so yah I found That I have a massive exhasut leak where manifold meets turbo, and the 2 nuts on the engine side are loose and letting massive exhasut out, is there any way to get to those besides taking the whole manifold off. I prolly could but that stupid gasket thing folds down on one side of the nut, So I have to pry it off to get to the nut.
i got the same problem right now. when my turbo spools it's hella louder. but i would like to fix it without taking the manifold off
nope i would jus take the manifold off and do it, its tight in there i dont think ull be able to get ur hands in there, and u want those bolts tight, good luck.

there is no way to get to those bolts without taking the mani off...just pull the mani off dont forget the oil/coolant lines and the elbow bolts...it wont take that long... when you pull your mani you might want to get a new gasket for it which is only lik 9.99... it makes life easier and save headaches...

by the looks of my manifold i would like new studs and nuts, but deffinitely gonna get new nuts, the 2 bolts in the middle look hard donno if I can get em w a wrench, oh well maybe this will be next weeks project. cant wait to fix the leak an put my nurspec on, so i can actually hear this boost.

What you SHOULD do is go to your local hardware store and get you some locking nuts or some locking washers go home take it all off separate the turbo from teh manifold get some lock tight and a new Gasket if you need one, put everything back together using the lock tight and the locking washers and you will never have that problem again (well at least for a while) I had that problem once and well that is what I did and I have had everything in my S13 for 4 years now and never had a leak. It will save you alot of heartache thoes little metal nut holder things suck and well they break after a few times of taking off and putting on.

if your talking about the 2 bolts in the middle on the BOTTOM, then it would be very very very nice if you had ratchet open end wrenches.. if not an open end will work... a little tedious, but will get the job finished...but yah when you put new nuts make sure they are locking like what everyone sez or else youll be doing this again..

With lock nuts its always been my experience that on the exhaust the plastic insert always melts away and becomes useless. Why not just double nut it?

yah.. theres also some nuts that dont have the plastic thing to lock.. what it uses to lock is misaligned rings on the nut to mold onto the stud... i forgot what they are called.. but a little spot weld wont hurt neither if you already have it out...
i have the stock nut lock shims... with some locking nuts (the ones i mentioned above) locking washers, and locktite... lots of it... and i havent had the problem since....

if there are two bolts next to eachother , you can build a little metal bracket like this. The bolts will prevent eachother from backing out. if you can figure out how to mount it you wont have to weld your bolts shut.
blu808 showed me this trick but i wasnt paying attention to how he was going to mount it.

thats probably the gasket that im talkin about, it folds over this kind of prevents the nuts from moving, but yah i guess if you dont have that gasket then thered be a prob anyhow I never heard of these nuts comin undone, good thing I posted or I would have just tightened them and then put er back on, anyhow the spot weld sounds liek a good idea.
my leak got worse yesterday. so bad that my turbo hardly spools to 3 or 4 pounds until the manifold gets hot. then it start to seal better and i can get 11-12psi. I guess i gotta take teh manifold off. So that piece i drew is a gasket that you can buy? . how can it be a gasket when it doesnt seal anything?

You can tighten them without removing the manifold. This past spring I lost one of those nust and the rest were backed way off (mine had nothing to lock the nuts in). It looked like a giant pain in the ass to remove the manifold, so I just replaced them all and very patiently tightened them up in place. For one of them, you might have to go from the underside and remove the turbo elbow, but I don't remember, I had a leak at every single exhaust connection, so that may have been unrelated. I used flare nuts that have some directional grooves on the bottom side and cranked them down like a mofo, it's worked for me for about 6 months.
