Don't flame me for the auto part....I bought the car a while ago (wow,it has been a while.) and seeing as it was my first car my parents made me go auto. Anyway that tranmission is dead as it gets (DONOT DO THE 'PSEUDOSHIFT KIT' BULLSHIT,FOR THOSE WITH AUTOS). I bought a 1990 Miata and thats my daily driver, and I'm going to just replace the auto in the 240 b/c I could not find anybody willing to do the 5 speed swap, and thats how I've had the car for a long time now, with lots of awsome memories. Anyway,I'm wondering how much it should cost to get that sucker replaced? Fully installed. I know what my normal mechanic said, and it wasn't cheap at all ($1400 for a new one installed.) .

Thanks guys.

P.S. I haven't posted in a while,but I know you assholes didn't miss me anyway:fawk:

The 240 when fixed will be my 'hot date' car,and the miata is currently my 'drivethefuckoutofit' car.

EDIT:Like my neighbor said though, "you can't complain, your 18 and have two red japanese sports cars..." so its all good :)

$1400???in that case you should just drop a little more money on a sr swap and install it yourself

It shouldn't be too hard to find a used automatic transmission with everyone doing 5 speed swaps (myself included...eventually). I've been trying to see what people are selling their auto trannys for so I can see about what I can (or can't) expect to get for it when I rip mine out, and from what I've seen they've been pretty cheap ... far cheaper then what a brand new transmission would cost you. There are some on ebay now for $100 or less. Other then that the rest is just labor costs which depends on where you go, I guess.

Swapping an auto in is a 6hr job, max.

It's a pain in the ass, b/c the auto is heavy...but not bad for 2 people with an afternoon to kill.

I've sold both my auto tranny's in the past for $100 each, and swapped one into a car for a measly extra $100. I'd never do it again for less than $300...

Anyway, find a used one, swap it in over the course of a weekend...easy stuff.

^^^ Looks like $400 is about the avg. junk yard rate...

You can buy my auto tranny for cheap, just pulled it out 2 weeks ago. Has 112k.

But yeah its bloody huge, especially when next to a M/T.
