the Moonface one piece ones or the PBM ones! Both fit great, the Moonface is more on the expensive "jdm tax" side but the bottom portion is oval and sits level with the frame rail.

**BIG UPDATE**
A lot has changed in the past couple months- and not much of it is good change. A few weeks after I assembled my car from being resprayed, my buddy and I were downtown taking some pictures in front of some antique buildings.

Shortly after these pictures were snapped, the front of my car was struck by an impatient driver in a Nissan Rogue. This is the aftermath.

It doesn't look too bad at first glance, and that's what I thought. I called up the bodyshop that had just finished painting my car a month prior, and told them what had happened. The fender was bent and torn, the bumper needed repairing, all the left side brackets were bent, etc, etc. Long story short, after speaking to insurance multiple times about the initial estimate, supplements, and multiple appraisals, the total came out to just shy of $3,000. All of this took 8 weeks from start to finish.
I picked my car up from the body shop and was not happy with how things turned out. Bolts were missing and broken, there was overspray everywhere, pieces were left unpainted, multiple drip marks, missing brackets, and the kouki bumper did not line up with the body. On top of that, the paint stripper they used on the DorkiDori lip deteriorated the plastic and ruined the lip. So now I'm on the lookout for an OEM one (oof)
But this isn't a rant thread, so I'll move on haha. I was hesitant on bringing the car back, but after I spoke with the owner and he assured me they'll correct everything properly, I dropped the car back off today for the corrections to be made.
I picked up a few more things for the 180 including a C's short shifter, Nismo cluster, Nismo kill switch lighter, and optional cool box. Unfortunately, I have a bad habit of forgetting to take pictures of the parts before I install them. Oops haha

My other favorite build ;) ;) & damn i didnt realize we both only had our cars for 1 month only & then got hit ON THE SAME DAY! Lol what are the chances. Two freshly painted type x’s a month out of paint both getting front bumper/fender damage lol. But im excited to see what other little parts you get 🤩. And are you gonna use your cool box for drinks etc?

That's so wild man. Was a bad day for kouki builds haha. I'll get a little use out of the cool box for the time being, but a few days ago I realized I played myself lol. Since the cage is a dash dodger, I won't be able to open the glovebox enough to use the cool box once the cage goes in :/ oh well

This is pretty rad. I love the part where it says you brought yourself up to speed on the ‘hero’ 180SX cars. Most people new to this just throw on Type X aero and then like to be spoon fed when it comes to everything else. I see a lot of guys getting hyped over dudes that seem to have substance but in reality are just ‘culture vultures.’ Glad to see you doing things like I (and many others) did when we first got into it!
I think this was the bump I needed to stop lagging on my car. Thanks for the breath of fresh air.

Man, I feel like it's been forever since I've updated this thing. I had to go back and look where I left off haha. I picked the car back up, installed the bumper, yadda yadda. I'll eventually need new kouki bumper brackets and lip to have the front of the car looking good.
I should have my Cusco cage and Kakimoto exhaust both here next week, and I'm super excited about it. I'll be sure to update this thread as soon as they come in.
Speaking of parts, I've picked up a few more things recently.
With the help of Damon, I located a Next Miracle bar. It was listed without the bolts and washers, so I contacted Next Nippon, they were very helpful and sent me all the hardware I needed. I also had to find the rear seatbelt brackets from a 91-93 USDM hatch to mount the bar to the pillars. I then took a dremel and modified my plastic covers to accept the brackets, and was happy with the result.

As you can see from the pictures above, I also got my hands on a nice Bride Brix 1.5 from a local friend of mine at NSPerformance. It's clean, with no rips/tears/burns and only some slight fading (as expected). It also came with the rail, so I couldn't pass it up lol. I'll eventually get a gradient center Brix, which was my original plan, but this will do for now.

Woah it’s been 7 months since my last update. I couldn’t even remember where I left off at and had to go back and look. Well, quite a few things have changed over the months, and I planned on making an update at the beginning of the year. However, my phone broke and I lost all of my research and pictures of my car, along with the documentation for the next few updates. So. Here we are.
My car recently got rear ended, so I’m writing all this out since I have a little more free time right now. The damage wasn’t as bad as it could’ve been, but is still about $3500 worth. So I’m fighting with insurance (again) to cover the costs.
Over the winter I pulled the dash back out and tore most of the interior apart to make a few changes. The first one being a Defi Link Meter II setup with gauges placed in the dash. I measured out the four gauges and drilled through my uncracked dash (yikes). The outcome was very nice, and I always wanted an Itai inspired gauge setup. The sensors were routed through the firewall and the link meter mounted on the dash. While I had the dash out, I went ahead and wired up my Pivot headlight controller, and cut out the cluster bezel to mount it beside the headlight button. It’s a pretty neat device that works correctly every time about 40% of the time haha.
Next was the Cusco Safety21 seven point cage. I was brainstorming how I was going to cleanly cut through the rear seat side plastics so that the rear bars could be mounted to the wheel wells. I ended up first mounting the bars in place without the plastics and drilling the holes in the wheel well to mount it. Once that was done, I made a cardboard template of the base of the bar and measured where the center of the diameter of the bar came down on the template and made a dot. I then bolted that template to the wheel well using the mounting holes I drilled earlier. Then, I rigged a laser pointer to the top of the main hoop where the top of the rear bar was mounted. I aimed the laser at the center dot on the template, so technically, the path of the laser is the same path of the rear bar. I then snapped the side plastic into place and marked where the laser landed on the plastic. I pulled the plastic back off and made sure the laser was still on the template dot, and began drilling through the plastic. I did that for each side. It worked out pretty well, the right side was a bit tricky because it had the cross bar meeting it at the bottom, so I had to dremel out some more material. I don’t know if there is an easier way out there, but I’m happy with the results. (Again, I’m sorry there’s no pictures. If I can recover everything from my old phone, I will update this post to make this easier to comprehend haha)
While I’m talking about interior, I decided to switch to a silver Nardi classic to better suite the gauges. I also added a period correct cell phone holder to the center vent (need to paint it black) and a cellstar assura. I decided to give the red interior a go with some Bride Brix 1.5’s and G-Corporation floor mats. I also bought some genuine red Bride fabric I plan on wrapping the door panels and glovebox with.
On to the outside, I finally installed my old style Kakimoto catback (although now I want a trust dd or perhaps a works9). I have a D-MAX roof wing, Koguchi Power hood, and Hot Road front lip mocked up and prepping for paint.
I decided to dress up my SR a little bit over the winter. I bought a Yashio Factory 3 layer S14 radiator that unfortunately had the upper tank damaged in shipping, so now it’s a nice wall decoration. For now I added an aluminum S14 radiator and dual fan setup. I also got a Yashio Factory water pump pulley, and Greddy power steering and alternator pulleys. I had the valve cover powder coated, added an HKS oil cap, and installed some purple Samco hoses. About halfway through doing everything I came across a forged bottom end red top for a good price, and snatched it up. I changed out the T28 it had for a TD06 20G 8cm housing. It came with an extremely cracked and repaired mid mount manifold that I’ll be swapping for a top mount. I’ll also be adding new staggered HKS cams and valvetrain along with an entire refresh. But that’s a future project.
I’m not really sure where I want to go next with the car. I’ve been dealing with so many other expenses lately, it hasn’t really been a priority. Feel free to give me feedback or ask me questions haha. I’m trying to get motivated to work on it again!!
Here are all the current pictures of the car. Enjoy~

Okay, this isn’t a HUGE update like the last couple have been, but I want to start posting more frequently, even if that means not a lot of progress takes place.
Not too much has changed since the last post. I’ve mocked up the Hot Road front lip, and have been tinkering with the KP hood trying to get it to fit better. So far I’ve had to further notch all four bolt holes on both hood hinges in order to slide the hood forward about a quarter of an inch. I’ve also notched the hood latch in order to allow more adjustment height wise as well. It’s almost there, however I need to relocate my battery because the right front corner of the hood is sitting on my negative post and not sitting flush with the fender/headlight.
I’ve also began ordering parts to repair the rear of my car. So far I’ve acquired a brand new OEM hatchback rear bumper cover, as well as a new OEM kouki lower taillight panel. I also need a new rear bumper support, but I figure I can dig one of those up locally. Then off to the body shop!

SMALL UPDATE:
Continuing with the small weekly updates, I haven’t progressed too much on the 180. I decided to give the early 2000’s sticker stack up a go and designed some period correct stickers to throw on the car. Not sure how I feel about them tbh
https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20190528/31dacb3ec5c16a195eda11a9e885b047.jpg
Other than that, I picked up some Honda hurricane CBR mirrors, but I’m not entirely sure I’ll put them on the car or not. I’ve ordered some base plates from yahoo japan, and am currently waiting for those to arrive before I can fully mock up the hurricanes.
https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20190528/6fb6bdc0709129a9c21f8fd9dca22a3e.jpg
I’ll also get to finishing the red upholstery on the door cards and glove box one of these days, but the car is currently in the body shop having the rear end damage fixed, as well as the KP hood painted (yay).
During this past week I picked up another 180SX that I plan on turning into more of a fun, drift oriented build (still early 2000’s street style of course). It’s looking a little rough right now, but I’ve been making steady progress so far. The car had a completely stripped interior aside from a crack-free dash and door cards. I swapped the dash out and put in a cracked dash in order to preserve the mint dash to eventually swap into the two tone S13 you can see in the background of some of the pictures. I also added a center console and an extra Damsel cluster I had. It needs carpet and more interior plastics, but I’m not all that worried about it at the moment. I’ve just been throwing spare parts I’ve had at it in order to keep costs lower for now. The interior has had the seams completely riveted and has been hand brushed silver, which is... interesting. I’ll be posting progress on the purple car in this thread as well from now on. In the future weeks I’ll be removing the current body kit, and adding aero and start stripping the body for paint ~

I’ve only driven the car once since the stickers were put on, so I can’t really speak for how much of a problem it presents. The police in my area usually don’t go after issues like that, however you do make a valid point, especially with them being over the US driver side of the windshield. If your police are usually that strict, I probably wouldn’t do it, or at least not a full stack. But that’s just me haha

This week has been pretty slow as far as updates on the cars. The white car has been in the body shop getting the lower tail light area and lower left rear quarter panel reconstructed. Should only be another week or so before I have it back with all the extra aero painted as well.
As for the purple car, on my way home from work on Friday my turbo decided it didn’t like the manifold anymore and broke all four rusted inlet studs. I was able to limp it back to the shop and pulled the manifold off. After a quick assessment I decided, since the car will be parked for a week anyways, to go ahead and pull the head off and throw on an Apexi head gasket and some ARP studs. The TD06 will be going on this car, but I need to find a decent condition (I know they’re all cracked) trust top mount manifold, or a reputable company that replicates them. I also need to get everything for the fuel system (pump, rail, injectors, fpr, etc), but since I just bought some wheels for this car, I’m fresh outta dough. So for now, the T25 will be staying on with stock boost. I took a few more pictures of the car as well while I wait for parts to come in ~

Steady progress on both cars over the past couple weeks. My buddy Brent has been reconstructing my left rear quarter panel because we found a botched repair from a previous accident featuring over an inch of filler slapped on the side. He’s also been fixing my rear wheel lips on the quarters since they were cut by the previous owner.
https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20190617/95021f79a2cdca56947054782cce584b.jpg
https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20190617/35b8f57afb152a9d96f463fff6a4bdb1.jpg
Here are a few photos of the wheel lip process. New lips are radiused on the inside to allow proper wheel fitment.
https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20190617/4deec2afcd3e6e42338b2db292c1a29d.jpg

https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20190617/b3a0fedf87cb70d8ffec7cb3349fefc9.jpg
And now onto the quarter panel. Brent has done this twice before, his last time a few years ago on a friends imported 200SX. He starts with a scan of the quarter panel on the right side (right side has no filler so the panel is factory dimensions of course). And loads it into fusion360
https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20190617/eceb812abe6f5982cd05f6df539e4e44.jpg
From there he sections out the quarter panel in order to make a wooden “buck” (mold) to shape the new quarter panel on. With this technology, the new panel will be an exact replica of the factory panel down to a thousandth inch.

https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20190617/1e758528f1330fd22c809c873f395d0a.jpg
He then loads up the dimensions and cuts the buck out with a custom routing machine, and assembles.

https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20190617/0543d801365febb1a237dfa13302788c.jpg
After that, he begins shaping the panel.

Whoever repaired it before must’ve been a sculptor. The entire body line, curvature, creases, everything behind the wheel on the left side was completely filler.
So for the purple car, the OEM Kouki Skirts and valance from the white car are now going on the purple car, along with a 180sx kouki front bumper and wing. Hot Road skirts and valance will be going in place on the white car. I’ve also picked up some Minerva’s for the purple car, and began mocking everything up

Front fenders will be coming off and replaced with some single vent 20mm’s. The hood is also being replaced with a factory metal hood. I still haven’t entirely decided what I want to do with the rear overs yet. Sucks the stock body has been hacked up.
I’ve gotten most of my parts in for the SR rebuild on the purple car, I’m just waiting on a few more items to show up before I can fully reassemble.
Well anyways, that’s about all I have for now. Hoping to update everyone sometime in the next few weeks with some major progress. Cheers~

100%. seeing as though there are thousands of smashed up 240 rear quarters, I feel like there would be a real market for this.
Anyways, great progress! Keep up the good work

They really don't. It's disappointing, as it is a very nice hood.
We had to slot the hinges considerably on the last car we installed a KP hood on.
Either way, car is super cool as always dude!

Use some hood pins and it should help it fit better. Also slot your hood hinges and that will help eliminate the bonnet to bumper gap. I had to slot mine almost completely to make it fit right.

^^^^
You have to slot the hinges considerably to get the gap to close up. Local guy to me even extended the base of the hinge to get more adjustability. You can move the latch down to get it to sit lower.
Looks great though! I am a sucker for white 180's.

I actually did slot my hinges considerably to get it where it is now. I may end up putting some pins in, but I really wanted to have a cleaner look without them. The fitment is suffering though.
I can’t move it too much further forward or else I won’t clear the headlights. In hindsight I should have taken some material off the hood behind the lights to close the bumper gap. Oh well lol. The bumper is sagging a bit as well (even though I have kouki brackets), but once that’s fixed that should close the gap a bit more

So annoying trying to get that bumper to hood gap right, especially with a KP hood. It's a bummer they don't fit better. Looks amazing though! I ran hood pins in addition to the factory latch with mine just for extra security. Much easier to hide them and make the gaps look OK on a black car though.
Sounds super dumb, but I put electrical tape around the latch that attaches to the KP hood, that way when it closed it pulled the hood closer to the front bumper.

I’ll definitely mess around with it some more, and may just go through with pins if it still doesn’t look right
I’ve been extremely sick this past weekend so I didn’t get much of anything done. I gathered up enough strength to go to the shop and loosely mock up the Hot Road sides and rear. Im def digging it.

I’m pretty content with the way the white car is right now, so I’m shifting my focus to one of my other projects. As some of you know, I picked up another 180 back in May. After essentially parting out the aero on it, Grabbing some Minerva’s, adding some interior back, and building the SR for a mild midmount TD06 setup, I’m at this point.

Last weekend I unbolted the over fenders to check out how bad the quarter panel damage was. To my surprise, they were pretty good (aside from the wheel arches of course). Which means I’ll be reverting this car back to stock body. Hopefully in the next couple months or so I’ll send the car off to have the rear wheel arches reconstructed to look 100% factory with a very slight pull. I’ll be putting stock fenders back on the front as well.

This will definitely be another early 2000’s street styled car. Yes, I already have a car setup like that, and now I have a chance to do something different blah blah blah. I like these style cars. I tried the whole hotboi thing with the overs and super wide wheels, but I just don’t feel attached to it. So now that I have that out of the way, I’m back and forth on my parts list. I’ve decided to keep the ganadors on the white car, and put the CBR RR mirrors on this one. Type X kit, N1 vents, TE37/LMGT4/AVS 5 (haven’t decided yet), Garage S hood, brides, stripped rear interior, and red or black paint. Nothing too crazy, but a nice street styled car I can have fun in

Slowly acquiring exterior parts for the purple car. Added some oem kouki tail lights, garnish and Hurricane mirrors. Oem kouki kit, and put some spare vskf’s up front due to clearance issues with new modded knuckles and arms. I’ve also got a front carpet on the way. So many things to still get before I’m satisfied with this car.
Going to be sent off to be reverted back to stock body soon as well. Someone sell me a Garage S hood!! Haha

You’re right, the smartest thing to do is leave the overs on. But mannnnn it really is not my style. I think I’ll leave them on for now while I dial in the engine and interior, and if I haven’t destroyed the car by that point, I’ll revert it back to stock body lol

Maybe some nice 30mm overs would do the trick?
The overs that were on the car looked to be too large, imo of course. That way you can run a nice wheel with almost no camber.

I’ll see what I can do, unfortunately the stock quarters weren’t cut, but instead the arches were banged out to 50mm. I’m not sure if I can easily fix it without cutting and welding them back up

So after thinking long and hard about the purple car, and my end goal with it, I knew deep down the one thing that was bothering me...
So long story short the quarter panels are back to stock metal lol
I called up my buddy Brent for a quarter panel “de-modification” round 2, and so the work began-
First cutting off the hammered to shit arches:
https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20191216/b3bd0eb01f31bc76803f3da52f060a6d.jpg

https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20191216/1967255479881c4f961f212eefbb5cb3.jpg
Then by using a scan of my other car, we were able to locate where the stock arch location should be:
https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20191216/0595ec7fc80c17a6feae156fa4d4eeb5.jpg
Then hand shaping new metal for both sides of the car:

https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20191216/1bc8d273d68c2a23355f20b8c0f02ee4.jpg
To do this the right way, a custom die was created to stamp the body line:

https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20191216/a02a9a641b81361a68a47b32d27f4e40.jpg
New wheel houses were made that sit closer to the outside skin than the stock design, to allow for more wheel clearance

Once the quarter panels were finished up, I began mocking up the car with the new parts I had acquired- Mint condition front fenders, modified kouki bumper, the rest of the kouki kit, Garage S hood, etc

That's some impressive work. Wish I knew a friend who could do that. Had to buy a used QP and most likely going to have to get a shop to replace mine. Would of much preferred to have went this route.
I would think you could maybe replicate S13 fenders and sell them:)

We’re working on a way to produce them that won’t be extremely time consuming and expensive. Mainly looking for an industrial press, that way they can be stamped, and be the same every time. I’ll keep everyone updated!
Also, thanks to everyone for the feedback and support so far!

I'm surprised you didn't replicate the Koguchi style arch with that technique. Can't go wrong with OEM, though.

It?s been a journey with this car. From picking it up last May as a fully stripped, rusted, and fiberglassed missile car with beaten/crushed quarters and overfenders, and cheap replica kit, to where it is now. Chassis completely restored, handshaped OEM spec quarter panels, full front interior, OEM Kouki Kit, etc. The stock SR halfway fell apart the first week I had the car, and since then have done a full HKS built head with a mid mount 20g.
still needs a full interior tune, but happy with the progress so far~
Waiting on the lip and a few other small things to come back from paint.
Also the engine bay could use a good cleanup, and I have to figure out what to do with the valve cover, as far as styling goes (open to suggestions)
But I?m just happy to be enjoying this car now!

Looking at cool 180?s tonight on JY?s stream has inspired me to update this a little bit. Unfortunately I?m still not completely finished with the car (and I don?t think I ever will be) but I?ll post what I have done so far.
I constantly have more parts coming in, so I?m hoping to start updating this thread more regularly.
I?ve been lacking motivation lately. I think it?s because I?m not 100% pleased with how this car is turning out. I think it looks good, but there?s something about it that I think it?s still lacking. Open for suggestions as always!
After I got the car running and driving, I wanted to spruce up the engine bay. I started with doing a complete color change to silver (as all good bays should be haha).

https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20200617/a1c10dd9fb3256b458392b5651348372.jpg
Then after I got that out of the way, I started sourcing parts including:
-KTS Coolant Reservoir
-S14 Koyo radiator
-Kazama Auto oil catch tank
-Billion Power Steering Reservoir
-Greddy Breather Tank
-Greddy pulleys
-Billion Radiator Cap
-Samco lower radiator hose
-Blitz upper radiator hose
-Sard Type R FPR

https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20200617/f12fcb100d4201bfe9a9680d652e3226.jpg
I even swapped out the subframe for a modified one to relocate the rack, and swap the rack out for a freshly rebuilt one. While I was doing that, I decided to also change the old engine mounts out for Kazama Auto ones, and the old trans mount for a Nismo version.
Still waiting on my other valve cover to be painted to throw it on there, but the purple will have to stay for now :/
Also found some Blitz Technospeed Z2?s for really cheap, so I figured I?d pick them up to use as spares
18x9.5 +38? I believe
The interior is currently a mess of wiring. Four Greddy gauges in the dash, one on top near the cluster, and one strapped to the Cusco cage whenever that decides to arrive. As well as wiring in a period correct Carrozzeria, and a few other things.

https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20200617/b40a6174529326a113405a270be9e451.jpg
Along with the gauges, I got another Next Miracle bar for this car, and have a red Brix 1.5 on the way. I?m hoping to get glove box and door panels reupholstered by the end of the week.

Small update:
Got my seat in! Need to stitch up that small tear and give it a good wash. I also need to order a Bride MO rail for it, and throw it in!
https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20200622/26b1bb768682a8720fd972ef5674dc3f.jpg
https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20200622/8908e3caee01fd8cd749ad071f319dff.jpg
In the meantime, I began reupholstering my glovebox. The fabric I have is genuine bride, so it?s extremely thick, and backed with a layer of foam. This made the process extremely difficult because the fabric was so hard to cut/work with. I got it done and it ended up looking pretty good, but I?m afraid I?m going to have to buy some fake fabric to put on the doors. There?s no way that genuine fabric will look good being so thick and hard to work with :(
https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20200622/1ca39639a63265fe6c1c71c8d5e3ea2d.jpg
https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20200622/f68f1bfc28a8bfec00bca29a6ec386ce.jpg
I also ordered some new Attain front hubs since my right side hub is shot. Has about a quarter inch of play top to bottom. With the hubs, I also have a new Cusco front strut brace coming in.
Since I installed those Kazama engine mounts, the front of my valve cover now hits the hood. This is bad because it?s rubbing the paint off the valve cover. I?m not sure what to do yet, I?d hate to have to switch out the engine mounts again, or try to lower my subframe even more.
I don?t know. Small update. This car has been keeping me busy, which is nice. I drove it hard at a local street spot today, and all the temps stayed cool, and the car performed well. The steering feels much better with the new pump, lines, rack, and modded subframe. I?m happy so far

I literally just did my door cards yesterday with real bride fabric (for the the third time). My only advice is to make sure you have two to three people and attempt it. The last two I did by myself I got the fabric perfect and smooth on the card but I kept messing up putting the fabric in the valley because it felt like the material was too thick to tuck in there.
With a second person forcing the fabric down the valley with a small home depot hook pick and me pushing the fabric on the door card we got it to turn out much better but not perfect imo however it will do for me.
Edit: forgot I can share a link, passenger side turned out really good, driver side we kept struggling to tuck in the fabric and keep it stuck on the door card at the same time.

Interior and engine updates

Greetings everyone!
Progress on the black car has been slow, but steady. I am going into way more detail on this car than the white one. I?m currently waiting for my Safety21 cage and do-luck floor bar to arrive, so I figured I?d do an update before I throw those in.
Bare with me as a try to recall everything I?ve done in the past month or so haha
First of all, I?ve been getting the interior situated. Door panels have been recovered in bride fabric, along with glovebox, wires have been ran to all 7 Greddy gauges, I?ve added chrome door handles, alpine 6.5? door speakers, and corresponding tweeters, rear of the interior has been touched up in areas showing light surface rust, Nardi classic 330 added, Pivot shift plate added to radio bezel.

Still needing to install: Pivot shift light, Cusco/Safety21 seven point cage, Do-Luck floor brace, checkered mats, fire extinguisher, Sabelt harness, tow rope.
For the engine, I have installed my freshly vapor honed intake manifold, along with my 800cc Sard injectors and Sard top feed fuel rail. Also installed is the Tomei oil plate feeding my Greddy oil filter relocation block and oil cooler. I have relocated my Billion power steering tank to my core support, and converted in to -AN. I made my own -AN lines to suite the oil, fuel, and power steering setup. The engine area is done for the most part, other than changing the valve cover (in the works), adding heat sleeves on crankcase lines, heater lines, and engine harness, adding a duct to the CAS, and throwing on a different oil cap.

I finally got my front bumper back on! Not before adding some chrome Bomex horns to the front of the car though. Front lip also painted and installed. Blue Raybrig headlamp assemblies were installed as well. Also added some different period-correct stickers to the windshield.

All in all, this car is coming together really well. I?ll post some more pictures after I get the cage and such installed. Also! Minervas are getting sold off as I?m switching to a full Z2 setup. Anyways, thanks for reading!

This thread is the gift that keeps on giving, it's like an S13 greatest hits album, so amazing! Where'd you pick up the chrome door handles, yahooJP?
Also that warehouse space is incredible, but all the stuff scattered around would drive me absolutely insane.

I?m never happy about the maintenance that red seats demand, but it is so worth it! Haha. Cage is going to be black, just like the one in the white car, nothing crazy. I?m not too keen on wild roll cage colors, however I did strongly consider doing a chrome cage lol

Thank man!! I tried looking for the chrome handles on Yahoo Japan for so long, but eventually gave up. I ended up finding the left one in the UK, and the right one in Italy lol. Shipping was pretty outrageous, but I wanted these things so bad to go along with all the other little chrome bits around the car. No regrets!
Having the warehouse space is such a blessing, especially coming from a 10x20 storage unit that I built the white car in. However it does get a little messy at times haha. Perhaps I should set some time aside to organize!

Hello everyone!
So starting where I left off-
I installed the Cusco/Safety21 seven point Cage to the black car, as well as a Do-Luck floor bar:

I have both my Bride Brix 1.5 driver and passenger seats in now. I also have my gauges mounted up (fuel pressure gauge on top of column just temporary for tuning). And I also installed a new walbro 450 pump in the tank. Off to the dyno!

The car made 401whp and 337tq at 1.3 bar on pump gas. It feels really nice! I happened to finish the car in time to head to Florida for a little OSW private day get together with some good friends. The car performed great, but I also got an idea of some things I need to change/fix. Mainly needing new rear coilovers as my current ones are old and stiff. Also new rear brake pads.

There?s nothing wrong with my rear subframe bushings or anything, but I got an extra subframe to fully delete the hicas on the car (currently still has a lockout bar on the back). I started working on that. My plan is to reinforce it, add KTS solid bushings, all new Ikeya arms, new hubs, rotors, axles, etc. but that?ll be a long term project.

I?m happy with how the car sits right now. Both of my cars are running and driving and it?s a good feeling.

Recently I added a Sabelt harness to the black car, as well as 17? Blitz Z2 to the front, and a Greddy oil cap. The white car finally got the Ikeya Formula exhaust installed on it as well.

I want to say thank you to everyone who has taken the time to read through my journey with these two cars. I often forget to update this thread, but every now and again I meet someone in person who talks about seeing my thread on Zilvia and it always brings me back, to update for anyone else who may come across it. Well, that?s all I have for now. I?ll see everyone in another few months :)

Both slabs looking so good, man. Well done!
I love that warehouse space.
It reminds me of back in the day being at my friends old job--also an old warehouse with lots of cars, parts, stuff etc everywhere but it had such a cool vibe.
