View Full Version : Cheaper Alternative to Volk TE-37?

NorCalS14

I've been loving these rims since they ever came out.

However, the price for each rim is $$$. I know there are other wheels that are this price, but I would like to find a cheaper alternative with the same style. Even if the Volks are worth it, they're still too much money for each rim. I'd rather be spending the extra cash on some performance upgrades.

Are there any cheaper alternatives to these rims? As in the same style?

Thanks in Advance

P.S. Enclosed is a pic of the Volk Racing TE-37 for reference.

I love the gunmetal one since it would match my paintjob. :rawk:

Rota Grids are close but not quite. Nothing will be as good as the true thing, but....beggars cant be choosers :D

Actually, one of my friends bought the Grids for his Civic, kept the Rota center cap off, and bought some Ray's stickers. Looked real, only ppl that knew they weren't was me and him. You could do that, but, he did pay $80 for the stickers. LOL

Where did he get the sticker from, IIRC Volk won't sell replacement stickers, for the fact that cheap asses wanna mislabel things.

They sell volk stickers on ebay...

there aren't really any alternatives to the TE-37s for S14s. The rota grids have high offsets and I think the rims are too narrow for your liking. Either pay the big bucks or look elsewhere..

there are two style of 5zigens that have a similar looking 6 spoke. i'd do lay an eye on those

Or, look for another DT-05r group buy...

Why don't you guys go to walmart and buy some faded glory jeans to match your fake te37s.

Either save up and get the real thing, or find a different wheel you can afford, there is nothing worse than a knockoff product, especially between the rotas and the volks since the rotas don't even come in the same sizes.

MakotoS13
10-25-2004, 12:01 PM

Knock offs are OK, they're wheels, meant to be used and abused. It's the people that sticker enhance fakes that kill me :-/

I beat the sh*t out of mine, use them as vehicle stands too. It's good to know there are stickers out there though b/c mine have some paint missing from slamming into corners...

i understand your feeling of rather spending more on performance and cut down the budget on looks... that's what i think and still do too. I got my 17" TE37 for only 100000yen($877.00 back then, $100 shipping) in Japan including T-01 tires perfect and moderate offset. You can try to get rims in Japan and ship back here. JDM bumpers i only paid for 7000yen(f) 9000yen(r) and 15000yen(valence) like almost 2 years ago. Well worth the money. Just my 2 cents.

240silvia- The tires are 45's, but they are flat in that picture cuz i had just got the wheels and the tires were just for padding during shipping, so that might have to do with how they look, i want to get 50 or 55's.

lilredstiffy- Sorry me and the others with knock offs can't please you. I wish we could all be able to afford the real thing. Im also sorry i am 15 have no current job due to football and dont have the money to spend on real volks that i would probably spend near $1000 for.Oh and by the way, I dont shop at wal-mart so i guess i wont be getting those faded jeans.

"Why don't you guys go to walmart and buy some faded glory jeans to match your fake te37s."

Why dont YOU go buy some affeminate $300 designer jeans and surrender your manhood now.
Knocking wal mart jeans=not cool.. those are the trousers of lumberjacks.

As for wheels, you get what you pay for.. all those cheap wheels are ugly. Then again I wouldnt pay more than $2000 for a set of wheels unless they came with a car.

lilredstiffy
10-25-2004, 11:02 PM
I could care less about the trousers of lumberjacks.

Rota anything on a 240 is weak, they are poor sizes and offsets along with poor quality. My point is it is lame to buy a wheel solely because they 'look' like an expensive bigger/nicer/stronger/lighter wheel, and it doesn't get worse than putting stickers on fakes to make them look real, that is just in poor taste. I think comparing inexpensive wheels to walmart jeans works, both fit shitty, look so-so, questionable quality and are cheap.

You will get what you pay for.

PS: GT-R = GT series Race version. You know. GT, GTS, and now P1 and P2. Just like GTO. Ferrari GTO, Pontiac GTO. Gran Turismo Omologato.

GTR is just a designation that is supposed to inspire feelings of the RACE version. Just like Type-R. R/T. SRT. Just designations to make you feel like the premium you are paying over the base model means anything more than just leather seats and embroidered floor mats.

They've had them on there website and just got them in or recently updated their site to show they have them in stock.

Yep, they're 17x9 +17 all the way around. I'm getting 235-40 next time, 225-45 had too much sidewall flex even from the st-115's. As of right now the car understeers a little but good thing I have stronger brake pads in the rear to help the rear rotate.

As for the weight, they're OK I guess. I measured them to be about 19-20lbs on a analog scale at home, so it's not too accurate.

Oh yeah, I forgot to add that they're made by A-TECH a company owned by Marukanet which also runs Manaray. However, they're made in Taiwan.

Discount also has the MB Motorsports Competition but are only available with a 17x9 +27 offset. I really needed some wheels at the time so I didn't want to wait and find out if they could order them for me. I may pick up a set of those in the future if they can get them in that offset. THey're also known as the A-TECH Final Speed Cast.

Is 235 the widest tire you can run on that wheel? The rear should be able to have a wider tire than a front from what I've noticed with my car.

old_s13
10-27-2004, 12:22 PM
if you cant afford a good quality wheel NEW, then you should consider getting a good quality wheel USED.

people who buy cheap shit make their car look like cheap shit. people who buy cheap shit and put VOLK stickers on it, are absolutely wack and will feel like shit when they get shot down by people who recognize the cheapness. Is it worth the embarassment? Might as well have NO stickers, that way you can just drive your car and not worry about being embarassed for being a CHEAP FUCK.

Buy used wheels, always better if you cant afford new.

Yes, but my car already understeers. Why would I want to put a wider tire in the rear?

If you're expecting a wheel to get damage/scrapped up why not get cheap wheels? Which would you rather replace TE-37's or the MB Motorsports? Btw, the idea of making something look like a more expesive product is stupid but why do you think some companies make a cast and a forged version of the same wheel? I'd say my wheels kinda look like the Gram Light 57s but I do not imply that they're anything but cheap wheels. I would love to get a set of the 57f in 17x9.5 +15 but I cannot afford those.

240Stilo

I was just saying wider in the rear is an option. That's why I ask about the front tire; I'm going to put the widest tire possible on my wheels.
