Ok so I'm out on the road today and pull into a shopping center. BEAR IN MIND I HAVEN'T DRIVEN MY 240 IN ALMOST 9 MONTHS!! and this guy I vaguely know walks up to me and says what's up. I've talked to him once or twice back when I had my 240 on the road. and he knew a bit about cars too. not a ricer in the least. we get on the subject of cars and he asks me if I still have my 240sx. not pressed about it or nothing, just chit-chatting. out of nowhere this kid sitting at a table near where we are talking goes "Man you have a 240?!?! thats cool. I am saving up for one so I can put a skyline motor in it and go drift" So I go "oh skyline motor, cool. not too many of those running around" (sarcastically I might add) and he goes "yeah its a direct swap but its so expensive and hard to get nobody does it, especially the R34" I reply "damn dude. that will be cool as shit. I bet that will drift pretty damn well too" to which he replies "yeah its the perfect car for drifting. thats why anybody who knows anything about drifting drifts a 240sx" so I go "cool man, well I gotta run. see ya later" and he goes "yeah maybe I'll see you drifting at the next drift event. do you know when one is" I go "nah sorry dude"

some kids (maybe 10-13 years old) who live in my apt complex came up to me while i was workin on my car and started askin me questions.
first it was "do you race"
then "do you have nos" cuz of the buttons on my steering wheel
then "how much is nos? like 5000 a bottle?"
then they proceeded to tell me what happens if you have too much nos (f&f recap)
then they asked where i race and they were disappointed when i told them on the track.
then they noticed my car was a nissan and exclaimed "oh! this is a nissan?!?"
then they talked to each other about how skylines "aren't allowed"

A bunch of times people ask me while im getting in my car, or gasing up if i have a SR20, or if i drift.... its like a automatic question when someone looks at my car then looks at me... kinda stupid

ive had some random kids IM me and ask me all these questions about 240's and stuff... Some of these people just got their license and start telling me their plans and stuf... UGH soooo annoying... One kid who was going to buy some used rear rotors i had told me he was gonna come by to pick it up... then he told me the next day, o i paid a shop to change my rear rotors for 150 thx anyways (wow learn how to work on ur car dumb f*$%).. then starts asking me if i race my 240, and if i want to join his racing team that hes making with all 240s...

another kid... was asking me if he should buy this 180sx imported and stuff with a sr20 that was for sale, or buy us 240 and get it swapped with a supra motor cus he can be faster yada yada yada.. he said sr20s are slow... =/ (WTF??). another day he told me he heard a SR20 swap was illegal and i told him yea its not legal, and majority of mods will either not pass visual or emissions test esp in ca....week or two later he tells me he bought a car... his dad bought a 90 240 fast back for $2900 with 190,000 miles, it had a salvage title, and is really f**#ed up, he told me it gets really bad gas milage, and it leaks gas or something cus it goes to 1/2 a tank when it sits there over the weekend... He said his dad could have got a 95 teal 240 for 4000 but since he didnt like the color he didnt buy it... HOW effing stupid is that... 2900 for a 90 240 with a SALVAGE tite! MY GOD... Im pretty sure he nagged and nagged his dad for a 240.. and he just bought the first one he saw to shut him up or something...

What also gets me really pissed off is all these "drifting blogrings" on xanga.. (yes i have a xanga... dont hate cus u proll have one as well! lol..) majority of people, not all in these blogrings are kids that dont have their license yet or even own a car, and talk and act they can drift and know how just cus they watch ID and play the ID arcade game... Just makes me cringe when i see they write in expertize.. "drifting" "clutch kick" "brake drift" "inertial drift" etc etc etc and u see DOB.. 1988 or 1989 even worse 1990

2 weekends ago i was working for HP at frys, and i saw some kid that was proll a freshman in HS that was looking at the printers, he had a yokohama landard, and a drifting shirt taht said always drive it sideways or something... a yokahama hat with a yokohama sticker on the top of the billl... I was about to tell him he was mad jdm tyte but i was working with my manager and didnt want to upset a customer in front of him...

Yeah, I dunno, it's hard to even find a clean, stock 240 nowadays. Seems like everyone is buying them, doing all kinds of modifications, and then realizing they can't deal with a car that ACTUALLY needs to be worked on, so they sell it. Or they are so obsessed with drifting that they end up crashing or beating the cars to shit. It kind of sucks that they are all butchered. I'm safe with the cars I have now, they're too rare to ever be bandwagon cars.

haha I had a similar situation at mason a couple weeks ago. I parked a place I normally don't park b/c of traffic, so when I pulled in I thought I smelled something a little burning (I was at a bottom of a small hill). I opened up my hood, looked at my intake and the temp sensor that was disconnected, then some dude on top of the hill was looking at my engine. Then he approached me, and with one of the most retarded voices you can think of, he was like "aarrr, thas a nice set of mods thar!." Me: "Thanks, but I really didn't do much to it... just a few bolt ons." Him: "uhh aarrrr, "I plan to do the same. I want a sway bar like yours, and cold air intake!" Me: "Uh, that's a strut tower bar. And sure cold air intakes are pretty good I guess...". Then when I walk up the hill I find out he has one of those 94-97 white corollas that looks beat up and ugly as shit. And then he goes to it and is like "Eerrrr, I need a stiffer suspension! It's really soft... I want to hook up my car with aftermarket parts." Then I told him about Robbie's new store and how he can get really cheap prices, also the coilover GB and how he can get K-sports for cheap so he won't have to deal with his blown shocks. EDIT: about the 240sx bandwagon. When I bought mine a year ago I barely even knew was a 240sx was. My dad and bro suggested it to me, and at that time I didn't even know 240sx's existed. At that time I didn't know anything about cars at all (I was driving a beater 92 Civic). After I bought my 240, I became obsessed about 240s and cars in general. I read up on forums and car websites everyday, and still do. After I drove the 240 and felt how much faster than it was than the Civic, became determined to make it faster.

When I had my old beater 240 with just a race clutch (6-pad ACT I think) and my HKS HiPer exhaust (I look back and find it ricey on my sohc). Well, I was cruising out to get ice cream and milkshakes with my girlfriend and we come to a stop light. This dude in a 3000GT VR-4 (really nice one too) pulls up and starts revving at me, I turn to the girlfriend "Want to see a really fast car beat me?" her, "Sure, why not." Light turns green, I blow him away simply by not burning the hell out of my tires and slipping my clutch all night. I'm surprised as hell, but I figure he's just a dumb ass driver and shrug it off. Pulling into the ice cream place, I park and start walking in to get food. The guy in the VR-4 pulls up, parks next to my car and is like, "Holy shit! Do you have the SR? That car is seriously fast!" I say, "No, it's a sohc KA with a blown head gasket." "Yeah right, let me see it!" Look at girlfriend, she's :ugh: "GO ahead, I'll meet you inside." Show him the shit engine, even wipe some of the oil off the side to show him it's crap and say, "AWD should launch better, maybe you need to practice driving?" He says, "Oh, I have new 18's and those tires are damn slippery..." I say, "Yeah, you shouldn't be going nuts then, you know what's wrong, you have a fast car, now learn how to drive it." Then I bought a strawberry shake, it was delicious. :boink:

When I'm out working on my car, I get people walking by asking, "hey man, you want to sell that?", giving me their number and stuff. It's kinda sketchy, I'm always afraid they're going to come back and steal it. Hasn't happened yet, thankfully.

Of course, when I actually did want to sell my old fastback, where were those fools? Oh yeah, they were the ones that offered to pay me in installments. hahahaha. assclowns.

The only real disappointing part of all this "bandwagon" business is simply the high turnover rate of people in the community. So many newbie owners asking endless stupid questions, then either selling the car off because it didn't live up to the hype, or crashing it, or pushing yet another veteran owner over the edge and forcing them to sell their car in frustration, creating another newbie owner, and the cycle continues...

nodoubt, the d is for diesel.. and those cars are known for hitting 1,000,000 kilometers (taxi drivers), i wouldnt be surprised if it takes more abuse from the new owner. as for german cars, i'll definately say that audi/vw's are X'ed out of my book.. i cant stand them. i have friends with brand new audi's and vw's where windows just stopped working, airbags exploding while driving doing NOTHING on the freeway, i mean serious bullshit. my dad has a benzo, he seems to like it but it always has some issue that he's trying to figure out.. its a 500SEL, excessive amounts of engineering goes into those cars which makes them overly complex.

out of all the german cars, m-b, bmw, and porsche are my top favorites.. but i still wouldnt buy them. actually, BMW is my top favorite. but like i said, i dont see a new 7-series on the streets 20 years from now. haha i HIGHLY doubt that i-drive shit will still work -- it'll be obsolete.

because we're not in beaverton, oregon.. we're in california, well.. atleast i am.. and things are different here. actually, its not THAT different.. but the increase in population means we're going to get approached by others more often. now, that isnt necessarily a bad thing, it all depends on how you're approached.

The thing that pisses me off the most is when poeple judge you based on your car, or they dont see you, they see your car. My car right now is a POS, its in pieces until i get it painted and then it all starts getting put back together. Regardless if its done or not, people still need to be up front and approach the person, NOT the car.

I got a good story aobut ignorant asses who just sit and marvel at the power and wonder of a 240.
When i was workin on my car some kid was goin on and on about drifting and how cool it was.
So i said "Lets go Do so drifiting option style." i exclaimed. Sat himn in my car left the door slightly ajared told him it was broken and to hold on. problem is the media says "240sx" and "drift" like they are interchangeable words. So naturally that's all people know about the car. Most people that say something like "You ever drift with it?" or "got an SR?" are simply trying to start idle conversation with me b/c they think we might have similar interests. my favorite thing that has happened in recent memory was when I went to get my oil changed (hey, it needed done and I was on a 3 day weekend out in San Antonio) at a quick change place (first time I have not done it myself in 6 years of owning cars).
I have my Infiniti M30, and it has the infiniti badges gone and I replaced them with the emblems from a Nissan Leopard from Japan (its a little ricey but a guy in New Zealand traded me my badges for his so I said sure). The emblems just show a leopard, I didn't put on any of the nissan lettering.
As soon as I pull in the technician (they were all like 20 year old douche bags) starts blasting wads of cum in his pants as he exclaims "wow this is the silvia varietta! its a coupe version of the 300zx!" His friend turned to me and said "you'll have to excuse him, he is the biggest nissan freak in america! He knows all about every nissan car ever made, and all about their engines and stuff. We call him the Nissan God!"
And I said "no, the silvia varietta was a version of the s15 that was a convertible, they were never brought to the US. This is a Nissan Leopard in Japan, known as an M30 here in the US. Its not based on a 300zx at all, but it has the same engine as the naturally aspirated z31's."
And he is like "yeah, of course. These things are awesome, are you gonna swap an sr20det?"
At this point in time I wanted to go back and wait for the Nissan God to finish changing my oil, but as I see him dumping power steering fluid in the resevoir instead of ATF (I asked him about it and he said ATF and power steering fluid are, and I quote "about the same thing so it doesn't matter" when I told him to drain the PS fluid out and replace it with atf) I decide I should bear with it and make sure he doesn't fuck up my car, so to be politce, I said "no, it has a 3.0 V6 from the factory, I don't think I'd swap in a smaller engine. Its a heavy car, it needs some torque."
and he replies "No way man these things are SOOO light, it hardly takes any power and they can beat just about anything!"
And I said "I don't know about you but I don't think that 3400 lbs is light for a 2 door."
And he said "yeah but these things had such a big engine stock that they were really fast."
And I said "they made 160 hp and 180 ft lbs of torque. I'd like to swap in another engine but I'll probably just turbo this one. If I did swap I might try to swap to a dohc engine from a Z32."
And he said "no those engines suck. why would you want to do that?"
And I said "well they are really reliable and they make around 220 hp compared to my 160, and I can get them in junkyards for a couple hundred bucks with a 5 speed transmission."
And he said "yeah, but EVERYONE has one of those engines, they are so normal. And why would you want to swap to a 5 sp?"
And I said "well, a 5 sp is better for the kind of driving that I do, I like to have control over the car. Besides, that auto isn't in the best shape."
And he said "well you wouldn't want one of those 300zx engines, they are so common, no one would even notice."
And I said "what do you think I should run then."
and he said "315 hp, 430 ft lbs of torque."
And I said "what are you talking about?"
and he said "they make this big nissan v8's that come in the titan and they bolt into any nissan chassis."
and I said "I don't think a v8 would bolt into an already cramped v6 engine bay, and I've seen the massive transmission they use and I'm positive it wouldn't fit in my car, and those are brand new so they would probably cost around 6 times what I paid for the car."

andrave's story is why I hate going in for any service. Even if I can't do it my self(like an alignment). My girlfriend yells at me for not going almost like I'm not going to the doctor. every time I go in a place my car becomes a spectical. The last alignment I had I look out the window into the shop and half the workers are under my car looking at the coilovers and ajustable links. I go upto the window and stare at them and one of them sees me and they scurry like rats. The dealer is not much better. I've been having trouble with my Evap system. I went in when my Service Consultant was out. I got another guy that tried to sell me brakes, stock tires and a bunch of other crap after I tuned out. Then the Service Manager comes in and is like "that thing got a SR20 in it?" I got so pissed off I walked out and told them to have my Consultant call me when he got back in. It's been a month and I'm just now getting calmed down over it.

I for one had a 00 Integra GSR didnt want the "R" 2years ago I started my SCCA career and I finished in 9th for my class (STS) and 15th for rookie. I left for Iraq and my wife traded in the car for her truck... youd think Id be pissed but I wasnt the damn car started too fall apart. So when I got back I decided to get a 240 I thought Id be ready to learn how to drive an FR I never had one before and said to hell with it and thats why I own one that and the fact it was easier to work on and is cheaper.
