thats why u dont use credit cards for car parts only when u really need it.. why buy it if u dont have the $ just wait till you do...
2,000 aint nothing. I am paying back 10K worth of parts... and it should be done soon.

student loans... yea. but i'd never put myself in debt for a car.
My friend drives a hachi he bought on credit about a year ago. He jokes that his car is "Powered by MasterCard"

fuck being in debt on a car, UNLESS it's a brand new car (and even then, that sucks.)
above that, FUCK being in debt for parts for said car. That's just plain stupidity.

I may have to go a bit in to replace some of the parts broken in my crash the other day, but I'll be able to pay it off pretty quickly. It'll only be a couple hundred, anyway.

yeah save up enough until you can afford it, then buy it

u are dumb.
if your going to use a card to buy shit, it would be debit.
be in debt for something that has a return. house, business, land etc etc. if it doesnt have a return its not worth being in debt for.

If i had a credit card i'd probably be in debt due to car parts and other dumb stuff too. Hence the reason why i will not get a credit card until i absolutely need one (i.e. to build credit so i can someday purchase a house). I know myself and what would happen if i had one, so for now i only use a debit card. I only spend what i actually have. Keep things simple.

So yeah, let's see:
Pathfinder -- 11K left
student loans -- 14K left
credit card full of parts -- 5K
So you could say I'm a little in debt.

i took out a 3K loan for my car that i'll pay back in less than a year. being in debt is fine as long as you can handle it. maxing out credit cards for a car is STUPID though. you'll be paying hundreds extra for interest alone.
crioten
10-28-2004, 09:03 AM
when i was 16, and when i first got my car, i borrowed $1,000 from my dad... to cover the rest of the $3,000
i also paid him off in 3 months at no interest...too bad he couldnt help my credit score... :)
i also use my credit card to buy little things, like a shift knob, or something else, like gas...but it gets paid off every month (i really want good credit)
basically, using credit cards is like taking away money from your next months budget, even before you have the money...which you never had in the first place... so what makes you think you can add more stuff on a credit card...?
i still think that people cant wait for anything these days, people are too needy and dont have patience, just the other day in mickiedees, i saw a little fat kid throw a hissy fit... "i want my mcchicken NOW!!!"

Yeah, my CC interest on 5K is about $35 a month and i pay about 150-200 a month. So mine isn't near as bad as a lot of them, think I'm at about 7% or so.

Car debts? none
i bought half my car on CC, and i payed it off 700 bucks a month in 5 months. Then i bought parts, built my computer on the same cc. I just bought a Suburban cash..still paying off the computer and 1k of other bullshit @ 700 a month along with the 2004 Accord i bought for my mom @ 500 a month. Even though i got a lot more credit to tap into, i'm not charging anything on my other cc's until i pay this one off. This leaves me stuck with my crappy t-25 until my computer is payed off.

Don't go into debt for your hobby. Your hobby is the fun stuff you do with your FUN money, not with your LIVING money. FUN money = Hobby money = Money left over AFTER the bills are paid.
Just becareful! You'll end up having to sell your car to get out of debt, which would put you where you don't want to be: without a car.

I've never financed a car or parts. If you need to borrow money, you can't afford it. But, whenever I look in my wallet, and see money in there, I know its time for more mods. I guess the worst thing I've done is sell $1K worth of stocks to help buy a bodykit and paintjob.

You had $1K worth of stock = you got too much money to need to borrow any. For broke people gotta borrow.

You guys are fucking pussies. "Ewww, I've got 15K of debt, poor me..." Well, I've got $120,000 of debt and I don't own anything aside from my little s13. I also don't have a job and I have no income so my debt just keeps growing and growing. :duh: Granted, when I finish med school and residency in the next five years, I should be pulling in some decent loot. ;)

The only time that I was in debt for my car was when I was younger and I got a credit card, charged a part(s), but, I already had the money in my account. It was completely for credit purposes. So if you do that, then it's understandable, but, I wouldn't get in debt over a car, something could come up....... priorities.

I'm in about 12,000 worth of debt for the motor and still have 7,000 to pay off on the car. I have no regrets...and it isnt even driveable.

iono... i just want to pay an advance for school so i would loan a lesser amount of money, if that is debt to you. that's why you see all of my stuff for sale. that includes cars themselves, wheels, and parts.

I must be a dumbass then, cause I owe about $1500 on my car. But, i went in debt cause of two reasons. I was 18 and my parents cosigned, cause I hated the car they gave me and wanted something better and also to build my credit. Now, I bet my credit is better than half of the people on this forum and I am only 20 years old.
MakotoS13
10-30-2004, 11:51 AM
i usually limit my loans to around 3 grand and only when its a big job (finishing the car, new motor, etc etc). if its under two grand i'll save up a few hundred, take out a loan, and pay it off in a few months.
my credit is perfect and i can get a loan for just about any amount in the time it takes to sign for it.

I sold my first 240 to pay for my first year of college (thank you bandwagon buyers!)
Now I've saved enough money to pay off the rest of my college costs and I have enough to build my dream 240. :blah:
No debt though, wooo! I just have to stay away from big brake kits and keep myself from going insano buying suspension pieces. :ugh:
It will be a fun car, and I can rebuild it each winter thanks to Wisconsin putting salt on the streets. YAY! :hsdance:

*dingdingding!!!* ME ME ME ME ME ME!!! I paid for my car, CASH and have paid for EVERY part, again cash money... I weigh responsibility versus "internet drifter god" status and make decisions accordingly. I am not in debt with my car.

hey zk? is that car in your avatar yours? i think i seen it before in the street
Its not exactly my car but almost the same. The one on the avatar is a Japanese RHD Onevia. Mine is a LHD Onevia - same color.

I just don't get it? If you can make a monthly payment, then why not just put that monthly payment in a sock in your underwear drawer. Then, when you have the money for the parts, go buy them.
Why is that a hard concept?
Open a savings account titled "CAR FUND" and put your monthly payment into it. Most companies will allow you to direct depost a portion of your paycheck into a separate account. Then deposit any leftover money at the end of the month into that CAR FUND, too, and you'll get to your dream engine even quicker.

Some people want what they want immediately and are willing to pay financing costs. There is nothing wrong with that.
