And then my odometer stopped working. Does anyone know if S14 odometer maxes out at 400,000?

(Today is a somewhat special day. Much thanks for everyone on Zilvia for all the tips, tricks, advice, and bullshet to make owning this car that much easier and fun. You're some of the most knowledgeable, toxic mofos whose words I have ever read on the internet. And for that, I say thank you.)

What mileage was on the car when you got it?

The odometer is probably still working but is jammed as the mechanics running those dials are very rough. Try hitting the trip reset a few times and letting it snap back on it's own. I've had the reset mechanism jam on me and had to let the odometer roll a few miles before becoming unjammed. Same is probably happening here.

You're a genius. I did that on my way home from work today, and it successfully rolled to 400,001 miles :)

I got the car at around 56,000 miles.

Pretty much, I'm guessing that most of the stuff you don't consider a consumable -- I do. lol... turbos and clutches for sure. A long time ago, I got into the mindset that if I'm going to keep the car forever, then everything is technically a "consumable" at one point or another. There's nothing that will last forever... it'll break... eventually... But when you replace it, it'll last you another bazillion miles, so that's ok.

The only major mechanical part that hasn't been replaced or rebuilt is the transmission... well... partially true. I used to plow though KA transmissions like a mofo when I ran the factory-recommended oil weight of 75w-90. On my final KA trans, I started running 75w-140, and then when I went SR, i stayed with that weight oil and haven't had any issues with my SR transmission since.

4 turbos
5 exhausts
4 transmissions
4 diffs
6 clutch kits
3 flywheels
2 drive shafts
2 front subframes
3 sets of headlights
4 or 5 front bumpers
3 sets of side skirts
3 sets of rear tail lights
2 or 3 front windshields

I think... I could have probably built another car or 2 if the parts went to different chassis lol.

Oh man... last one:

2 sets of springs
2 sets of shocks
6 or 7 sets of coilovers

I dunno... I've got zero ragreets. a long time ago, one of my neighbors told me... you treat your car well, and it will treat you well. So far, that saying has always been true. go figure.

:) It hasn't always been this way tho. I've had phases from usdm stock lowered drift car... beater pos drift car with big body kit... and now it's back to something kinda in between. I just haven't sold it. So far, it's like what... 100% of the time... when I see someone sell their 240, a month later they're like... ahhhh i miss my 240, I'm gonna get another one lol

This is inspiring. How many miles on the SR?

I believe I got the SR at about 235,000 miles... so yeah it's got about 165,000 miles on it now.

people usually sell them cause of hardship tho... like money problems

I never wanted to sell mine, and im hoping to buy another when i get around to it.

g35's with bolt-on's and a couple of upgrades are about the same price as 240's so im realizing that the day of owning an s13 or s14 are almost over for me. it just may not be worth it anymore.

Wise man once said, "A man must sell his body of flesh before he sells his body of steel."

lol jk...

I have a few friends who did it because "I'm done, I'm getting out of the 'game.'" FOOLS, I tell u :keke: See, if you look at it money-wise, then you're right. But time and time again, they get these other cars, and they make these choices that sound good on paper. And in the end, they're like... "fuk... this sucks, I wish I had my 240. I've got some money and a car that is not as fun." And every time, I'm like... ya man I told you to keep it, you dumb mofo... And these are people that had clean as fuark S13s or S14s, and now it's super hard to find one. They would have to start from scratch with some high school guy's abandoned beater project, and that makes it soooo much harder to pull the trigger on.

Mmm... not sure... I drive it practically every day, so it's hard to notice the little changes over the years. I will say though that the predictability of the handling hasn't really changed at all. Once I got to a certain point, it just kinda stayed the same from my point of view

sr20 will last forever as long as you stay the fuck off the limiter, have good ecu tune, and stop trying to run 400+ whp without the supporting mods.

I put well over 100k on mine, it had bolt ons for about 5 yrs, then HKS gt2540, tomei cams, 550cc injectors, z32 maf, apexi head gasket, around 280-300whp at 1bar for another 4 years. Multiple cross country trips, drove from socal to Chicago, then green bay for Final Bout 1, drifted all weekend, then drove home (fuel pump died in NV on the way back but the engine was still fine)

I finally pulled it out for a refresh because oil pressure was starting to get low when hot (10psi or less at idle). Bearings still looked good, compression was ok but not perfect, its to be expected on a high mileage engine. Could have put fresh bearings and a new oil pump and gone on for another decade, but made plans for a full forged build instead. :boink:

I love the character and personalization. Maybe I live for it.

The sr was ahead of it's time fo sho

Sr20 from ~1990 will go 500k miles at 400rwhp (~350ft*lbs of torque on 93 octane), just change the oil pump at ~200k and maybe scrub the cylinders and add new rings around 300k to bring back compression.
haven't got a doubt in my mind

I know someone who swapped their 240 back in 2001 or so, drove that car who knows how many miles, had to be 150k or so, it recently oil pump failure chewed the bearings up. I warned him that would happen. Those pumps don't last forever but everything else seems like it will.

now. whether or not this a feasible, recommendable, logical, sane idea is another story all together.
